  1. I don't really care about stuff that isn't actually fun to play. I don't want things just to have them. That said, I'd definitely put NWC (gold or grey, hell I aint picky!) at the top of my list. Besides the historical value, NWC actually is kind of fun to mess around with a couple buddies on. Get some beers and some 80s music and have yourself a retro gaming contest. Out of all the really pricey gaming stuff out there, it's probably the one I would assign the most value to.
  2. I claim Planet Astrosmash in the name of the Earth. Isn't that lovely? Hmm?
  3. SteamOS is built on Debian so I would assume any Debian-built emulators would work. Does it have access to Debian's repos? (have not used it obviously...)
  4. Asteroids DUH NUH DUH NUH DUH NUH DUH NUH PEW PEW PEW
  5. And in the most glorious fashion possible, Sony enacted a revenge so sweet that Nintendo will probably never recover from it. At least they're, you know, cult favorites now.
  6. One of these days, I want to get one of those flat panel displays for the IIc. I don't know how practical it is but man do they look cool. Like crappy 80s sci fi movie cool
  7. Oh Apple, if only your computers were still socketed for easy modification *shakes fist* I don't remember what I did but back when I was a kid messing around on the family's 486 I managed to remove the computer's ability to recognize the CD drive. I freaked out and was trying to call my Uncle to figure out how to fix it before my dad came home and beat my ass. I ~think~ I fixed it on my own but it has been so long....that scared me away from fiddling around with my computer for a long time. These days it is just an issue of being worried about still being able to find parts, etc. I'm on a couple vintage Apple forums now so I at least know where to go if I need some stuff but I figure it's only a matter of time before I have to move to pure emulation
  8. That mini-arcade cabinet looks awesome. Thanks for sharing!
  9. I vastly prefer GoG as they sell all their games DRM free and you can archive the installers locally if you want (you can also download anytime from your account on the website). I do keep Steam though and some of the ridiculous sales they've had have given me tons of games to play. I mostly only game on PC these days (well my Mac but w/e) because all of the old consoles I would care to play I can emulate perfectly. Digital is the way of the future, which Microsoft correctly anticipated with Xbox One even if they didn't market it very well, so the lack of physical media doesn't concern me. I suppose some day these services might die and I'll lose all my games (or w/e) but for now I am happy to trust in Steam. I am a cheap bastard when it comes to computer games though. I don't remember the last time I bought one at full price. There are to many great games out there from the last 30 years that are dirt cheap. As long as you don't care about playing the latest and greatest stuff, you can save a ton of money buying your games once they get discounted.
  10. Depends on your model. The old phat units are very easy. Years ago, I used this guide to do it myself http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2003/11/ps2-repair-guide/1/ Probably YouTube videos or something these days.
  11. This was the FPS era for me. Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, Wolfenstein 3D. There were some damn good shooters but really the Apogee label was all I needed. I think I liked all their games. I really like Raptor: Call of Shadows (top down shooter, you spend money in between levels to upgrade your plane with better weapons) and Zone 66 (4-directional top down shooter) If you like point-and-clicks check out Day of the Tentacle, the Tex Murphy games (Martian Memorandum was my favorite) and Goblin Quest III. edit: Also I played the hell out of D&D games in this era. The Eye of the Beholder series especially. Maybe nothing special now but for a kid who didn't get to play actual tabletop enough those games were better than drugs
  12. I was hoping you had something older =( Good luck with the sale. It is a good machine for HTPC and emulators
  13. In the words of the angry video game nerd "Didn't someone test this shitty game out?" Seriously, this doesn't say much for their quality control. If it sucks don't sell it anyway. Unless you want bad PR.
  14. I really like the visual style but I am somewhat hesitant about the gameplay. I think those guys who made Rise of had the right idea by setting it on Cybertron and having Gears of War style play. The dark/alien style aspect wasn't really my bag but the tone was right. For me Transformers fighting is big gun battles. Prime and Megs going hand to hand was not a common occurrence, despite their fight being one of the most memorable things in franchise history. This will be a definite buy from me but I only have modest expectations. I HOPE THEY MAKE A BEAST WARS GAME. OPTIMUS PRIMAL MAXIMIZE
  15. I really liked the FF7 trailer. I will be disappointed if it is essentially a straight port with updated graphics. I hope they change the fuck out of it. New events, different battle system, etc. I have the original memorized so I am totally down for something fresh. The trailer makes me feel like they are going to focus on the darker, dystopian aspects of the FF7 universe and that makes me pretty happy. I also got a bit of a Parasite Eve vibe from the music. I think this game is going to rock.
  16. Yeah I had to get off that train fast LOL. I thought Skylanders was awesome but holy shit I don't have space to put this stuff. I ended up buying a couple of the cases and now they're just piled up somewhere. Sledgehammer monster with a top hat was great though. I really ~really~ want Lego Dimensions. Legos are my favorite toys ever. I collect the pirate ships whenever they come out now.
  17. I eventually got tired of the technical glitches and stuff running BC on my PS3 and picked up a PS2 Slim to replace my phat PS2. Highly recommend the PS2 Slim. It don't take up much space, runs great, and doesn't really have any technical hiccups.
  18. Well, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. Came with the NES obviously. Mega Man X for SNES is the first game that I saved up for and bought on my own.
  19. I haven't played through the more recent titles in either series but Gears 1 had an amazing campaign. Dark, horrific, and challenging. It's one of the only games I've beaten on the hardest difficulty. Buddy of mine and I just kept playing through it because we loved it so much. It is an amazing game.
  20. Love this series. Game is at the top of my list for console titles I still want to buy. Don't think the series will ever top The Second Story You know there is a Game Boy game sequel to TSS that we never got. I wonder how that never got a fan translation patch
  21. I cuss like a sailor. I never bothered with kids or a family either. Maybe there's just something about us no-kid types LOL I'm not unsympathetic to VectorGamer's position though. To many reviewers want to try and capture the success of early YouTube reviewers like AVGN so they think incessant cursing will do that but the truth is they are neither funny nor informative. Personally my favorite game videos are silent speed-runs. You get the game for what it is, not how someone is trying to interpret it for you.
  22. PC Gaming for me. I just had to much ~stuff~ Consoles and games everywhere, 95% of which I could play on my PC. I don't have anything against consoles and still like them quite a bit (and there are a bunch of games console only that I like) but most of the time I'm messing around on my computer anyway.
  23. Used game place near my house had a working ROB a couple years ago. I went with an SMS and a stack of games instead because I didn't want a gimmick. Yeah SMS is a great console, but I could have had a Robotic Operating Buddy instead of no friends
  24. PC Version for both. Why you ask? Level editors. Holy shit were those fun to dick around with as a kid. I had a buddy who built his neighborhood in Doom. The first level was his house, it was pretty awesome.
