  1. I keep telling myself I'll do 32X but I haven't actually bought games for it since I bought the 32X and that was a couple years ago. Not that I'm anywhere close since I'm still under 50 titles but lately I've been dreaming of a complete collection of licensed NES carts. I'm starting small, looking at collecting all of Sunsoft's games since I really like their music. Then maybe all of the early games that had the sprite-based labels and the icons telling you what accessory they were compatible with.
  2. Bought a game from NathanofLight. He was very friendly and shipped quickly. I would gladly do business with him again.
  3. In addition to some badly needed dust covers for my NES library I picked up a stack of (mostly common) games that I didn't have Captain Skyhawk Jaws Little Nemo: The Dream Master Castlevania Punch-Out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game 3-D World Runner Snake Rattle n' Roll Fester's Quest The seller combined shipping on everything for a pretty nice discount too. Of course I bought so many games that I don't think I'll have enough dust covers for my current collection now but oh well
  4. The 32X is actually a surprisingly robust little machine with a quite small, but surprisingly decent library with most games ranging from mediocre (at worst) to pretty good. I'd say it was more a series of poor management decisions than quality of the product that doomed the 32X. And I still like the concept of feasible hardware upgrades for existing platforms. Nintendo ended up being able to pull it off with the expansion pack and that was pretty cool. By the way, CD 32X Night Trap is Best Trap
  5. Oh yeah I always get deals on NES games that "don't work" at the local used everything store. Once I clean the contacts they work good as new
  6. Well I didn't think the title of the page was that accurate but there was some cool stuff on there to be sure. One of these days, I'm going to take a stab at collecting the virtual boy. ...at least that is what I always tell myself
  7. Congrats. The 5200 would be a steal but the controllers for that are a little dicey. The 2600 is terrific. Be prepared if you haven't played games that old before though, 2600 games are a lot different than newer games and sometimes you pretty much need to read the manual to get a game set up properly
  8. I can kind of see your point but IIRC the levels in the Bionic Commando games are similar. At the very least I remember the first level being the same but to be honest I haven't played NES Bionic Commando in at least 15 years. The only one I own is the Game Boy version, which I bought from a friend after I played it and fell in love with its pseudo-RPG mechanics.
  9. Awww, I actually like Gyromite. Though when I was a kid, I didn't know there was a robot and I didn't have any friends old enough to set me straight. My friends and I used to think the second player was meant to be the pillars and you were supposed to trade off for 2P mode. We used to delight in trying to squish each other. Speaking of, the other day I got a friend who had not heard of Gyromite to play it. He didn't see me sneak the other controller and didn't realize I was controlling the pillars for about 9 levels. It was pretty hilarious
  10. ROB actually receives information via light flashes from the TV and interacts with the games that way. Both games have separate attachments you need to set ROB up with. You can probably find some videos on YouTube of how he works. IIRC Stack Up came with attachments in the box but Gyromite was a pack-in with the unit and the parts came with it if you bought it all boxed.
  11. Bionic Commando on the GB is AMAZING, much better than the NES version.
  12. Haha nice. I love Doom I used to have Doom (SNES) Doom (Game Boy Advance) Doom (Xbox Live Arcade) Doom (32X) Ultimate Doom (Windows 95 CD release) Doom Trilogy (3-disc collector's set) I've since lost my Ultimate Doom CD (it was damaged due to carelessness) and my Gameboy Advance Doom (no idea what happened to it, but I used to bring it with me to High School so probably lost it there) My trilogy case is around here somewhere but I'm not sure where off the top of my head. I still think Doom is one of the best video games of all time.
  13. Hey, the NES may have ports of arcade classics that are closer to the originals than the 2600, but who doesn't love studying a 2600 manual for three hours just to figure out how to set up a game to play it? <3 needlessly complex 2600 games
  14. I agree with this 100% The only cart-based system I try to collect CiB is my Genesis. If I had a Master System, I'd probably treat it the same way. I do like dust covers for my NES and SNES games though (why did Nintendo not make these for the N64???) and I will occassionally buy them on eBay when I need more.
  15. I dunno. Ecco the Dolphin's Sega CD ports and Sonic CD just have luscious music. Although there were plenty of carts that had pretty good music too. Speaking of the Genesis's sound, I know it's goofy but I really like the front stereo port on the original model. I actually run a wire from it to my TV for stereo sound instead of using a headset (err, only mono sound from the back port ???) but I think it was a nifty idea.
  16. Heck the main reason I'm a fan of DOSBox is that I can have all my games on a single machine...I've got a lot of old games and I couldn't fit them all on an actual 486. It would be fun to have one to tinker around with, something with Windows 3.1 for old times sake. My first computer was a Packard Bell that came installed with Packard Bell Navigator. I'd probably pay to have that whole original setup. It was slick. The machine, monitor, speakers, and a whole suite of software including some pretty fun games.
  17. A couple of those tapes were for Nintendo Power subscribers. I have the Star Fox 64 and the Donkey Kong Country (from the SNES days) ones, both of which came from my NP subscription. The Star Fox 64 one is hilariously bad.
  18. I really need to pick a Game Gear up. I kind of want to get a Sega Nomad first though. It was starting an Atari collection that put a stop to my Sega collecting Vampire: Master of Darkness is a pretty good Castlevania esque platformer/adventure game.
  19. I've just got two 2600s, an Atari Jr. and a Light Sixer I started with the Atari Jr. and after Idecided the 2600 was worth my money, I went out to find an affordable 6-switch. Now the Atari Jr.is just part of the collection. I can see the appeal of collecting all the 2600 variants (there's a bunch of 'em) but man oh man @ the hardware some of you guys have. That's a lot of extra systems
  20. I don't know if I'm mad or just completely uncaring. I've always felt that the PS3 was overpriced and that every step of the way Sony has made some horrifc missteps. They completely stripped the machine of features in order to market it and I can't help but feel that its principle goal was to beat HD-DVD as the high definition media format. Still, the machine itself can put out some impressive visuals and the fact that they've rounded up some developers to make some pretty great exclusives means that I do grudgingly support the system. After all, it should be about the games and not the hardware...at least that is how I feel about it. What happened to Sony was bad. Really bad. Whether it came as a result of corporate arrogance or because they were just an unfortunate victim, I cannot say. I do think some of the steps they are taking from the fiasco are good ones. I've already cancelled my credit card and I'll probably be looking into the year of identity protection when that begins to circulate. I'm not the customer that Sony has to appease though. I'm a big enough game junkie that I round up all the systems. Sony really needs to worry about the people who just like to have one system and like to play online with it. What are those people doing right now? Are they going to come back when Sony finally gets the PSN restored? Sony also is going to have a trust issue with consumers from now on. Given that allegedly, the PSN wasn't secured very well, what can Sony possibly do to restore consumer confidence?
  21. Two Worlds is kind of a joke but it is probably a good bargain bin game. I wouldn't be as annoyed with it if I hadn't paid full price for it I suspect. The interface is awful on the 360 though. It handles much better on the PC. One thing not to miss is the soundtrack for the game though. Two Worlds actually has a beautiful soundtrack that deserves to be in a better game.
  22. Castlevania II is actually my favorite as well. I love the music and gameplay. Post SOTN games are ok but in general I prefer the classic gameplay. I really, really like Harmony of Dissonance though. Great game to play with friends.
  23. I found Dragon Warrior III (NES) today. Was a very unexpected and pleasing find.
