I've never encountered disc rot. Hope I never do as I have a fair bit of PSX, PS2 and Saturn stuff in my collection. I actually only started collecting disc based games again this year. I'd kinda gone off the whole moving parts console idea but the games are cheaper and I figured I'd build collections before prices get out of hand like they have for older systems.

Well when you put it that way... haha.

I need a copy of that game. I’d always avoided it because I’d assumed it was the same game as the MD version which I didn’t really like. Apparently it’s different though and much better. Shame it’s a bit pricey now.

Lol that's the second time I've been quoted and the Terminator CD soundtrack was mentioned today - the first was by the composer himself, haha. I should add that Emulation Station is fantastic on Pi but I haven't and I'm not going to put it on the mini. I'll stick with stock menu which means MD games only
-
Tempted to mod mine but those Retroarch and Boot Menu icons trigger my OCD. I want it to look 100% stock and just add the games I own. Guess I'll leave it untouched and continue Sega gaming on my Blast 16 powered MegaPi
-
Is it wrong that I kinda want one as a neat looking little PC? I mean it's not THAT pricey if you compare it to similar spec'd PCs and it looks a lot cooler. Weird way of marketing it though...

It is REALLY good. I literally prefer it to the real thing.

The funny thing is, the C64 'Maxi' has made me want to mess around with my Mini more as the manual is chocka with info and I'm guessing a whole heap of things work on the Mini too. I might set it up as my 'gaming' C64 on the other telly and use the Maxi for development/making music etc. For most games you don't need the keyboard and for the games that just use one or two keys, you can assign those to the joystick - I honestly had no idea the Mini was that versatile. Of course the working keyboard does mean the Maxi is that much better. I'm in love with mine. I just proposed to it and we're going to get married in the spring.

Anyone have an Oculus Quest? I need friends :P

Awesome! They're a great unit. I use mine for watching movies, exercising and the odd bit of gaming, haha. Sadly I have an ATI GFX card so the Rift Link cable doesn't work for me... yet. But hey, the reason I bought it was for the wireless experience anyway - Link hadn't even been thought about then (I'm a day one buyer). If you want to see what the Quest can REALLY do, check out Red Matter. It's pretty darned stunning. -

I guess I'll remain friendless in VR as I am in real life -
Awesome, thanks! More to these devices than I thought, haha.

Yes, I believe so. As for the Speccy Next, I have been watching that but is the thing ever going to come out? It looks awesome though. I'd also be keen for a remade original machine - same approach as The C64.
-
You can but it's a bit of a hassle. You need to make files etc I believe. I haven't looked into it fully as the multi file games I wanted to play are all available on either d81 or .crt.

Yeah, I actually got mine on Thursday! I'm loving it, though it's not 100% 1541 compatible as I've found gamnes with custom loaders which don't run. Easy fix though - I just hunted down EasyFlash conversions. In reality you can't beat real hardware but for my situation, this is much more ideal. Emulation is great and the keyboard, whilst not mechanical, still feels nice and old school - it does make more hollow sounds than the original, for obvious reasons, but it actually doesn't feel too bad. Keycaps look great to me - time will tell. I do have a full set of og keycaps - I wonder if they'll fit? Anyway, I'd rate it a solid 8/10. It looks the part, it's much easier to set up and use than a real C64 and overall it's a pretty authentic experience. Oh and the joystick is sooooo much better than the older model, but the buttons are annoying. It's so easy to hit one by mistake (those stupid triangle ones) and the front four all do the same thing. It'd be nice to be able to map them for different games etc. - but in saying that, perhaps reaching out to hit the space bar to activate boost in Turbo Out Run is part of the nostalgia Oh, one other negative - the Thalamus games have gapped it, which really sucks. Easy enough to load from USB, but still. Anyway, they fixed the issues people had with the C64 Mini, so it wouldn't surprise me if they released another version of this, perhaps a C64C with mechanical keyboard? Being the C64 whore I am, I'd buy it instantly! Now I'm hoping for a Speccy and Amiga reboot, haha. EDIT: Thanks for the heads up on the Mech Board. I wonder if there will be some way to hook that up to TheC64? No doubt someone will work it out and that would be a worthwhile mod! ANOTHER EDIT: So no, I won't be able to use my keycaps but you can make it run in 1541 compatibility mode by using CJM files. Bit of a pain but hey, if it works...

Do you plan on getting both systems next year
MantaNZ replied to Jim Pez's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I'll definitely be picking up an Amico for the quick fixes/family fun and Xbox Series X for the in depth AAA titles - Hellblade II looks stupidly real!!! I'm more excited about Amico though as it's something new. Not often we get to see a new console from a new company release - unlike in the '90s where it seemed to happen every week, haha. Don't know much about PS5 yet but I get the feeling a lot of the exclusives will be Xbox this time around. -
I sold my NOS C64 a couple of years back and I also had another mint in box one I sold - I was getting wary of the ancient hardware so this thing is perfect for me (I'm not an original hardware or nothing guy - if it's original and it provides a good experience I'm in). The release has been delayed twice here in NZ so I'm hoping my pre-order gets filled this Friday! I have the mini too and it's pretty cool but the joystick SUCKS and the virtual keyboard is annoying.

As the title says, if you have one - add me! I'm mantanz (all lower case) on there too Keen to hear what people are playing on it too. I tend to mainly play BoxVR and Thrill of the FIght to help lose some weight
-
I really love the design of it and if the 100% backwards compatibility rumours are true I'm all in - only I recently traded in all my 360 games. Doh! Oh well, I still have my og Xbox games to play on it I wonder if I'll be able to download the 200 or so digital games I own on 360? Oh and that Hellblade II trailer - OMFG!!! Guess I'm buying an an Amico AND an Xbox next year. I hope the PS5 doesn't look equally amazing or I'll be very poor...

You're only allowed 10 games... what are they?

Have to agree about Speedball. It's great on Mega Drive but the Amiga original is the best. Have you played it on C64? I need to try it. I love the original on C64 and Master System -

Yeah I get what you mean about the controls. The original is nigh on arcade perfect. CE (I have the Japanese one) is twitchier but nothing compared to the Dreamcast version! Haha. I actually love the Xbox 360 version but yeah, nothing comes close to Sega Rally IMO. Unless of course it's realism you're after. I've been playing WRC 7 on PC. Loads of fun. Still love Colin McRae 1&2 also. I haven't seen all T4K has to offer (high score of around 2.2 million) but apart from an extra power up or two it's more of the same, including bonus stages. Soundtrack is even the same though it's definitely been remastered or at the very least is the version from the T2K CD soundtrack. It sounds great. There's a lot on screen which can make it tough but you soon get used to it. I love that Minterness. -

Nice, with ya on Sega Rally, Outrun 2 and Tempest 2K. Have those as well as Sonic 2 and Daytona (both versions) in my collection. Why do you prefer the original Daytona to the Champion Circuit edition? And have you played Tempest 4000? T2K was my fave shooter even after T4K was released but the more I’ve played it the better I’ve got and I think it ever so slightly edges out T2K now - definitely much smoother! -

We have very similar game tastes! Damn, I forgot to add an NFL game, though I did consider Madden '92. I have the lot of them on Mega Drive, haha. -
Bin it and get the official Sega Genesis Mini Sorry, I couldn't help it.
