How reliable is Digital Press as a price guide?
TI99Kitty replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I wouldn't depend on DP's rarity/price guide too much. After all, they've still got "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith" listed as "Rumor Mill." Guess that means the copy I bought in 2007 with two controllers must be worth a fortune! ^_~ ETA: It's still a decent place to start, but as others have said, looking at what similar items have sold for on eBay is probably going to be a better indicator of what people are willing to pay for it. -
Games you loved back in the day, but now suck.
TI99Kitty replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Car Wars (TI-99/4A) - I didn't "love" it, back then, but I played it a lot. Now... Meh. Donkey Kong (ColecoVision) - These days, I usually wind up getting bored with it and turn it off after 5 minutes or so. Donkey Kong Junior (CV) - Used to love playing this more than the original DK, nowadays, I turn it off after the second or third screen (if I even fire it up at all). The Sims / The Sims 2 (Windows) - Quite possibly my favorite games ever. I used to download all kinds of custom content, and I loved playing God with my sims. Now... Meh, I can't even be bothered to turn either one on. Of course, I think EA Games' mismanagement of the Sims franchise had a lot to do with that (including installing Sony's rootkits with the games to prevent people pirating them, which wound up having the opposite effect). -
Well, I posted pics of my current hardware in another thread, but I'll play here, too: Used to own: • TI-99/4A (with speech, joysticks and 1 cassette drive) • Atari 800 (no idea if it worked, bought it at Goodwill) • Nintendo Entertainment System (with Zapper and NES Advantage) • Commodore 64C (with disk drive, monitor and printer) • Game Boy Color (with some MadCatz accessories and a Pokémon carrying case) • Sony PS One • Sony PlayStation 2 (big, top-loading console, bought at a pawn shop) Currently own: • Sony PS2 Slim (with 2 wired guitar controllers, 1 wireless guitar, wireless drum kit and USB microphone) • Game Boy Advance (with no battery door, lol) • TI-99/4A (with speech, PEB ((with memory expansion, RS232 and disk drive w/disk controller)), modem, joysticks, printer and 2 cassette drives) • ColecoVision (with Expansion #1 and Roller Controller) • Intellivision (with IntelliVoice) • Sony PlayStation model 5501 (with multitap) • Sega Dreamcast (with fishing controller and light gun) • Nintendo Entertainment System • Sega Genesis Not part of my "collection," but I still own them (for now) • Sega Dreamcast, sports edition (black, with "Sega Sports" logo on lid and controller) • Nintendo 64 Not as impressive as other lists, but I use each and every one of the systems in my "collection," and I only "collect" the ones I intend to use. ^_^

I have a Nintendo 64 that I was going to sell after I tested it (needed an AC adapter and a game to test it), as the games I'm interested in are also on the PlayStation and the Dreamcast (or, in the case of "Donkey Kong" and "Donkey Kong Junior," on the CV, or "Super Mario Brothers" on the NES). However, once I tested it I found that the power switch is a little tricky, so I decided to hang on to it, rather than palm it off on someone else -- at least until I find some way to fix it. Unfortunately, my table is full, so in order to make room for it while I tested it, I had to move the PlayStation on top of the PS2. I may have to wind up putting the Intellivision back underneath the table, if I'm going to keep the N64 longer than just temporarily. Shame, because I liked having all my consoles where I could see them easily when I use them (and since I keep them covered with decorative towels when they're not in use, to protect them from dust, it means I'll have to find another decorative towel just for the Intellivision). I figure, the patch cord for the cassette drive has two set of leads, it would be a shame not to use them. ^_~ Okay, I got the RCA cassette player before I got the huge lot that included the TI recorder, and I've got no other use for the RCA anyway, why not hook them both up? Thanks. I had to do a lot of eBaying to get all that, and I wound up having to get the CV from 4jay's, since the two CV's I'd gotten before (one from Amazon and one from eBay) had "issues."

I know, I know, I used the flash on my camera. I work nights, so my apartment is set up to keep as much light out as possible during the day. Plus, to save energy, I use low-watt light bulbs. It's easy on my eyes, but not so good for picture-taking. Anyway, this is the most current picture of my game consoles (not including the TI, as it could take up a coffee table all to itself, but also includes my Sega Genesis game cartridges and some of my TI-99 software and books): The most recent pic of my games for those consoles (needs to be updated, as I have more DC games now). Yeah, I know there's extraneous stuff there; the stuff I use is in front, the stuff in back is there because I don't have any other place to put it. And please ignore the karaoke CDs on the top shelf: My TI-99/4A and one of its peripherals: The rest of my TI peripherals, and most of my TI software (some of it was also in my coffee table, in the first picture). BTW, everything there works perfectly, except maybe the telephone coupler modem, which I can't test since I don't have a telephone that fits it:

Questions about the Sega Dreamcast
TI99Kitty replied to TI99Kitty's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Sega Dreamcast is simply awesome! It is one of the very best consoles to own. It's a pure gaming machine and totally rocks. I am so impressed with the DC homebrew scene it has freakin' everything and you can run anything on it. I understand it is a joy to program and has good dev tools and the diversity of different applications available is crazy - you think of it the DC can run it! You can't lose with the Dreamcast. And anyway, from what another poster said, it doesn't matter which model you have; they can all play custom discs. Whether that's true or not, I know mine can. I've used Dream Explorer on it (unfortunately it doesn't do what I had originally d/l'ed it to do -- remove the "Capcom" logo from my VMU that was placed there by "Power Stone 2"), and I'll be burning some emulator discs; mostly ColecoVision and NES emulators, though there's an Intellivision emulator I've got my eye on... -
Questions about the Sega Dreamcast
TI99Kitty replied to TI99Kitty's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Also, if you only have one controller (of course, extra controllers are easy to come by, but still...), it makes it easy to transfer files from one memory card/VMU to another, if you plug both into the same controller. But probably the main reason for the second slot is to have a Rumble Pack and a VMU plugged in at the same time. -
Is there a TI-99/4A emulator for the Dreamcast? If so, where would I find it? I keep a DC at work, and I'd like to show my coworkers Parsec and a couple of other TI games, without having to lug my TI setup to work...

??? I didn't say that! O_o Don't put words in my mouth...

Ever lose out on that auction you just HAD to have?
TI99Kitty replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's nice to fantasize about, but I'm afraid I'd wind up winning the auction, and not have the money to pay for it. It would be just my luck that the person I'm bidding against would decide that they can't afford to raise their maximum bid, and I'd be stuck having to figure out where I'm going to get the money to pay for the auction. -

TI99Kitty replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I agree. If I can't be home/awake when an auction is ending, I just place my maximum bid before I go to work/sleep and hope for the best. I understand that people don't want to miss out when they can't be there to monitor the auction, but I equate those sniping programs to bots on MMORPGs (and I think they should be just as banned). If you want to play the game, then play the ****ing game, and that applies as much to eBay/auction sites as it does to online games. -
Ever lose out on that auction you just HAD to have?
TI99Kitty replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The way I look at it, the auction doesn't really begin until the last few minutes, anyway. All the rest of the "auction" is just time for people to find out that the item is available. Except for newbies (not necessarily n00bs) and people who deliberately drive up the bid to discourage other bidders, it seems to me that the majority of the bidding goes on the last day (with the bulk of that going on during the last hour). And no, I don't bid the maximum I'm willing to bid until the auction is nearly over. I bid what I want to pay, at first, because there's always some joker that starts incrementing the bid until he can tell what the maximum is, then stops. Most times I don't even bid until the last few hours, because I see no point in jacking up the high bid that early. If the bid goes above what I was willing to pay, before I ever get to bid, oh well. I wouldn't have won it anyway. P.S.: To answer the OP's question: Yes, many times. There have been a couple of times that I increased my maximum beyond what I really should have, because I wanted the item(s) so badly, and I wound up bidding against someone who apparently had very deep pockets. Within five minutes the bid would go from $9.99 to over $180, I'd tell myself I'll just have to eat ramen for the next two weeks because I just have to have this, I'd be swearing at my opponent to let someone who isn't rich have a chance, and still wind up losing. And then have a good cry and tell myself that that TI-99/4A lot of all the accessories and 74 pieces of software that "has not been tested" probably doesn't work anyway, and if "r***4" wants to pay $297.53 for it, then he can just have it, so there! -
I don't get it... Where are the rabbits? Seriously, though, I was going to make a comparison btween this and "World of Warcraft," but I realized a better comparison would be "Perfect World." "Draconus" looks a lot like "Perfect World" for the PC, only about six years before "Perfect World" came out -- and without all the WoW-wannabe stuff clogging up the screen. I like that the battles are apprently done in real time, as well. I'll be adding this one to my list of DC games to shop for.

Name some of your favorite PS One games
TI99Kitty replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I know you said no RPG's, but the title says to name my favorites: Legend of Legaia That's it. Though "Crash Bandicoot" is growing on me. I think it's the quirky design and gameplay (not to mention the SFX). -
Well, my rarest 2600 cart is "Haunted House." ...But then, it's my only 2600 cart. ^_^
