I'll throw some "simple" into the mix. Many heavy 6'ers had this colored paper dot, stuck just under upper left corner of cart port, Sunnyvale L6ers as well. If I remove it, strange things happen, unless I get that board lined up perfectly, inside the housing. I'd also consider replacing the 4050 hex buffer, as those can fail in multitude of ways, not just in "fire" function, or use of paddles. Edit- I just saw that you already explored the 4050

All I'm good for in that entire type of game, is elicting laughter lol. SMB, Castlevania, Mega Man anything, Metroid, Ninja anything, etc. The kids love playing against me. I'm not bad at the beat'em ups, like Double Dragon, Turtles 2, etc, and great at some shooters. Oddly, I was quite good at SMS Sonic and the first genny one, but that was about it. Top-down style, I can at least kinda do.

Ys was a considered choice, in my "Mom game" to run this year, as it runs from anything on anything I have here. But, in a test play, all it brought to mind was "He's gonna take you back to the past..." 🤣 Not my type of game, the Zelda-esque ones. I did like some similar, such as Sword of Vermillion, Lord of The Sword, Golden Axe Warrior, and now Crystalis. I'm better at giving the orders, than actually doing it. Everyone should get one of those 239/249/ 253 carts. It's truly done well, and delivers.

That 253 cart is so far, the only one using flash save memory, that will actually run, in my RD2. Any other types using it, the games using it, will crash soon, and even SRAM games will run very glitchy. I've also acquired the 239 version, and it works just as well. The old Retron doesn't care and loads/runs almost anything, maybe a little flicker on startup, at most. In other news, if anyone needs to know, I found a power supply that runs the Retron 2 that Mom had, still boxed. Those cheap repro Genesis 1 power cords fit and run it perfectly. other than the ports being on the sides, I really like how that one runs.

I loved some of those GBC redecos, including that one. I'd thought 1943 was a good one they skipped, but in reality, the screen was too small for the battleships, etc. When my knee lets me, lol, I still play 1942 the same way as back then. Sitting on the floor in front of the TV. All the multi-carts I see, have a corrupted Rom on them, which screws up all the text and score on screen, but fully playable, and at least the title screen with score works. I think only my old 150-in-1 cart has a good one, and my original is fine. My last big play of it, was an attempt to beat it, without using any "rolls/special" attacks. I got within 10 stages or so from completion on 1 credit. Sometimes, the game over breakdown is funny, with random text missing. " HOO ING DOW 87%", PAU, instead of pause. At least the nephews find it funny. I've found that 1942 doesn't get along with HDMI display, as the green planes perfectly blend in over land, unless I set color at 25, and use warm setting. Otherwise, the green is just too oversaturated. It's not apparent, until 3rd stage. Ain't gonna lie, it's my #1 NES game to play.

I'm just past 2nd boss in Crystalis, a game I remember Mom having in her collection. I'm around lv 6, and got the 2nd spell and sword. Just returned from rescuing the dwarf's lost kid and defeating their giant bug monster. My "turbo B" method didn't work on that boss, but still effective for the rest. In talking to the people, I don't really want to save them. All the little side quest items not related to the actual plot, that you need to find, are just results of laziness and stupidity. Windmill guard falls asleep, but none could take the alarm clock from the store and wake him, lost statue by the river, lost child in the woods we poison to keep others out, etc. Anyways, this is the week I lost Mom one year, and around this time, I try to play through a game she never finished, or intended to play and never got to it. She had very few NES titles, but this one was in there. Often, we'd both end up playing same game, and discussing what we found, or how to advance, in long phone calls. She called this type "hack n slash", which I typically didn't bother with.

What have you actually PLAYED tracker for 2023 (Season 16)

This is my method, it's worked on everything so far. In a cluster fight? Just roll the dpad around and drop em all. You can actually just hold the button and walk around, always get the initiative, lol VID_20230608_162400064.mp4 -

I tried that, nope. What did work perfectly, was turbo B, and just let sword keep flicking out, and keep charging the enemy as he reappears. Not a single heal needed. 😈 Same thing works for getting those helmet headed things out of my way, since I can't seem to kill or damage them. This was Mom's type of game. I'm more interested in pick a round of commands, and get a coffee while it plays out. -

I was actually lv4, I just completely suck at anything besides menu driven, or fly around shoot shit, lol. I just beat him, using my turbo pad. Now I'm in the area with ax throwing guys, and things I can't kill, they just "clang" -

I recently began a game of Crystalis, on my 143 cart. Just acquired the Ball of Wind, but fell short of clearing the 2nd half of that cave, after you blast through. Some teleporting boss thing got me. Better than Y's and lightyears past Hydlide, IMHO -

5200- Frogger II- 20min Genesis- Granada- 35min SNES via RD2- FF MQ- 3hrs 40min (actually quite lame at times, but never played it till now) Breath Of Fire- 15min Final Fantasy II- 15min Lufia- 30min Lufia II- 15min Chrono Trigger- 30min Zelda Link to Past- 15min NES via Retron and RD2- 1942- 4hrs 1943- 45min Twin Cobra- 15min Gun Nac- 2hrs Galaga- 5min (I suck at this one) Mario Bros- 25min Guardian Legend- 20min Vigilant- 10min Zanac- 5min (this is insane) Gradius- 5min (still can't pass the two stupid pea spitting mountains on lv 1) RetroDuo 2.0 is excellent on SNES, but the NES side is very limited. I do like being able to play, say 1943, on it with SNES pads, or using the Power Pedal, but it's very picky about how it will load any SRAM games, and actually run them. My old Retron actually runs most anything. Since mentioned above, Crystalis won't run from a cart using flash chip saving, but will run from the older battery type multicarts. It's also very picky on which NES controllers will work on it, via the conversion cable. I use mainly the cheapo 500-in-1 cart, which anything will play, also the new 253-in-1, and both versions of the Forever Games 852-in-1. It'll load RPG's and games that save, from the old battery style, but not the upgraded flash version. A nod to the new 253 model, is that it's the only flash save multicart type that runs on the RD2 for NES I've also picked up a 130-in-1 SNES multicart using flash save, and it's a winner. I've made saves on Zelda, BOF, FF2, Lufia 1&2, and Chrono Trigger, and it holds them all. Only knock I'll add, is that the two included Dragon Quest games- 1&2, and 5, are not the english translations -
These use the Jp colours, but are much cheesier. In storage, I also have the desert set. These are the regular g1 size, not a mini. Not sure if made anymore, I've had these for years. Whole set was like $5 at Ollie's. My other lil' decora-cons came from regular lines. I had lots of G1 & reussues, but sold most to start my welding rig long ago.

Our game this month is the Practice mode of Missile Command, press 8 on keypad to reach it. It's nothing but questionably smart bombs, also referred to as wedgie mode in A8 world. Play on real 5200 systems, using Atari mfg controls, including trackball, if ya got it. -1 HSC pt penalty for use of period analog sticks, such as Wico. The only modern exceptions allowed, are flashcarts/SD loaders, running original Roms. Pics preferred, but not required, except for HSC wins and records. Round ends when month does. Added bonus game, for the willing and able: Missile Command+ (hack). Play on defaults and break this one in. Will be scored as 1/2 round with 6pts downwards. Current HSC record, bust it for a bonus point! May closes with another HSC record falling, but our controllers are horrible, lol 🙄 The win and place in Frog mastery, goes to RB5200 🏆 Thanks to all who played, and keep this little niche timewarp going. 71,904 lv 2 Good game, but it handles like my former '78 Granada. I like the controls of this one, but wish they were used on Vindicators instead. I made it to the nose end on the plane, blew up every thing possible, but still got horrible points. So, I'm missing something, but did get further than ever before. Hackbox emulation is fairly close, but I ran this via multi-cart on my old Gen3. Between 112-in-1 cart, actual carts, and hackbox, I can usually get something to play.
