Free online gaming was the reason I choose PS3 over Xbox. I'm sure there will be an uprising, *if* they do start charging... which to be honest I can't.

quick question, I have one of those SNES joysticks. When I use mine in the 1st player port, the 2nd player's controlls go nuts, is it just mine or is that normal?
Sorry for the late reply. Not been on here for a-while. It used to work fine. Been along time since there was 2 pads plugged into that though, so I couldn't tell you if it still does?

Don't know if this has been brought up... I didn't see a post about it so I thought I'd start one.
Looks great! I will be buying a copy very soon.
Do you think they went too far? I know people are saying it's a homage and some are saying it's down right theft. Personaly I think it looks wicked and long overdue. It was "A Link To The Past" that got me hook, line, and sinker and still 18 years on I play that game. If I go longer than a year I start getting withdraw symptoms and the Snes has to come out... or at the very least an emulator just to get me through those rough times.

OH MY GOD!
I used to watch Bad influence!!!!!!! Damn that brings back good memories!
I remember it's where I first saw uni-rally advertised/reviewed, damn good game that.
When I first read your post I didn't realize what Bad influence was... just googled the scorpion 16 and it came up with a youtube link to watch a clip of it. So awesome. The woman with the short blonde hair and the 90's clothes, classic!
That Scorpion 16 had a couple of things the real Mega drive didn't have, built in game, ability to play NTSC games... rather cool.
(Sorry for the double post).

There have been an awful lot of famicom clones, and new ones all the time. Many have lackluster games, poor imitations of popular games, and plain old hacks. Many are indeed rare, yet worthless. I have a bunch anyway. Be nice if you could post a couple of photos...
Exact same thing as Kool kitty posted though, square-ish, black, rather ugly, the graphics are pretty good though!
Cool, it's rare! Not worth much though (never mind, I had no intension of selling). On the site of famiclones I came across there was a HUGE list of 'em.
This is the only Scorpion-8 I've seen before. There's also the Scropion-16 MD clone, with at least one variation having built-in region switches. (the British gaming show "Bad Influence" featured that in one episode I believe) A lot of old MD clones seem to use 10 MHz rated 68000s, and on top of that seem to have the res of the hardware extremely overclock tolerant. (even more than the VA5/6 model 1 MD/Genesis -the only official models that are usually stable above ~12 MHz)
I do live in England and from what I can remember this was the only famiclone I ever saw, infact not only the only famiclone but only scorpion 8 too. Dare I say, I think the graphics are better than the original?!
I would like to see a scorpion 16 *starts googling*.
Thanks!

Does anyone have any information on these systems, I searched the web and only came up with a couple of sites. The websites I found contained lists of famiclones (scorpion 8 being one of them). Theres no games list on wiki, no games or systems for sale on ebay. Which got me wondering, is this system rather rare... I am guessing so as I can't seem to find another person who owns one or is selling one, or any games.
Another thing I came across was a game called Mel Gibsons safari 3 which was apparently a hoax, some comments underneath stating it was a hoax game for a system that they wasn't sure existed... well the system does exist and I own one (fully boxed with 2 controlers) and a game for it called Q-Boy.
I would appreciate any information on this system as there is a complete lack of it.
Do any of you own one? What games do you have? Any idea how many were released? Where did you purchase it from?
I got mine from a video game shop in a small village where I used to live (long gone now). From what I can remember there was quite a few games on his shelfs for it...

Theres quite a few systems I haven't photographed yet, but here are a few that I have.

Ahh, sweet... and yeh, you are right it was abit creepy!
*note to self, must check out coleco version*

This was a game I played on the intelivision first... many years ago. I played it today on Stella, the atari version...
From what I can remember the intelivison version was alot better. It was alittle bit of a let-down. I don't know if it was just because I was young and gaming has moved on since then. But the colours wern't as attractive and it seemed harder/more fiddly to play, perhaps thats because I was using an emulator and a usb controller, it's a decent joypad though. Having said that the intelivision controler was like nothing I have seen since and from what I can remember was pretty good with venture, was a long time ago so it's possible I'm wrong.
The top left level in the first world has been the main cause of my stress today!
When I get my new atari I will be buying this game even if it wasn't as good as the intelivision version.

I remember the first time I laid eyes on a C64 I was about 4/5 years old... It has a cool smell too it, the box was a very atractive blue/purple with other wicked colours on it and a pic of the light fantastic gun.
My grandad and grandma love playing power poker on the ole beast to this day! I use mine for a bit of retro fun now and again.
As for what else it can do... well it's rather straight forward to program on... I remember typing out the number guessing game in one of the "making the most out of your c64" books. There is also a full office suit avalible and a printer (I have the printer and office suit though the printer is dry). Oh, and theres a music maker thingy too with a piano style keyboard that goes over the qwerty. It is a very cool system.
Loading times never bothered me, it is all part of the fun... really large games can take upto 15 minutes. To be honest I had never heard of fast loaders and the like till I read this topic, something I might look into though as anything that makes life easier and more enjoyable is a good thing.
Some games you may want to check out are:
Monty on the run.
Dizzy the egg (all the dizzy collection are great).
Cauldron 2 (never played the first one, read it was somewhat differnt, though. In my opinion the C64's was the best version of this game).
Toy bizarre.
Chucky Egg.
Finders keepers.
Power poker (don't know if this was released on its own, its part of a bumper collection I have called "big 100").
Flintstones.
Theres many many more, but none spring to mind at the moment... and I guess I could list them all night long if I put my mind too it, though I am sure you wont wanna spend your evening reading my top 100 C64 games list!

I have about 5
I did have about 15, which were lost in house moves. My 2600 burnt out from playing chopper command constantly. So I am currently 2600-less. Keep watching on Ebay for one in the box... but I keep wrestling with the idea of how much I want to pay (obviously as little as possible).
I will have one in the next few weeks for certain. I have also been looking out for games... though Ill be investing in the Harmony cart very soon.

For you're original SNES, it's probably that the cart port is just relaxed a bit. For you're Go, eh...you might could help by wedging a piece of cardboard between the system and cart to help the cart "stay put" once you get it in. Otherwise, all I can really say, don't bump it any more than you have to, make sure the carts are clean (though that's the first thing most people will say/try anyways) For the SNES, you may be able to get a new cart port and help ease the problem, though that may be more work than it's worth, and some of those thrid party ports are cheap pieces of shit that can damage the carts (or sure as hell feel like it) For the go, while unlikely, it is possible one of the pins is bent, you can push the dust flap in and look at the port, it should look even all the way across, if they aren't, you can try to fix it, replace it, or talk to whoever you got it from (they may replace it for free)
Thanks for that.
When the Snes does make a re-apperance I shall wedge the cart with cardboard... It was more when going to turn the system off that you could accidently knock it. It did it to me about a year ago when I turned it off... a good few hours of "Link to the Past" gone! I have had it since it first was released (I was about 8 then). It started doing it after a few years of owning it... I was still young and me and my brother could get into a fight over a game and knock it while it was turned on, deleting the save of the current game often causing a big fight! Ahh, good times.

-
Sorry to double post.
Also, I didn't know such a device existed... the fc16 look a cool bit of kit, were they only avalible in NTSC?
Also forgot to add, if you knock my Snes cart it not only goes off but erases the save game too... happened many-a-time with "Link to the Past".
-
HA!
I thought it was only my Snes that did that!
-
They are not expensive, and are worth it. They pop up on Ebay often.
I have one in the box with instructions... got it when it first came out, £35 - £40 if I remember correctly (ouch!).

Well, I posted earlier today in the "are you a collector or gamer" thread and mentioned I go through stages of playing something then shelfing it for months. The Amiga 1200 was the current thing...
Now its 23:38 and I have a serious urge to bust something else out... whats it gonna be...
I'm really leaning towards the Lynx for a good session on pac-land, or perhaps chips challenge... though if chips challenge comes out I can see it being a late night, and then theres finding 6 batteries to power it, hmmmmmmmm.
-
I would class myself as both... I go through stages of playing something then loosing interest and moving on to the next thing, but I could never bring myself to sell any of it. I do have a Jaguar in mint condition, boxed with manuals and another brand new sealed controller which I have no games for... so I have never used it. But I could never sell it.
My lynx is boxed with instructions and warranty card and games too... I have had many hours of joy from that, though it's safely tucked away in a cupboard at the moment.
My amiga 1200 made an appearnce about 2 weeks ago and I bought a few new bits for it, HD cable, more floppies and like... Used it alot recently though I must admit its dying off again and will probably be put away again in another 2 weeks for me to fetch out something else... perhaps the dreamcast, or perhaps I should buy a couple of games for the jaguar... or maybe get out the lynx... we shall see.

*tumble weed blows by*
I take the lack of reply means this is a stupid question and all games were supported.

I have about 10 games, but I only really play Call of Duty, Modern warfare.
Feel free to add me up!

Were all 2600 games compatable with the 2600 jr? May be a daft question, but I am sure I heard/read some were not.

*kicks self in teeth*
SNES and Megadrive were 16 bit... Don't know what I was thinking there.
The point I was making about the Phillips CDI was it used CD format, and was released in 1991. That was ahead of its time... I can't say for sure if the MegaCD was before or after that?
Back to the Dreamcast... When I was at school a few friends had the N64, only 1 had Dreamcast and the rest were like me who had the Playstation. The friends with the N64 used to mock and call it the "Greystation".... Ah good times.
NEC's Turbo Express? What is that? Don't know if they were released here in England? *does a quick google search* Oh man, that looks cool! Still can't recall that being in England... I am sure I would have known about it.
Finaly back to the Lynx... Ok, portability, and battery life (the fact it needed 6 of the bugers too)... I can understand that. But I still really belive that thing is a great handheld and should have been a sucess. Shame.
-
and then some of them or even the former people go and buy a Game Gear instead
Made me chuckle that, but true!
I must also admit I bought the Dreamcast in the last 7 years
And I must also say I was one of the people who followed the masses... but in recent years I realized the error of my ways and colleted the Lynx, Jaguar and Dreamcast...
I understand the Jaguar didn't have the impressive libary other consoles had, but it could have so very easily been different.
The games for the CDI were very sketchy, coupled with a strange controller
But I would like to add one to my collection at some point in the future, with all the Zelda collection (have you seen the price of some of those Zelda games!?!?!)... even though they were no "Link To The Past".And finaly on to tetris... I am sure that matching blocks up to fit in and make a row vanish was around before Gameboy... I may be wrong?

And destined to fail!
Today I have been photographing some of my computer collection, which got me thinking... How come these great systems failed. Atari Lynx is one of the first that springs into mind. Colour screen, backlit and yet the gameboy won the war.
As I am sure you are all aware there's many more systems like this that were better than the rival but just failed to make the sales.
Jaguar yet another one, the rivals were 32 bit while this system was a 64 bit no less!
Sega dreamcast with online play (though I am sure being able to easily play copied games was one of its downfalls).
The Phillips CDI was another revolutionary beast, again a failure.
The list goes on... The way I see it is that most good things ahead of their time are set to flop... I wonder where we would be today in terms of technology if it was the other way around.
On a final note to my rant; anyone seen the Amiga Joyboard for the Atari systems? I am sure you will have! That thing is soooo Wii fit from the 80's (though not as technical), I wonder how many were officially sold? I bet it wasn't alot.

A long shot, and I may very well get flamed for this...
Does anyone have a cuttle cart they are willing to sell?

Lynx Prototypes & a couple of other thing...
in Atari Lynx
Posted · Edited by SeanXTC
Just wondering if any of the prototypes listed in the rarity guide are actually out there? Like in collectors collections? Do they ever show up on Ebay?
There's not all that many games to have the full set for the Lynx (101 I think) excluding prototypes. I've been thinking about trying to get the whole collection for the Lynx (already have 7) so that leaves 94... and they seem cheap enough on Ebay.
Not made my mind up weather I should try or not. I can imagine it being a nice feeling when you get the last few elusive titles to make it whole.
