You can also adjust the fine tunning on the rf modulator. I had to to that a while back to get the picture to look right on my LCD hdtv. It looked fine before on older CRT tvs but for what ever reason it didnt on my LCD. I fiddled with that a little bit and now my dads old 4switcher woody looks pretty good.

I bought my PS3 slim over the xbox 360 slim because of blu ray, free psn and better reliabilty. Get which one you want, dont listen to anyone else!

So I was playing on my atari the other night and accidently hit the channel scan on my remote and my tv found three channels on the air. The weird thing is that it only has one rf port and the only thing that was in it is my atari's rf cord. I unplugged the cord and the show that was on (Criminal Minds) went off and my tv showed no signal. Plugged it back in and it came on again. I thought that this was really weird. I did not notice any signal problems with my atari. So my question is anyone had this problem before? I dont think it will have any harm.

I would use the 40gb untill you can get a new 160gb slim. I love my slim. Cool and quiet. Although it did freeze up the other day on youtube and I had trouble shutting it down. I was finally able to turn it off and when it turned back on it sent a error report to sony. Mabye I should have gotten that extended warranty.

I found this cool thing on ebay. Is it really as rare as I have heard? MODS: move this if you feel you need to. Didnt know if this is the right place or not. Super Rare COMPUMATE KEYBOARD: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 350257358931

There pretty stiff. unless you get one that was used alot. I have one of my dads that is very lose and comfortable but the contacts are worn out. I need to replace them but cant seem to find the time. When I dont feel like using a joystick I use a sega genesis controller 3 and 6 button ones work. There are also lots of good third party sticks out there too. I dont have any but Ive heard that the Wico sticks are pretty good. Ebay may be your best bet for that.

I saw the post on the atari 2600 tear down. Pretty nice, but one of the things they outlined was the sound tuner. That little pinkish thing sticking out of the sheld. Atari 2600 tear down at IFixit Is that something you can adjust with different sound results or would that provide unwanted results and damage your atari? Just something that came to my mind and because Im to scared to do it and break my beloved I thought I might just ask first.

I am currently fighting to split my time between playing Call of Duty World at War and Batman Arkham Assylum and checking out my Star Wars movies in HD.

Thank God this never happened...yet

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! That made my day!!! -
I know that Star Wars Battlefront II still works online as of January 2010(The last time I was online with my PS2). I havent touched my PS2 since I bought my PS3 on July 31. That being said I need to dust of my Atari 2600 and PS2 that are sitting next to it.

FLANNERY=FlannMann I just got my PS3 on Friday. Only got Call of Duty: World At War at the moment but I am more than happy to kick anyones butt at multiplayer.

On the like list: Atari 2600, PS1,2,3, and N64 On the fence list:Xbox and Xbox 360, to many hardware issues ive seen. Wii, not enough games to interest me and I like to sit down and play videogames. NES, I got one for $10 at flea market and just no interest. Would rather play my atari. Everything else I have not played or I just dont care about it. Just chalk it down to a lack of interest.

All the people who compare cleaning their Atari games to brushing their tee
FLANNERY replied to gamme's topic in Atari 2600
Steel wool is an absolute bathroom neccesity; Superman keeps a box right next to his toilet. Morgan Morgan, no offense, you are misinformed. Superman orders both his atari cartridges and his cheeks to stay clean at all times. AND THEY DO!!! Chuck Norris taught him that. -
The Prettiest Looking Game System Ever!
FLANNERY replied to 4Ks's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'll go with the atari 2600 wood grain veriants. The playstation 3 fatty and the xbox 360 slim as the prettiest game systems of all time. The rest are just ether there or ok. -
In terms of sound effects I personally love Asteroids. I love the jaws theme. Frogger is a really good one for sound effects and the theme song that's played when you turn the atari on and start a game. I like Berzerk too but it does not differ from normal atari sound effects. Warlords is a pretty good one to but it is very close to Breakout. Star Raiders is ok, again some times generic sounds.

You all are a riot. And jinglejoe I'm not a mr. I'm only 19. The black plastic looks ok to me the way it is right now and the wood grain only has a slight line on the top edge were it is worn and you see black plastic underneath. I really want to touch up the orange trim more than anything and polish the switches. I'm a broke college kid so I can't spend a lot of money on this. Would some kind of silver popish be ok? I know that the switches are made out of aluminum so in theroy it should work. But then again there is that hole fact and theroy collide aspect to be considered.

Howdy all! I was looking at my atari tonight and was wishing that it would look like brand new. but alas 29 years have not be the best. I looks fine except the chrome switches are not that shiny anymore and Im starting to lose my wood grain on the top corner edge, and Im losing the orange stripe around the switches. Not to bad but I would like it to look like new again. My question to you gents (and possibly ladies) Is how do I polish the switches, and fix the woodgrain and orange trim? Thanks in advance!

List all the games you've beaten so far
FLANNERY replied to GameGirl420's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Atari 2600 Asteroids is the only game I have beat for it. I got a double roll over in one game for a total score of 201,228. I guess that counts as beating it. PS2 This counts as classic right? Battle for the Pacific Civil War a nation divided Lego Star Wars 2 Star Trek shattered universe Star Wars battle front 2 (My favorite PS2 game!) Short list I know but I dont think its to bad for a casual 19 year old gamer going off to college. Which reminds me I have some errands to run before I graduate High School tonight. One quick question: How do you beat stupid super mario bros. for the NES. That game is starting to really make me mad. -
No offense or anything, but that's like riding a bike instead of driving a car because with a car you'll have to pay an insurance company to drive it, get a license from the state... all of which can be taken away depending on what you do in the car. I mean, yea with a bike you avoid all that ... but I mean... at the end of the day you're riding a freakin' bike. The 2600 is good for what it is, and it's great memories, but I'd hardly say it could hold my interest for very long and satisfy my gaming needs like a more modern system can. No, its more like driving a nice safe FORD that's nothing fancy but has been reliable for years and gets you from A to B in comfort and safety vs. that nice shiny new Toyota that will send you careening to your death into a brick wall. Hey dont talk bad about toyota. That puts food on my table, and those congressional hearings were unessary and stupid. You're right, they're innocent Toyota accepted the design of the brake and gas pedels, however, Toyota had made a recall before congress decided to "crack down on Toyota". The recalled called for the falty part to be replaced free of charge and the process took less than 30 mins. They even shut down the plants untill new safe parts were supplied. I know this because my dad puts strut towers together at the plant here in Kentucky. They had them clean the plant for a solid week! Not every Toyota that is on the list is falty. For one part they will use three different suppliers. The congressional hearings were a publicity statement. One congressman even said during the hearings that you should trade in your unsafe toyota for a new GM. Toyota stock took a nosedive, and two hours later the congressman had to retract his statement as not entirely acurate. GM, Ford and Dodge all had recalls not long after Toyota did, but you did not hear that in the news, at least not on the Obama News network(NBC),the Clinton News Network(CNN) or ABC( no bad nickname at this time, check back later). It was mentioned on FoxNews a couple of times and that was it! GM also released a ad in the censis of the forementioned congressmans first statement. GM at this time was owned by the government and got lots of new customers as the press dragged on ranting about Toyota's under control recall. On a side note GM has said that they have repaid their loans recently, read this article and then will talk. http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2010/20100505152937.aspx Toyota took the correct and responseable steps to correct their mistake. The last time there was a congressional hearing on a car subject matter it was in the 1970's with Ford Pinto's that would explode when hit in the rear! Lets see, exploding gas tank vs brake and gas pedel sticks (But I guess people could not think to put their car in neutral and pull the emergancy brake.) Just wanted to expose some truth because people that keep slamming toyota without all the facts is getting really old, that and they do not want to be properly educated, I think it has to do with not wanting to be proven wrong. Sorry for the rant, I look forward to more allsome youtube vids. You and classic game room are the only reasons I go to youtube anymore (too much stupid crap on there). I always look forward to your new finds at the end of the day. You do a great job, got me interested in atari and look forward to more, keep up the great work!

I picked up a NES a couple of months back at a flea market. Blinked like crazy! I just disabled the lock out chip(Broke one of the pin leads, not sure which check youtube) and it doesnt blink no more. I still will have connection problems when i first plug a cart in but at least i can fiddle with it and see what im doing instead of seeing that stupid red light! somebody should have been shot for their stupidity of it's design! I cut my fingers to peaces on that darn rf shelding! Ok rant done. Still it works good now and I love me some super mario bros.

I hear ya 'bout the Flashback sticks being hard to find by themselves. I was lucky that one came in a lot with a six-switch Heavy & kit I won on eBay a while back. Basically, you have to be both diligent and patient: Diligent, meaning hit eBay every day; patient, because even with diligence it may take a while to get one. Just keep an eye out; watch Atari system and accessory auctions. Sometimes they show up with systems, sometimes by themselves or with other accessories. Watch pictures - unless the seller is knowledgeable, many times they don't know they have a FB stick because they look practically identical to the originals. But you know what they look like so you'll spot one right away if its pictured. If you really want one and can't wait for one to surface on eBay, buying a whole Flashback set is always an option if you can swing it. They're really quite reasonable considering what you get. If you don't want the FB unit itself, just sell it with some original sticks and keep the FB sticks. Heck, it could even be a selling point: "Brand new Flashback with original Atari joysticks! Don't mess with those modern repro sticks, now you can play all the classic games with the original Atari equipment in your hands!" -tet I can just see the negative feedback already because there joysticks would'nt work!
-
Heresy! Don't you know that VCS games are made for a joystick? In the same way, most D-pad games are made for a D-pad. G'head, plug that Genny controller in and just try to play "Asteroids." I dare you to get as much enjoyment out of the game! IMHO, there's some ineffable quality which is lost when playing a VCS game with a D-pad. Seriously, though, get your hands on a Flasback 2 joystick. Same design as the classic, original stick, but the buttons are the modern carbon dot/rubber membrane switches, instead of those ache-inducing, finger-breaking steel dome switches. I'm tellin' ya, you won't go back to the old stick once you feel that modern button action! -tet Thanks tet for pointing out my ignorance. I have looked on ebay but can not find flashback 2 sticks just by them selves and I dont want the console because I already have the real thing. I have one working stick and one non working stick. This is my dad's old setup and he broke it long ago. I have seen some repro sticks on ebay for around $10 I think. They look like the sticks shipped with vader and Jr units, black with nonpainted stripe around stick and orange fire button. Are these worth the money? I know that one day my current 29 year old stick will fail on me and I cant stomach the thought of not being able to play Asteroids, Berzerk, Cosmic Ark, and even Pac-Man, there I said it!(ducking thunderbolts) It may be called the worst port of Pac-Man but I dont think it's too bad.

That's Just Wrong!

OK so I tried to replicate my feat and after a couple of tries I rolled the score over again but only made it to 19,500. This time however my atari behaved normally and there was not odd color to b&w with static interferance problem. Hopefully it was a one time fuke. Can someone give me more insight to what may have happened. I did not clean the cartridge or the slot in the atari. This just really weird!
-
I did play with the UFO's but I didnt know that it only counts if you play on even numbered levels I played it on level one like a true noob. But regarding the b&w and static problems, is my console starting to go bad I really hate that if it is I had big plans for it this summer.
