Hi Guys,
I apologise if this has been bought up before, but I have a question regarding the Atari VCS 800. I am based in the UK and have recently purchased a very nice all in one walnut fronted unit off Ebay and have been really pleased so far - apart from one issue..... I can't work out how to purchase games from the store. I managed to subscribe to Antstream arcade ok and I notice that the prices for the games in the store appear in my native currency of British pounds - however, when I enter my debit card details I am asked for my Zip code. We don't have that here in the Uk - we have postcodes instead - which consists of letters and numbers. I have tried entering my postcode and its not recognised. Has anyone from the UK managed to get around this issue? If so could you please tell me how to do it? I want to support Atari and buy some games but at the moment the VCS store wont let me. Thanks in advance and any help is gratefully received.

This is good news (ANY new VCS news is good news!) - especially as I took delivery of my Atari VCS only today. Waited patiently for Atari to release it in the UK - but never happened, so it was Ebay to the rescue and I was lucky enough to find one in mint condition, already here in the UK. I will purchase stuff from the VCS store and try and support the cause as much as possible. Hoping that some cool old Atari 8-bit titles appear. But as I said, any news is good news. Looking forward to Spirit of the Samurai myself. Any ideas of a release date on that one anybody?

Hey fellow Atarian's out there. Hope everyone is well. I came across this interesting webpage today about S.A.M being a possibility for the 2600. Has anyone got any further development news on this?

Any info would be fab! cheers all - have a great weekend

This is true, there are some incompatible games etc, but I think it's the novelty that it's a bit rare, and a lot of us think it's a good looking old computer. If a little on the large side!

Hi there, I was sent a link to this topic via a fellow atariage member. Please may I ask if the 1200xl is still available, and if so, how much is it please?
-
click more reply options then make your post,
then scroll down
click browse, use that to find your file
then click attach this file
then click add to post
you know what to do after that.
Hi there, thank you for your assistance with this, giving Atarigrub some pointers has helped out a lot! I appreciate your time and effort!

Hi Atarigrub! Please find scans also of cover, cassette and instructions as requested by Farb.
Enjoy!

Thank you so very much for that. It was really kind of you to take the time out to do that for me. Much appreciated, and if I can return the favour for you then please do message me and I will see what I can do. Thanks again!

Hi Grant74,
I bought a copy some years back, but unfortunately I'm not looking to sell it. However, I did make a CAS file from it to use in an Atari Emulator if you want a copy?
For reference, the first few lines of the BASIC listing state that it was first published in Computing Today (May 81) and adapted for Atari by G.A. Greenway © ASP Software.
Thanks
AtariGrub
That would be awesome thank you, any help is appreciated. Just let me know how we can sort it out and if there is anything I can do for you in return?
-
Hi there, yes please Atarigrub, any help would be great thank you. If I can find a way to convert from cas file to xex I could even play it on my side loader in my 800xl. Thanks to all replies so far. I know it's not exactly a well known game nor is it up there with Dropzone etc but I enjoyed it back in the day nonetheless.

Hi All,
Just wondered if anybody had a copy of this game they would be willing to sell? I would be very grateful if so. Please get back to me if you can help out with this.
Much appreciated!
Cheers Everybody and may 2018 bring you many hours of retro gaming fun!

Hiya,
Blimey! I really must check my responses a bit quicker! so a very belated thank you anyway! The game title was definitely Conquering Everest, however after looking at the PDF file of the game you suggested it does sound very much like the same game. Although the logo looks entirely different I must say. I can't find any info online about ASP software, apart from I believe they are from the UK and mainly wrote early RPGs.

Hi all,
I'm a big Atari fan and love my A8 and ST, and have had the same 2600 for 34 years now, however I could do with a little help with something more modern. I got a modded old school original Xbox for Xmas with lots of cool emulators running on unleash. However i would love to know where to get Atarixlbox and how to get it up and running on the Xbox, just for fun! I have a little experience with running emulators on pc but not done anything with Xbox as yet. I've heard of FTPing but no idea how to do it, so if possible I'd like to try and burn a dvdr instead and transfer it to my Xbox. I know this is a big ask guys but I'd really appreciate your help if anybody is kind enough to reply and get me started!
Cheers all!
-
Yes, apparently its very rare. I believe it was a tape only game, written in BASIC too I think. Its basically a strategy game where you manage a team to try and get to the summit of Everest. It's probably not as good as I remember - after all its not exactly Dropzone or something like that but if I can find it that would be cool.
-
Hi all!, hope you are all keeping ok and still enjoying the A8 scene. I am coming here cap-in-hand to be honest, in need of a bit of help.
I'm chasing after a game for Atari 8 bit called "Conquering Everest" , which I think is by Asp software. I cant find the title for sale anywhere (tried Evilbay etc), so I wondered if anybody has an .XEX file of it I can use on my side 2 cartridge and load it up that way.
I know its not the world's most exciting Atari title but i did used to have it many moons ago and would love to play it again on my Atari.
Thanks in advance for any help received.

wow, thanks a lot for the feedback guys! certainly gave me plenty of options to consider, which is just as well as I have nearly completed the room now - so should have new carpet in next week and ready to get the Atari "shrine" set up again! Really do appreciate your help guys.
Well done everyone! - but yes - I think its time we built up a database (or at least a large list!) of tv's which work and which Atari's etc have been used on them - def one for a stcky post I reckon!
Cheers all!

Hi guys! sorry I have been away for so long. Been moving house etc, and my Atari collection has been in boxes at my parents house. But all that is set to change soon as I tackle the decorating in my "Atari" room!
The problem is I want to use a modern lcd tv on which to run my Atari's - So I can hang it on the wall out of the way.
I own a Sony Bravia 26" in the living room - this tv is having NONE of it! - However I remember trying them out on a crappy NEON 19" tv I bought from Morrissons a while back and they worked fine. That tv is used in my main bedroom though - so I need a tv of approx 26 - 32" of size for the aforementioned "Atari room", have you guys got any suggestions as to what definately works?
If it helps - I own the following -
Atari 800xl (with ram upgrade - cheers "mimo") - running a monitor to scart connection
Atari 2600 running standard RF (may convert soon)
Atari Jaguar running standard RF - till I can afford a scart cable!
Atari ST running scart cable
Maybe we should start a definitive list of modern tv's (inc model numbers etc) which people own that can cope with old computer signals! - I heard Samsung's were normally good for this kind of thing?
Apologies if I am going over old ground here guys (maybe the powers that be will let us post a sticky?)
Cheers Atarians!

lol - the XL has Mikes name on it - but dont worry - ya not missing a great deal - its not exactly a boxed minter! more a poorly donor!
-
ps - that last message may read a little wrong - in a hurry to do tea and trying not to burn the kitchen down! lol! - the XL is for free obviously - just need to do a deal on the old woody
-
cool mate - no worries Mike! - the XL has your name on it no probs - ya can buy the woody too if ya want it - dunno what its worth to a fellow Atarian though! Maybe we could do a trade on summat? WHY?
-
I'd love one myself - White or black would be cool - think I'd go with black with blue backlighting though. Would be good if it was backwards ST compatible though - it'd have to have TOS as at least a secondary OS (is that even possible!) - hate to think of it as just another Bill Gates special! - then again, maybe that could be a way for Atari to fight its way back to the front of the mainstream and reign supreme again! Nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy eh! I def think that if somebody has got the technical know how they should at least build a few of these so-called "ST-2"'s and maybe auction them off - for charity maybe? Get Atariage put permanently on the map!
-
cheers for the input Mike! nice one - hope ya keeping ok buddy. long time, no see! - Krylon Fusion eh? cool name - sounds like a death metal band!
Hopefully catch you at next RCM - ps, have got a spare 800xl if ya want one - the one that we scapped off to rescue mine - its a bit pants but maybe make a good donor - keyboard is nice condition though - let me know. Needs a serious retro-brite session though - or a trip to B & Q! lol!

Hi there - sorry for delay in getting back to you - must check my posts more often! - so, to answer your question. I removed the outer covers (of course!) - the badge I masked off with plain masking tape and a REALLY sharp blade (stanley knife type) - the little plastic "windows" where the led's are were carefully cut out with the blade too (dont worry - you can superglue these back in later - steady hand and maybe a pair of long nose pliers needed). As for the surface prep - not a lot really - clean the outside - I washed mine in the sink and left to dry outside in the sun (yes, we had a sunny day in England!) for an hour. Then I just "keyed" the surface a little with some "wet n dry" paper - not too rough, say about P800 or P1000 - then a couple of coats of the primer - maybe just half hour between coats on a warm day (it dried really quick) - then 2 to 3 coats of top coat - about an hour or more between coats - then left to dry overnight. Put the ST back together the following day. Its worth noting that I would leave gluing the led windows and removing the badge masking till the last moment before ya put it back together - and place the ST face down on a towel or similar to protect the freshly painted surface. Worth the effort though - I'm pleased with mine and a couple of months use so far and no signs of deterioation in the finish. Let me know if you have difficulty in finding the paint and I will try to help you - although I can imagine shipping to the US would be expensive and I dont know if you'd incur a import charge? We do in the UK if we import from the US - but I dont know about vice versa.
Sorry for delay again, hope this helps!
Grant

funnily enough - this happened to my ST once - mind you I was punching the back of it trying to get my disk drive to work again, but a few good punches later, disk drive was working again, and once it had been reset a couple of times the screen was ok - cool! More luck than technical ability I'd say!

Help for UK owners please?

Thank you for the help so far guys. I'm hoping this problem will eventually be sorted and go away! I will keep trying things. What a shame that Atari seem to have turned their backs on UK based customers. I think there is still a market for them over here (albeit a small one compared to the heydays of the 80s). Who knows, maybe one day they'll listen. Great products, crap service.
