  1. WOW - cheers for the info guys - think I may go for the Star raiders II version then as its lots easier to get hold of and seems slightly better to me, but thanks a lot for the comparison information - can always rely on fellow Atarians! Grant.
  2. Hey fellow Atarians! Just a quick question for ya'll. Does anybody know the difference between Star Raiders II and The Last Starfighter? If any at all - just that I seen "Last Starfighter" on Evilbay the other week - cartridge based, for £14.99. But then I wondered if somebody had perhaps just stuck a homemade label over a "Star raiders II" cart and trying to fob it off! Is it worth trying to track the latter, or shall I go for the easily attainable official version Star raiders II? thoughts guys and gals? Cheers all!
  3. Hey fellow gamers! Atarians and others! - Had a great time at the show in Swannington today - many thanks to the organisers and to those who took along their prized possessions and allowed all to have a go! - Especially to the guy with the Atari Jaguar 3-D set up! A once in a lifetime opportunity to have a go on that! Met some great people and seen some wicked set ups - Roll on the next meeting! See ya'll again. Cheers.
  4. Hi Mark - nice to meet ya at the show today - many thanks for the 1050 mate, what the bloody hell was I doing with tapes! I reckon it even makes my PS3 look slow - for saying there is more than 25 years between that and the 800xl! See ya at the next show! cheers dude

  5. Thanks for the advice guys - some top tips there! - I will try and get my money back from Evilbay first though (good luck with that eh!) - failing that I will have a look into getting it fixed - I have a friend who used to service arcade machines who is very good with electronics. But I'd rather be refunded my money back!
  6. hi guys -yeah - checked the rear toggle switches - both in right place, emailed guy on evilbay to try and get a refund! Awaiting reply.............
  7. Wow - a lot of posts on here since I started this hot potato of a topic! Nice one guys! Nice to see a load of good folk with one thing in common - the Atari! Some quality games coming up on the lists - mule and bruce lee mentioned quite a few times - bruce lee was ace! Me and my sister used to play it as co-op and we'd team up the big guy and bruce lee and just find various funny ways to kick the s@#t out the ninja guy! what fun! lol!
  8. Hi Preppie! thanks for your kind offer of the dos disk - cool! - I may go to retro computer thing - I didnt know it existed - where and when exactly is it? I may have more pressing issues than the dos disk though! - think I may have been skanked on evil bay - the 1050 I have bought dont appear to be working - the power on light comes on - but the busy light doesn't light up - permanently off, so nothing happens - just a power light and thats it - any ideas? I have a friend who is very good with electronics and may ask him to have a look - I could try and get a refund on ebay, but that may take a while, unless you have or know of a cheap and working 1050 knocking about? I will eventually get a sio2pc but want to stick to original stuff for now - plus I got loads of disks to try and nowt to try them on as yet! Grrr! any help/info gratefully received. Cheers.
  9. Wow! Some top games on these lists already guys! thanks for your input - hopefully plenty more people will post their favourite games too - keep them coming Atarians! Dropzone - I especially remember that one - a kind of Defender clone - but way better in my opinion!
  10. Hi TMR - all titles are welcome matey! homebrew included! Speaking of which - can you include in your listing the best place to get these homebrew titles from, although I suppose nowadays they come in the form of downloadable roms as opposed to the old fashioned Atari formats? cheers
  11. Hi guys! ok - maybe this has been asked before but I'm gonna give it a go anyway - I'm gonna ask people to submit a list of their top 10 games for the Atari 8-bit machines - the format (cart, disk, tape etc) dont matter - just like to hear your opinions and maybe I can get some ideas for expanding my freshly started game library! (recently returned to Atari 8-bit after owning one in mid-80s - bit of "re-living my youth!"). I'll kick off with ten of my favourite games (bound to get ripped to shreds by hardcore Atarians though!) - here goes nothing! : 1. Ghostbusters 2. Spy vs Spy 2 3. Jet boot Jack 4. Jet set willy (yes, I know its a poor conversion!) 5. The last Starfighter 6. S.A.M (anybody got a copy of this for sale?) 7. Spellbound 8. Whirlinurd 9. Beer belly Burt in Brew biz 10. Red moon There ya go guys - let me know ya thoughts on my list (good or bad!) - and submit your own lists and I'll see about adding one of two of the games to my collection. Many thanks everybody! Keep it Atari!
  12. Yes, thanks guys. Bought a couple of games on disk to try out my 1050 - so fingers crossed. I have heard people mention these sio2pc devices - are they any good? what do ya do with them? I take it you just paste roms onto an sd card, load it into the device and the Atari does the rest? Forgot to mention my Atari is an 800xl so no need for basic cartridge. Thanks guys.
  13. Hi therealbountybob! Thanks a lot for the info mate! - a lot of useful stuff there - will look into 2.5, I just assumed I needed V3 as thats what it said on the box, but I have since read elsewhere that 3 was quite buggy and many owners weren't happy with it - hence the 2.5 .I'll update my location and hope some kind fellow atari fan out there can spare a copy of dos. Any takers? Cheers - nice one for the info.
  14. Hi there fellow Atarians! - Have a few questions for you fantastic, knowledgable people! I have recently bought a 1050 disk drive to go with my 800xl and 1010 tape drive. However - having never owned a 1050 previously I have a few questions about it. It was boxed- with manuals, but it doesn't have the dos3 disk included (states it is "dos3" on the box) - do I really need this disk to load up games etc? I have no idea what dos3 does - I know its an operating system - thats all! If I really need this does anybody have a copy they're prepared to sell? or even better, donate! lol! Also - how do you load games with the 1050 - i.e - do you have to hold down any keys when turning computer on? Like I say - a complete novice when it comes to the disk drive! Finally - is it possible to transfer my tape games to disk (if I can purchase some blanks from somewhere!) and if so, then how is it done? cheers folks! Any help is gratefully received!
  15. forgot to add - its not being used on a modern lcd tv - I'm using a standard crt tv and using the rf connection.
  16. Hi Mate - yeah, I seen another topic on hear which sounded similar although he posted screenshots and it looked a lot worse! At the minute mine does it periodically whilst playing games - yet to look at the "ready" screen you'd think nothing was wrong with it! Strange! - So, I've bought another power supply from evilbay just to try it and if that dont work one of my friends is going to take a look. He used to repair arcade machines for a living so is well versed in this kind of work and hopefully can cure it - if my power supply aint already fried it!
  17. Hi! Cheers for the advice! I reckon I'm way outta my depth here! lol! I'll leave the 1010 well alone - it does work - just not 100% reliable loading but then I am expecting a bit much from a 20 odd year old tape deck with old tapes too! maybe you're right about sio2sd - seen em on ebay for about £45 - sound about right? does this item allow you to boot .atr roms straight from an sd card and play them on your atari? this would be awesome as loads of roms floating about in cyberspace! Does it come with some software to enable the atari to boot the .atr files?
  18. Hi guys - just wondered if anybody has ever managed to graft an sio port from a 1010 tape deck onto a standard tape deck of any description and how did you do it? So that I dont have to rely on the often unreliable 1010 atari deck. Any diagrams etc would be nice too! If anybody has achieved this, did you get much better reliable loading? Many thanks guys.
  19. Hi there fellow Atari enthusiasts! I'm new on here - this is my first post. Hopefully one (or more!) of you guys can help me with a slight problem I have with my 800xl. I bought it of evilbay recently, and it has a strange picture problem. The computer didnt have a rf cable when I got it so I purchased a cheap standard rf cable off ebay too, I hasten to add not an original atari item with the little switch box inline. The problem is weird, the screen that you get when you first turn on (standard blue screen with "ready") is 100% fine, but when you play a game the screen is sometimes distorted when the screen flicks from one scene to another, sometimes it goes black and white too. Only when playing a game though - like I say - the normal blue screen is fine! Strange! So, what do you think guys? RF cable? RF modulator? power supply unit? Any suggestions would be gratefully received! many thanks!
