  1. Those would be nice if they weren't so big. Even cutting the sample rate in half and using 4-bit data they'd still be too big. The SPO256 certainly didn't have 130KB of ROM in it; how did it store things?

    The real thing uses a programmable digital filter modelled on the human vocal tract. A 16K ROM holds both the filter 'model' and code for operating the chip. I'm guessing this would be hard to implement ?

     

    The reason I suggested the samples is I was playing with this which uses the same technique.

  2. Delicon is assembling the boards himself. I'm going to have to learn to do this also. This is a necessary measure to control costs.

    I've just started soldering fine pitch SMD with the 'solder flood then braid technique'. It works amazingly well on the 0.65mm pitch FT232R chips I've been using. I just line it up using magnification, then tack down a pin from each side to secure it before applying the flood. I spray the board with some flux remover afterwards and the finished result is 100% perfect.
