I think I've got this figured out but having more information to confirm it will always help.

I was using the Happy Control Board schematic from Jerzy Sobola (below) as a starting point as it's what I could find.  However, as the saying goes: caveat emptor.  So I make sure I figure everything out first to try and confirm the theoretical operation of the schematic.  This is how I discovered there would be a short, under certain conditions, and the sensor wouldn't detect anything.  That sent me on several hours of study to try to figure out how this thing would be connected.  Between the Atirra Hardware Reference Manual, some pictures of the Happy Control Board, the 1050 Field Service Manual, and tedious study, here it is at the bottom.  Links to other sources are here, too.

    Original schematic I started with:

    Corrected schematic:

Note that the addresses of $4000 and $9800 don't have the mirror addresses listed.  Also, when these addresses are called the indicated line goes low and it's movement to low is timed with Phi1 going low.

I did this 7 years ago with the Smirk 1050 Clone :)

  2. Well, first boot didn't go as expected. Turns out I had 2 more micro bridges which took out the U1MB and the chips from GTIA to PIA :(

But after fixing I swapped the GTIA, ANTIC, SALLY and the PIA along with a borrowed U1MB from my Good XLD  and it boots to a blue screen, so that's better 😃

I have spare 64k memory chips and should have spares for the rest (3-4) chips... Didn't have the PIC chips plugged in yet.

Just Ordered 2 U1MB's from LOTHAREK...

OH! forgot to mention the DreamBlaster is still good and when the XLD is turned on, you hear that cool tune :)

Let me know how it goes.  I applaud you on your fortitude for trying to do DIY on this I/O System Mod.  It's not easy.

Thanks Lenore :)  I'm sure this will work pretty good.  I like your additions to these, it's nice having a built-in Printer Port plus the SIO2WiFi AND supporting Cartridge access too.  This is my 4th A8 that I built: 1450XL, 1088XEL, original 1088XLD and now your 1088XLD with the I/O ModSystem :)

    Thank YOU 😄

Also, this machine has the problematic keyboard malfunction and is missing the "2" key. Can someone point me in the right direction on getting that key?

I'll check on that...   I have a parts keyboard and will see if it's the same type.

One question: in the BOM I downloaded from Myteks homepage, there were a few references (Note 4) to a document/pdf with „installation tips and tricks“

I was not able to find it anywhere - not on the website and not in this 39 pages thread (well, I briefly scanned through, not reading every post in detail)

    is this document existing?

This is one I downloaded a few years ago.  DELETE if needed..

There are existing headers on the board for the RGB output plus the handful of signals needed for the VBXE nor provided by the ANTIC interface. If you read the documentation on Lotharek’s site plus the 1088XLD schematics, it’s not too hard to figure out.

Okay, does it use the XL or XE Adapter board underneath?

I've added a 10 ring timeout to the code. Tested locally with telnet and works fine. Is this something that needs to be configurable or is 10 rings a good fit for most situations? Right now it's hard coded.

Test build firmware is available on my personal fork of FujiNet code https://github.com/mozzwald/fujinet-platformio/releases/download/v1.0-pre6/fujinet-ATARI-v1.0-pre6.zip and can be installed with the FujiNet-Flasher following the instructions on the wiki https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-platformio/wiki/FujiNet-Flasher#flashing-a-custom-firmware-file

Take a look at the HAYES Modem emylation in my code here:

It has better "S" Register handling...

I ripped out the 9v power supply, rectifier, heatsink, and added a PBI connector as well. :)

To drill the small holes, I use a paper template Candle gave me, a centre-punch, and a very thin bit in the Dremel. The existing monitor socket is still there and fully functioning. The RGB jack is sitting where the RF modulator used to be, the case aperture for which was used as the starting point for the wider DIN13 hole.

Jon, Do you have a printable DIN-13 template you could share?

    Thanks,

    Jay

"View file as -> Binary" (hope you mean this as RAW?) and simple "View file" under right click on file menu, shows the same result, as you see on screenshot. Unfortunately.....

Yep, that's what I meant.  Have you tried running it with Administrator settings?
