  5. Remember when Albert put sales to UK on hold while he got to grips with the new VAT law? Seems the law's backfired spectacularly. 😂 One poor guy got tax bills for 11,000 overseas companies. It's the latest tax fraud by companies selling on eBay and Amazon.

  7. If you had a game console with an RF adapter, what channel did you use to play games? It was 3 for me here in the states... was it different in other countries?

  8. For a short while, I toyed with the idea to look for a newer (used) car to replace my 2004-05 Citroën which no longer is able to open the tailgate.

Then I saw that none of the classifieds in the range up to ~$4000 would substantially improve my driving situation, so I'll pass for as long as my old car still moves from point A to B without too much repairs.

Even in the range ~$4000 -  $6000, I would just barely improve my car. I suppose for a newer car that hasn't hundred of thousands miles on the meter, I need to up to $8000 or thereabouts, which is twice what I would intend to spend on a used car.

184,200 on the Jeep, somewhere north of 160,000 on the Peugeot, and 135-ish on the VW :D

I've had a few vehicles that have been well over 200,000, a couple over 300,000, and the family record is held by a 1979 Dodge Challenger (badge-engineered Mitsubishi Sapporo) that, by the time it was impounded for unpaid parking tickets, had racked up 480,000 miles.  AFAIK they were all original-drivetrain vehicles.

Ah, yes, the joys of living on the plains - opening your car door and finding out that with wind power it can out-accelerate the vehicle it's attached to :D

Had that incident break the metal check link on the Peugeot's front passenger door.  It now opens really wide, though, so that's nice, I guess.

Re: Junkyard parts: if the failure is in a plastic piece (clip, moulding, etc.), spend the money on a new one.  My experience has been that if the part has failed on your vehicle, it probably will in short order on one that's the same age if it hasn't already.

I've had a surprising amount of luck with getting Citroën, Peugeot, and Jeep parts out of Latvia and Poland at very good prices via eBay.  Also check amazon.se; they appear to have door handles (though I'll admit that I didn't check if they were specific to the Break) for anywhere in the 250 Kr. to 400 Kr. range.

amazon.ie has also been good to me in the past, but for some odd reason they're just coming up to a blank page for me at the moment.

Which model of Citroën is it?  Might be something that's relatively easily-repairable.

I do hear you on the dilemma, though.  I'm three years past where I intended to sell my current daily driver (2005 Jeep Liberty / Cherokee), but the used car market is insane and I have zero interest in buying anything new.

(I'm a multiple-times owner of both pre- and post-PSA Citroëns, so have a bit of familiarity with the cars.  To this day, the 2CV is still the joint-first best vehicle I ever owned.)
