  1. What size and type of SD cards are you using? I've found that 32GB is the practical maximum, though 64GB cards may work. Check that both the SD card and cartridge are seated properly, and that the cartridge slot and card edge contacts are clean. One last thing: did you buy this with a HOKEY installed?
  2. My kryoflux is used professionally for data recovery and forensics work. In amongst the spiel that I give to all prospective clients: it's their responsibility to provide media that is free of mold, and if I see or suspect any, the disk doesn't go in the drive. The risk not only of damaging a drive that's going to be a PITA to replace but also starting a mold colony in my gear / home is not one I want to take.
  3. The openings in the case for the ports are still there, but there's nowhere on the PCB to solder the controller jacks to and not all of the hardware needed for the system to be able to use the sticks is present. You'd also need to install the 4-port OS ROM. This is where you'd be better off picking up a 4-port and transplanting it.
  4. Quick observations on hardware (2600 Jr., Harmony Encore; 7800, Concerto): DPC: Returns to title screen after start music (2600 & 7800) Multisprite: Crashes after title music (2600), plays on 7800 with following exceptions: Side tunnels do not work - can't enter them After game over, what looks like a corrupt version of the title screen appears with 'PACMAN MAP' at the bottom and Pac-Man running around in a square pattern If you die with 0 points, the score will wrap around to 99995; further deaths without scoring will keep decrementing the score by 5 points I should point out that I'm running an experimental (non-public) firmware version on my Concerto, so my results with that cartridge may not match everyone else using a similar configuration.
  5. Perhaps, but asking if something is the greatest or not is going to open up the question of subjectivity. One man's treasure is another man's garbage and so on and so forth.
  6. I just hope that Paul - whoever he may be - receives royalties on the sale.
  7. Not that I'm aware of. There isn't a lot of call for them because 4-port models are fairly readily available. Swapping a 4-port board into the case you're looking at should be relatively straightforward, however.
  8. Completely understood; I have a burn scar on my left arm from where I brushed up against an iron that was laying horizontally on the table. That was the point where I stopped being lazy about returning it to the stand.
  9. Chances are that it may have been written on an Atari, but before the XE line was introduced. The XE in the photo may have been the machine that was being used at the time, but the script would have been written at least a year before production began. That would make an XL or 800 a more likely candidate.
  10. This. @dukes909: Where are you located? Depending on distance, I may be able to help.
  11. Yep, you should be fine. Note that I never had a P:R: Connection, so am basing this off of others' experiences. YMMV.
  12. MESS was merged back into MAME a long, long time ago They're now the same project.
  13. The Atari800 emulator supports the 5200 as well as the A8 range. If you're a Mac user, check out Atari800MacX.
  14. To add another option to the list: the FujiNet is capable of loading tape images. If the tapes you're working with don't have preexisting images those would need to be created, but that's not a terrible process.
  15. Hit CTRL-G on the title screen. Some of Glenn's conversions would show hidden credits that way, and his name would be lurking in there. This might be one of them. And since we're talking about there being two different versions of Gremlins floating around: I have a vague recollection of running across this BITD. From what I (barely) recall, one version omitted the title screen with the gremlin on it, opting instead for just a text screen giving instructions for how to start the game. This may be my mind playing tricks on me, but it sounds about right. That's the version with the screwy sound. There is a fixed one out there, IIRC.
  16. When will this thread get a 5200 and A8 port?
  17. This is exactly why I don't care for 'greatest x' or 'worst x' threads - they're typically too subjective to lead to any sort of worthwhile discussion. Having said that, though, Lead is definitely a great game. The 1K version is fun, but the way the 8K and 16K versions expand the gameplay really helps to round it out. All three are equally playable in my book, and I love how the feel of the core gameplay was carried through all three versions. Definitely recommended, and a great example of what can be done on the 2600 in the right hands.
  18. Still ignoring this thread... TO THE EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!
  19. I used Atariwriter on an 800XL with an Epson FX-80 via an 850 interface for several years, and can confirm that it worked fine. As stated earlier, it will print in the default font without issue, though you may want to check out the printer driver disk as it has FX-80-specific drivers (amongst others). 16K definitely won't be enough memory, though. In addition to the 64K upgrade, the same person (@reifsnyderb) also has a 320K version. If you go with that one, there is a version of Atariwriter that makes use of the additional memory (which is also useful for other software) and also provides 80-column support should you want it in the future. See this link for the software and manual; complete details are contained within it.
  20. Yeah, well, I'm gonna ignore this thread even harder than the last one. And I ignored that one pretty damn hard.
  21. But what about our FOMO?
  22. We typically have a couple laying around, but lack of availability in the recent past meant that neither one of us was doing the sorts of projects that needed them, so they never got replenished. It's more that we have interests that intersect at times She's not as much into older hardware as I am, but has a background in BattleBots going back to when she was a teenager. As a result, we tend to do similar stuff but in different ways or for different reasons. Glad to hear it; I am buying semi-blind on this one having never used that specific model before and am going by what I've read in reviews (Amazon and elsewhere), watched in videos, and found in the way of software for it. Still, it looks like a good bet - lots of flexibility at a reasonable price. Exactly what's needed for getting back into the saddle.
  23. Not anything I can free up; my wife used our last Arduino for I-can't-remember-what. By the time I order one, it's getting up there in price near the lower-but-OK end of EPROM programmers. What I'm looking at is one of these. For what I need and want to do both now and in the future, it should be able to pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time.
