I was all set to take a bunch of pictures of Madalaine and some ice cream because she beat me at video games, but then I found out that I no longer had any ice cream! But I did find something else she likes...

Chu: I'm sorry, Madalaine. I don't have any ice cream for you! But I did find some Jello!
Madalaine: Yay! It's my favorite flavor, too. Thanks, Daddy.

Madalaine: I'm so happy that I get to share some Jello with Daddy. Make sure you leave me my share! I did beat you, after all.
Chu: I'm sure you'll be full long before I'm done.

Madalaine: Thank you, Daddy. I'm so full.
    Chu: You're welcome, Madalaine.

Madalaine: Daddy! It's the third period, and I'm up by two! I'm going to beat you!
    Chu: We'll see about that!
    Madalaine: You're so mean, Daddy!
Chu: Just do your best, sweetie.

Madalaine: No! You've tied the game! I've got to score another goal to win!
Chu: You can do it, Madalaine.
Madalaine: Yes! I get a penalty shot! Is it... It's good!

Madalaine: That's it! Time's up! I win! 4 to 3! I finally beat you, Daddy!
Chu: Congratulations, Madalaine! I knew you could do it.
Madalaine: Can I have a victory ice cream now, Daddy?
Chu: Eh... best two out of three.
    Madalaine: Daddy!

Madalaine: Daddy! Are we going to read the Revolutionary Girl Utena book from the new DVD set like you promised?
Chu: Of course! Let's have a look at it now.

Madalaine: It's a sketch of Utena herself! I like Utena.
Chu: I like her too, Madalaine. She's a very strong-willed and determined girl.

Chu: Are you enjoying the laserdisc liner notes?
    Madalaine: Please, Daddy! I'm reading!
    Chu: Oh, sorry.

Madalaine: Daddy! Help me! The book is trying to eat me!
Chu: Nice try, Madalaine. It isn't going to make the last Utena set come out any sooner, you know.
Madalaine: When is it coming out?
    Chu: December.
Madalaine: It's the Absolute Destiny Apocalypse!

My daughter Madalaine has been feeling a bit sad lately. She asked me a shocker of a question that I never expected, but I guess that comes with the territory when you're a father.

Madalaine: Daddy? Do you love me?
Chu: What? Of course! I love you very much! Why don't you think I love you?

Madalaine: It's because you've been so busy playing video games and reading comic books and watching anime. You don't seem to have any time for me anymore! We haven't had any Daddy and Madalaine time in ages!
Chu: I'm so sorry, Madalaine! I didn't mean to make you feel that way. I didn't mean to be so selfish.

Madalaine: But you spend so much time doing other things that I don't know what to do. You play your new PC Engine with Donna, and you watch Revolutionary Girl Utena all alone without me. I wanted to watch Utena with Daddy. I know you like that anime a lot, and I wanted you to share it with me.
Chu: In that case, of course we can watch Utena together! After that, we can read the little book that came with the DVDs. And after that, I'll do my best to keep you in mind so you don't feel lonely anymore.

Madalaine: Do you mean that, Daddy? Do you really mean that?
Chu: Of course, Madalaine! You're my only daughter, and I want what's best for you.

Madalaine: Oh, Daddy! I love you!
Chu: Whoa! Big hug incoming! I love you, too, Madalaine.

Madalaine saw a new girl in the neighborhood as she was walking home from school today.

Madalaine: "Excuse me! Hello! I haven't seen you around here before."

    Shiori: "La-la-la-la... oh, hi!"

Madalaine: "Hello! My name is Madalaine. What's yours? Are you new here?"
Shiori: "Nice to meet you, Madalaine. My name is Shiori. I just moved here a few days ago."

Shiori: "Oh dear, I have lost a contact. Can you help me please?"
Madalaine: "Certainly. I just hope I don't step on it."
Shiori: "Thanks a lot! Oh, here it is!"

Madalaine: "Get over here, you cutie-pie!"
    Shiori: "Oh! My, you're affectionate."
Madalaine: "That's just because you're so adorable, Shiori."
Shiori: "Ha! Ha! You're nice, too. I'm so glad to have met a girl like you. I hope we can become best friends."

This post isn't just an introduction for Shiori. It's also an introduction for Madalaine wearing the To Heart 2 schoolgirl uniform. She looks positively darling in it, don't you think? Anna's wonderful red stockings complete the ensemble.

But to get back on the topic of Shiori, she's a Red Shoes Momoko doll. Her shoes are actually a bit large for her, in my opinion. Her whole outfit is just really cute, though. I have decided not to use her hat. I really like that hairdo of hers.

Shiori is named after a character in the Battle Royale 2 movie, of all people. Shiori Kitano.

Unlike Shiori Kitano, though, my Shiori is not going to be holding grudges and fighting in a war. She's a sweet girl who loves her new friend Madalaine

I took Madalaine to the doctor today. She always likes seeing Nurse Kara before she sees the doctor.

Nurse Kara: Hello again, Madalaine. How are you doing?
    Madalaine: I'm doing fine.
Nurse Kara: I see you're here for a routine checkup. Do you have any concerns about your health?
Madalaine: No, I'm feeling fine, Nurse Kara.

    Madalaine: Oh! That's cold!
Nurse Kara: You wouldn't believe how many times a day I hear that.

Nurse Kara: That's all. The doctor will see you shortly, Madalaine.
Madalaine: It was nice seeing you again, Nurse Kara. Have a nice day!
    Nurse Kara: You, too!

I just got this earlier today. It's a PC Engine Duo-R. It's the Japanese version of the TurboGrafx-16/Turbo Duo video game console from the early 90s. This Duo-R is similar to the US-released Turbo Duo.

Donna stands next to all the PC Engine stuff I have so far. Two controllers, an American TurboGrafx CD game, and the console itself.

She inserted my only game, Last Alert, into the drive bay. The laser in the drive is new.

Donna checks out the HuCard port. She sees the Japanese HuCard/American TurboChip region selector switch. (I don't have any HuCard games yet, but I have a couple from both regions on their way.)

She sits on the console and plays some Last Alert. Save the world, Donna!

And for my final new doll for a while, I'd like to introduce my new brown-hair Cowgirl Momoko doll. Her name is Tex. She's a bit of a tomboy, and she's a raucous cowgirl! She meets my older blond Cowgirl Momoko doll, Sammy, in this little photo story.

Tex struts on to the scene as if she owns the place.

Sammy: "Hey, pard-ner! May I have this dance?"
Tex: "Sure! I was just about to ask you the same thing."

Tex: "I'm not swinging you around too fast, am I?"
Sammy: "Not at all! Is that all you've got, cowgirl?"

    Tex: "Whoa! You're good!"

Tex: "You're not going to out-dance me! I still have a few tricks... oh no!"
    Sammy: "Yeeeeee-haaa-dangit!"

Tex: "Oh no! are you hurt?"
    Sammy: "Just my pride."

I forget who said it, but somebody asked me "Do you really need two cowgirls?" The answer is YES!!! I had so much fun with this photo shoot. I actually looked up some square dancing on Youtube to make sure I got the motions right. It was nice to do something different.

Both girls are loosely named after
As has become the trend with my doll naming lately, these girls aren't anything like their namesake ^_^'

I might as well use the blog section to share some of my other hobbies. Dolls are one of my favorite hobbies, and I coincidentally took a few pics today that serve well to introduce most of the dolls I have.

Here are Alna (right) and Yukino (left) looking lovely! They're both wearing their cute white heels that I got for them last year. They're very nice, and they go well with their classy party outfits. They look like they're at a party of some sort.

Alna's wearing a pretty light blue dress with a cute little white jacket. (To be honest, I'm not sure which end of the jacket is the top ^_^') The pearls around her neck are actually the straps on her dress. It's very clever.

I was doing a lot of cleaning around the basement, and I reorganized a bunch of my dolls. Not all of them are here now, but a most of them are. Here's where they are now.

They're all currently back in their stock outfits. I finally changed Supergirl on the left back to her stock outfit yesterday. My first Jenny is standing next to her. Mikuru, my first doll, is next to Jenny. Next to Mikuru is another Jenny, my kimono Jenny! I actually had to tape kimono Jenny's stand to the bookcase because she kept on falling backwards. She tends to go a bit off balance, I'm afraid. To her right is my Momoko doll, Alice! I also had to do some tape magic on her stand. She's in a new pose now, holding her basket with both hands. Standing all the way on the right is Samejima Mamimi from the anime FLCL. She's very similar to Jenny dolls.

Lounging in front of Supergirl, my first Jenny, and Mikuru is another one of my Momoko dolls, Valerie! She loves relaxing. Last, but not least, is the anime icon Haruhi Suzumiya, sitting in front of Samejima.

I still have some more that don't appear in this blog. Maybe you'll see them next time

My new Momoko girl Madalaine arrived yesterday. She's sweet as sweet can be!

This is the first picture I took of her. I took it as a quickie for the Friday Night Chat on Dolly Daily. I generally don't use those types of pics for anything but the chat and take better pics later, but I liked this one pic so much that I had to keep it. I hadn't even put her stand together yet, so I had to kneel her down on a CD jewel case. I think she looks like a sweetheart

Madalaine is actually named after the Winger song, Madalaine! I had this song in mind before I got her. I thought she was going to be a wild girl, but that's apparently not the case. I still loved the name, though, so I decided to keep it.

Here she is playing with her hair. She has a cute little hairdo, I think. It's very short but also very girlish. Her bangs are absolutely perfect.

Unfortunately, I don't like her outfit very much. I have a hard time keeping the metal straps over her shoulders. They originally came tied together in the back. It probably would have been a good idea to not cut that string. Oh well. The top hooks together in the back with two little round buttons and two thin loops of strings. I can't keep the lower one together. Overall, the top is too poofy for my tastes. The rest of her outfit is all right. She has a basic black skirt and a classy pair of high heels. I'll probably change her clothes very soon, though.

I absolutely love my little Madalaine! It's funny, other people sometimes talk about how Momoko dolls all look so young like they're 12 years old or something. I always thought they were wrong. All of my other Momokos are 15 or 16 to me, but Madalaine looks so young compared to my other Momokos. She has an adorable look of wide-eyed wonder that doesn't appear on any of my other Momokos. So cute!

I actually had these girls for about a month, but I never got around to taking pics of them. Shame on me! ^_^' I finally made a little photostory for them.

Kasumi is the Fireworks Date girl on the left, and Mickie is the Milk Tea Party black version girl on the right. Kasumi's name inspiration came from the video game character Kasumi from the Dead or Alive series. You can find a very nice pic of her here. The name Mickie kind of sounds like milk, her Momoko concept name, so I decided to go with it. I had a really hard time coming up with a name for her, actually, and it was one of the reasons I didn't take pictures of her until now.

    Anyway, here is the story!

Mickie: Come on, Kasumi! You have to see this!
Kasumi: Wait! You're pulling my arm out of its socket!

Kasumi began to gasp for air.
Kasumi: You run too fast for me, Mickie! I need a second to catch my breath!
Mickie: Sorry. I just want to show it to you! It's amazing!

Kasumi: Whatever it is, it can wait. I'm keeping you close so you don't get any ideas to run fast again.
Mickie: All right, Kasumi. We can take it slow until we get there.

First post about my dolls in a while ^_^' Well, here it goes.

Volks USA had put some new clothes on sale a few weeks ago. Most of it sold out within the first four minutes, but I got a little bit of what I wanted after all.

Here's Yukino in her new schoolgirl outfit. I wasn't able to get the boots that went on sale with the outfit, but I felt that these simple black shoes were good replacements. There's actually a dress under that coat! It's a really nice coat, though. Yukino's lovely in it, isn't she?

The flash came on for this pic. I think it really brings out the color in the coat.

Yukino tried taking off the coat, but it's a really tight fit on her arms when combined with the sleeves on the dress! At least you can see more of the dress here, though.

There was actually a small jacket that belongs between the dress and the coat, but I couldn't fit it all on her! Maybe sometime in the future when I outfit Yukino with her medium bust I'll try to get it all on her. However, even with the medium bust, I think the triple layered sleeves might be too much for this outfit. Perhaps it's meant only to be worn when the coat's off after all.

Ys is a video game series from Japan that dates back to the late 1980s. It's an action RPG series known for its unique combat systems and keen sense of adventure. It is rather popular in Japan, but it is mostly unheard of elsewhere in the world. Up until last year, Ys releases outside Japan have been few and far between. Last summer XSeed games began bringing Playstation Portable versions of Ys games to America in grandiose fashion. Included in the special edition release of Ys Seven is a map that encompasses the entire world of Ys. My Momoko girls spend some time reminiscing the adventures with this map.

Sammy, Valerie, and Donna explore the continents on the map.

They all lounge around Romn. It's depicted as the center of the world in this map. Sammy has a particular fondness for The Alp because it's rumored that's where Felghana is. Felghana, Dogi's hometown, is featured in the third Ys game, her favorite. Valerie is relaxed next to Altago on the Afroca continent. She likes the latest and greatest game, and it takes place in Altago. Donna's just taking in the whole Eresia continent.

Sammy's now surveying The Vortex of Canaan. It is a very dangerous region that will suck you in and won't let you go if you're not careful!

Donna chuckles while Sammy acts out her inner cowgirl on Valerie. Sammy wants to explore all the lands of Ys!

More doll stuff, but it's Atari related. This is actually an older set of pictures I took about a year and a half ago. I had a crappier camera back then.

    (Click pics for full size)

Yukino is playing a video game

Uh-oh! It looks like things just got intense!

Yukino takes a break from the action to flip through the Atari video game catalog. She sees some games she might want to play.

Yukino now browses through her collection of games.

    Yukino loves Pac-Man.

And a bonus pic from last summer.

It is kind of a recreation of the Atari 7800 joystick shot that I took last year, but I added in the stockings and changed the joystick to my new British Atari 7800 controller. It looks like it's more Yukino's size. It's good for any size, actually.

I had never seen the movie Top Gun until just a few hours ago. I had played the NES game a few times at a friend's house when I was a kid, but the first Top Gun game I really got into was the PC game from last year. I got it for $2.50 during the Steam holiday sale and beat it on Christmas day.

The story didn't really make much sense to me in the game. Having seen the movie, it's apparent that they were trying to adapt the movie story entirely into dialog while showing planes flying. It also completely ignored certain characters and parts of the plot like Charlie and everything she did. However, now that I've seen the movie, it was rather light on story to begin with.

The game traded the romance plot for more missions and action. I found myself asking "um, more planes?" all the time while watching the movie. Charlie had a mature sexiness that I appreciated, but the whole storyline took me off guard. I went in expecting a balls to the wall action movie with lots of 80s guitar rock, and I got a chick flick and You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

One thing that surprised me was how short the credits at the end of the movie were. It was much shorter than what you usually see today. I wouldn't be surprised if the PC game had a longer credits list.

Overall, it was a good movie, but I don't see why it became such a phenomenon, much less had a couple of (in)famous NES games made based on it.
