  1. You may be limiting your library, but you're also not going to be wearing out the cart slot. Third party backup memory is also weird, and I wouldn't trust the Action Replay's memory function. Something about timings being different due to compressing and uncompressing data. It's been a long time since I read about it. All of those third party memory cards from the 32/64-bit era were junk. The only third party memory card I ever found to be worth a hoot is the Dreamcast 4-in-1 Nexus/Innovation memory card with the PC link.
  2. You must have been looking at those insane eBay listings. Last I checked a CMVS would cost around $300, pre-built. Somewhat less if you put it together yourself, but it's harder than assembling a PC for sure. Where can you get one for $300?
  3. Because a consolized MVS with Universe BIOS costs more than a PS3 and a 360 put together, and MVS carts, while generally cheaper than AES carts, still take up an absolutely mad amount of space. Deciding to put a lot of time and effort into modding a crappy old $100 Compaq PC into an S-Video outputting emulation station in direct opposition to a possibility of buying a consolized MVS is perhaps the greatest gaming decision I have ever made.
  4. I'm 25. I put my vote in the 18-25 category because I didn't know the next one also had 25 until I read other posts about it. I saw 18-25 first and didn't bother reading the rest. I got my Jaguar earlier this year. I hadn't played it since playing in-store demos of it in the 90s.
  5. Those seem neat. How much? I am too lazy to Google. I hope you're not too lazy to click. I'm too lazy to type out all of the prices. http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=29&osCsid=bc8d0491bbbf016dfded6779c2c6ad58
  6. It might just be the RF switchbox. Either hardwire it like I did, get a new one, or get one of those little doohickeys that gives you a straight line to the back of the TV. You can also put other RF switchboxes ahead of it in the sequence, such as NES and Genesis RF adapters.
  7. That looks like how my Atari 7800 was before I soldered the RF switchbox to essentially hardwire itself to being in game mode permanently. The slider switch had gone bad. Since you're using an NES RF adapter with the 7800, I'd imagine a similar thing is happening. The 7800 was never meant to be used with an autoswitchbox like that. The 7800 doesn't output a strong enough signal to trip the NES RF adapter into game mode, and it's probably outputting like that because of that reason. That little doohickey the seller gave you might still be of some use. Get any old RCA cable. It doesn't matter if it's mono, stereo, or just a single line. You're only going to be using one line. You can leave the other one or two hanging. Plug one end into the back of the 7800, and plug the other end into that doohickey. Then get a coaxial cable. Put one end on your TV. Put the other end on the other side of that doohickey. If I'm correct, you should have a hardwired connection from the console to the TV. Just make sure your channel is set to 3 or whatever is appropriate. If the picture comes in clear, you've got a good 7800. You may still want to buy a regular switchbox for it, though, but be advised that you will need to manually flip the switch every time you want to play your 7800.
  8. Oh yeah, I missed that one. Also check out Fighting Vipers. I love Fighting Vipers.
  9. I'm not a hardcore fan of Mortal Kombat myself, but I do have the Jakks Pacific TV games version of it. I have two, actually, and I can confirm that they are linkable via an included link cable. I made a (bad) video about it a little while back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DwIUW5GaUA
  10. I got my first handful of cartridges for Christmas, and they're absolutely phenomenal. Vs. Super Mario Bros., Vs. Duck Hunt, Vs. Excitebike, and Vs. Super Mario Bros. 2j all on NES cartridges. I'm looking forward to my first purchase with them in a few weeks. I documented my first four games in this video I made a couple days ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58vDbCKyeqA
  11. Magic Knight Rayearth! The US release is wonderful. Virtua Fighter 2 SEGA Rally Daytona USA CCE Guardian Heroes I'd only recommend region switch modding the Saturn, plugging in an official memory cartridge, and never removing it. Avoid the 1M and 4M RAM carts and all the games that require them. Never use any unofficial cartridge of any type. You can play just about any game that requires the expanded RAM carts in some other format elsewhere. Your best option is probably emulators. Unofficial backup memory is horrible for the Saturn. Avoid it. The pins in the console for the cartridges are fragile. It's been theorized that SEGA designed the cartridge port with the idea in mind that there would not be a lot of cartridge switching going on. That's why I recommend putting one backup memory cartridge in there and never removing it. In addition, unofficial cartridges are notorious for having thicker PCBs than official cartridges, and they do damage because of it. You'll probably never need a second cartridge because even the official memory cartridge has a ridiculously huge amount of memory space available.
  12. They're smaller. In the range of 45-110 Megs vs the 600+ Megs the later games could be. I think the later ones used special compression to pass the 330 Meg limit which may be an issue with emulation. Tempest There are no emulation issues with those higher capacity later games. At least, not with a halfway decent emulator. Based on how horrible the US-released KOF Orochi collection for the PS2 was, I wouldn't put it past them.
  13. You couldn't find anything on it because these problems don't exist. I own a 60GB console myself, and I've had no such problems. One potential performance issue is with the older 60GB hard drives. I remember reading something about them and Gran Turismo 5 and how they take longer to load due to lessened caching ability. I can personally attest to the fact that no playability issues arise from it, but you may want to upgrade the hard drive. Or you might want to skip on it like me.
  14. Do you have a name, link to a store, and maybe a price for those things?
  15. Seriously considering sacrificing my Checkered Flag cart to do this. I got a SkunkBoard V2 last week, and it has gotten like no use since I don't want to pull my Jaguar out of the TV stand and over to my electrostatic safe mat every time I want to insert my SkunkBoard. And I can't stand Checkered Flag.
  16. Is there a list of part numbers and whatnot and places to get them for all the Atari 7800 parts? I'd love to replace all of the switches on my 7800 if I could. Specifically the maintained power switch.
