  1. I considered it in order to get the 20 free games, but I'd rather just wait for a newer revision of the system.
  2. I made a little introduction to my console with one of my dolls. I posted it on my blog here on AA. http://www.atariage.com/forums/blog/410/entry-8413-donna-plays-my-pc-engine-duo-r/ As you can see, it does work. I guess this thread has run its course. Thanks again, everybody!
  3. I just got this earlier today. It's a PC Engine Duo-R. It's the Japanese version of the TurboGrafx-16/Turbo Duo video game console from the early 90s. This Duo-R is similar to the US-released Turbo Duo. Donna stands next to all the PC Engine stuff I have so far. Two controllers, an American TurboGrafx CD game, and the console itself. She inserted my only game, Last Alert, into the drive bay. The laser in the drive is new. Donna checks out the HuCard port. She sees the Japanese HuCard/American TurboChip region selector switch. (I don't have any HuCard games yet, but I have a couple from both regions on their way.) She sits on the console and plays some Last Alert. Save the world, Donna!
  4. Thanks for the info, everybody. I got the system today, and it came with a 100-240VAC power supply. I lucked out. There's no need to use my Genesis 2's power supply at all. The power supply is 10VDC, but it appears to be a regulated power supply. It's only a slight bit over 10VDC. I think it will be okay in the long run, but I might still go find a 9VDC power supply to replace it regardless.
  5. I actually spent a lot of time reading up about this because I'm getting a Duo-R myself. (Premodded, so this information really doesn't do much for me, but I had already read it, so whatever.) PCE cards on a TG16 Option 1: Get a converter of some sort. They work in a similar way to an NES 60 to 72 pin converter. I have no idea how easy it is to find one these days. Option 2: Perform a hardware mod. http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/region.htm TG16 cards on a PCE Option 1: Get the same type of converter you would use above, but also perform the pin 29 mod outlined below. However, you might as well just perform the mod below. Option 2: Perform a hardware mod. http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/region.htm CDs are completely region free. They're also copy protection free, so take that for what it is.
  6. So, maybe not now, but in a handful of years, we can download scans of gears used in our old video game consoles and print new ones out at home for replacement parts? Flippin' awesome.
  7. I just got a very nice email from the seller in Japan. At the end, it says that the system can take a Genesis 2 power supply. I have one of those, so I'm all set. The range of voltages is quite large, so either the system has a big tolerance range, or there is an internal voltage regulator. The Genesis power supply is 10VDC at 850mA. That's barely over the 800mA minimum outlined below, but whatever. However, I am a little concerned. My multimeter was reading it as 13VDC. It's not regulated. But it's probably okay. The voltage will probably drop with current draw, and my Genesis 2 has been fine for nearly 15 years. Anyway, here's the email. Refer 1: How to change region mode between PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16. Refer 2: Safe suspend for CD-ROM gaming. Refer 3: How to solve for CD-ROM drive unit issue. http://homepage3.nifty.com/moremaco/slv.htm Refer 4: As you see, this console has been fine work in Japan. But, when console arrived oversea, somehow there is the case that does not turn power by unknown origin. In this case, please try it with following some AC adapters. --- SEGA (Genesis2, MegaDrive2, CDX) --- SONY (PSone, PS2 slim). --- Other products (Voltage between about DC7V and DC10V. An electric current above 800mA.) -doujindance
  8. Well, I could splice the right size connector, but I'd rather not hack up the power supply as it is sent to me by the ebay seller. At least not yet. I guess nobody's too concerned about it. Well, I will have a look at the power supply when I get it. Maybe it'll say 100-120VAC, and maybe it is a regulated power supply. I can check that with my multimeter. If anybody else has any experience, please chime in!
  9. I've thought about doing that, and I may if it turns out that it outputs the listed DC voltage due to the presence of a regulator. I'm still digging for information, though.
  10. So I just nabbed this a few hours ago: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 190561605157 My only concern right now is getting a power supply to work with it. The listing says it comes with a Japanese 100VAC power supply. I've seen a pic of the back of the console that says 9V right next to the DC input, but I don't know the current the system requires. I do have a spare US Jaguar power supply. It's 9VDC at 1.2A. I have no idea if the current rating is sufficient and if the connector will match the Duo-R's DC input, though. (And I'll be mindful of center positive/negative, too. If need be, I will cut the cord and rearrange it so the polarity is correct.) Does anybody have any experience from their own Japanese Duo-R usage in the USA? I'd really like to avoid getting a 120VAC/100VAC step down transformer.
  11. He'll be in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Turbo. as DLC Exclusive to GameStop preorders.
  12. I've seen this before. Interesting stuff.
  13. Sweet. Let's corrupt our save files to delete them because we can't do anything about them otherwise.
  14. King of Fighters XIII is a pretty good game! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4cMEcQ13XU I also discuss other KOF games I have.
  15. Years ago wasn't there just such a DVD? Seems to me someone put out a DVD that was like $5 to buy but you could only watch one time. After that if you wanted to watch it again they would charge you like a few bucks. It went over like a fart in church. I dunno if it was even around a year. Anyone else remember these disks? Seems to me Circuit City used to sell them (God rest CC's soul) I predict the same thing will happen in this case. I saw them in the clearance bin at some store I went to last year. At first it blew my mind, but then I remembered that I actually read about it a few years prior. Then I realized all the movies were about that old. They must have tanked incredibly.
  16. It's been a while since I last took a pic of my Supergirl. Here's a new one right now. It's Nurse Supergirl! She's a very nice nurse ♥
  17. You can always get the right aspect ratio no matter whether you're using a 16:9 TV or a 4:3 TV. There's an aspect ratio selector in the XMB. The black bars around the screen are irrelevant to the aspect ratio. The component cables should help with text. They did so for me on my SDTV. The TV's got to have a zoom function if you want it to fill more of the screen, though. Personally, I have a rather large SDTV, so it doesn't bother me. It's just like playing Super Game Boy to me.
  18. Did you include the file extension? And then hit F5?
  19. 1. Yes, CFW is available for firmwares up to 6.39. 2. I've never used a PSX2PSP, but I think it's a way to get PSX ISOs to play in the PSP PSX emulator. 3. The PSP is its own set of hardware. Sony just coded a very good PSX emulator for the PSP, so it can play many PSX games near perfectly. 4. I never saw a 2000 screen, but I absolutely love my 3000's screen. I played a 1000 back in 2005, and that version's screen turned me off from the PSP so quickly. When I got my 3000 last year, I went into it expecting that horrible screen. I was pleasantly surprised by how crisp and clear it is.
  20. What is CFW. Custom firmware. This is something I want to look into trying, I love the idea of being able to run some sweet old school games on it! By the way picked up all the Ys games for it(except Ark of Napishtim as I couldn't find it), got all 3 of the Xseed releases in premium edition form. Loving Ys I so far. Next few games I'm going to pick up are Tomb Raider and Lemmings, possibly LocoRoco as well as it looks like a lot of fun. Not finding Napishtim is probably for the best. If you've got a PS2, shoot for that version first. I heard that the latest of the latest CFW has a built-in UMD ripper, though, so if you get the PSP UMD of Napishtim, rip it. Running it off of the memory card is supposed to increase performance and playability substantially.
  21. The PSP 3000 core pack is $130. Yeah, you'll have to spend a bit more to get a memory stick and a game or two, but you should be able to keep it under $200. Do you like Ys games? Metal Gear games? Other games the PSP has? Do you feel like doing some CFW stuff so you can play emulators? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then the PSP is for you.
  22. Hopefully it will suck less than the first NXE. I miss the blades dashboard.
  23. No, don't cut the cart's tabs. Cut the console's tabs. Cutting the cart's tabs is dumb.
