curious if any other buyers of these joysticks have had any troubles ? I got both today and neither function properly, neither go to the right, and one of the 2 does not move up. pretty much the same thing I experienced with the 2 that were in the sealed 2 port system I bought last month... 2 non functional are bad enough, but now 4.. yikes..

then I feel real bad about what I paid for my pair from this guy, but hey I wanted them and NOS is NOS ... find others once this guy is out of them...I seldom see them pop up new in the box. my recently purchased sealed NOS 2 port system [mexican made controllers] I'd bet are the same as the loose used stamped mexico having rev.7 in it. your taiwan should be the same as the taiwan controller I rebuilt last week that had a rev8 flex circuit in it... rev 8's have the carbon tracers on the flex circuit... chances are you will be rebuilding what you bought in short order as the carbon ones seem to crap out real fast ,thats been my experience with them anyway. I dont care for rev 8 flex circuit. give me 9 or at the least 7

a couple weeks ago on ebay there was a 7800 that had a device where as one could load 5 games at once, I assume it connects at the right side? what is the proper terminology for this add on , and is there anything i need to look for serial number wise while looking for one. I wanted the one on ebay badly, but was so over spent on new old stock 5200 stuff at the time, my wife would have bashed me with a frying pan had I won it !. I love the idea of that option...its an itch I gotta scratch !

5200 connection to tv, anything new out there ?
peedenmark7 replied to peedenmark7's topic in Atari 5200
I checked more than one around here with no luck. radio shack never has what I am looking for , further the warm bodies they employ , sledom have any product knowledge and it seems the guy that does is always off that day or out to lunch when I come in. last time i stopped in they didnt even have the 300/75 rf adapters I pictured above.. how tandy corp makes a dime is beyond me... -
I believe that the 5200 was Atari's zenith. love or hate the controllers they are the most advanced , and once you understand and get the hang of them , the 26/7800 digital sticks are a joke, at least to me. give me joypads ! there are some fantastic games specific to 5200 as well as the carry overs rehashed from 2600, there's a couple of lame ones for 5200 too. just looking at the 5200 and its accessories ,it's clear that the most attention to detail and design was paid to this system. I remember when my younger brother brought his home in '83 [ 4 port *] we just sat and looked at it, gawking at the black and stainless looking panel, marveled at the controller storage cover, even the trakball was so much better than the 2600 version and the vcs adapter was a win-win ! Truly a Ferrari compared to the "dated" almost Edsel looking 2600 console. plug it in , play , and really fully appreciate what Atari had sold you !!! After doing a bit of reading it's clear the 5200 controllers can be re-built to fully function better than factory built ones, though I'll reserve judgment until after the parts arrive and surgery is completed Hey, I love my 7800, but even with improved graphics, the games lack in so many ways, as i think Atari was not only in the midst of a real identity crisis getting away from what put them on the map [shooter games] thus shifting in desperation mode to compete with sega and other upstarts with games leaning toward mario bros themes [cool], but to me now, it seems the mindset was get it packaged and out the door. My only regret in purchasing a 7800 , was not holding out for a bundle pack equipped console. Neat idea as removing carts with one hand from the 7800 is no easy task. I bought a new boxed system so thats what was available. I should add that the 7800 pro-stick fire buttons flat out suck. again, I prefer the joypads for certain games. Having almost every 7800 game save for proto's and a few rarities, the only games i really play are impossible mission [bummer you cant finish it] Xevious which is addicting, and galaga though better graphics than its previous system namesakes, is still sort of a turd game by 1987-89 standards. I like midnight mutants as well, but that game ticks me off !!! Buy a 5200. if you can swing it, buy a reconditioned one, if not a brand spanking NOS one. Most 52's that I have seen for sale are beat up, and though they may work, having minty clean stuff is half the fun . I'm really not into buying stuff that little billy wiped his boogers and PBJ sa'mich on.

Anyone know where I can get controller extension cables?
peedenmark7 replied to stringfellow's topic in Atari 5200
best electronics in san jose cali. has 12' extension cables. -
Does anybody Wes Craven's '89 movie, Shocker ? the main character being horace pinker a maniacal killer that gets the chair, but comes back to wreak havoc . I always thought this would be a great idea for a 7800 game, especially if they could make horace dive through television sets, to get to the next room or levels ! It has all the making for a classic vid. bad guy, prince saving the princess kinda theme...find the necklace in the pond...

C-380 in cream/gray and the wood grain c380 with a few variations of the same games. playing it right now ! -
major brain fart... I pulled my original one out, and then remembered sound on the tv has to be turned off.. sound comes from the speaker built in.. duh. my c380 collection is complete. gray one and a wood grain one !

hi guys, I recently bought what i thought was ONLY an original Atari c-380 power adapter. the box showed today and the seller gave me everything ! Now I knew before hand that the adapter was fine and the game was bad, hence not wanting it. but upon plugging it in, the game does fully function. the paddles seem to flicker or drag a bit when they are moved left/right, but the picture is otherwise perfect. the problem is I am getting a back ground noise like the game is on the wrong channel, major white noise.. but the picture is perfect and the games sounds are there. could this be a bad RF cable ? any ideas would be appreciated as since I have it, I might as well try to get 'er up and running ! thanks .

5200 connection to tv, anything new out there ?
peedenmark7 replied to peedenmark7's topic in Atari 5200
that looks pretty nice for the money! it appears as though all I need over and above that switch would be a few bnc to coax adapters ? so basically this has an input for cable or satellite, then the out to tv, and 2 extra inputs ? Thats right. You can put cable/satellite on input A, and then use RCA to Coax adpters on inputs B and C for the game systems. excellent ! gonna order this one tomorrow ! thanks for your help ! -
1] keystone kapers 2] asteroids 3] breakout 4] pitfall 5] freeway 6] battle zone 7] seaquest 8] river raid 9] jungle hunt 10]space invaders

5200 connection to tv, anything new out there ?
peedenmark7 replied to peedenmark7's topic in Atari 5200
Ive done that in the past and it does work great, but I believe I only have one set of line inputs into my '89 panasonic hi-fi VCR. so I am always having to monkey around with changing out cables, especially with the 5200 having its rf cable hard wired. I suppose I could get a Y cable so both the 78 and 52 hooked up ? the big problem is, I dont have the VCR at my primary residence. I have a few other systems, p1,game cube and the like which I run into the rca jacks on the tv. since getting a bose LS-48 system I sort of like the games run through the surround sound, the drag is it only has one auxiliary inputs on it, so i leave the newer games hooked to that. sadly my Atari stuff gets only tv surround.. I'd love to hear 5200 gyruss or defender through the bose ! -

5200 connection to tv, anything new out there ?
peedenmark7 replied to peedenmark7's topic in Atari 5200
I looked on ebay last night and there is a guy selling kits to convert from the computer cable to RCA jacks, [sorry I dont know the exact lingo] which is EXACTLY what I'd like, BUT I'd have to mod my 7800 housing to do so. The mopd is easy enough, but I'm not real up on chopping up a brand new NOS console for that. I asked about the 5200 but no response as of yet. I suppose the same would hold true for the "S" video kit for 5200 , and after the proverbial a$$ raping I took on that purchase I am not going to chop that up either. one would think that a computer guru would have come up with a simple box that sits on your tv stand has 3-4 factory atari inputs on one side, and on the other side converts the signal to the RCA jacks , rather than using the main feed into the tv with a signal splitter. one could then simply push buttons for each system, they would like to have viewed/played on the screen. Is that even an electronic possibility ? -
the rev. 8 cards are junk IMHO. carbon tracers have to be very fragile. like I said I was able to fix one of the rev7's with that ED-112, but how long will that last ? and one of the fire button tracers is open somewhere so it didnt fully solve the problem. but otherwise brought it back to life flawlessly ! the other rev7 controller i have has broken tracers all over the place.nothing works and aluminum is sticking out of the mylar in several spots, so that a total rebuild anyway. I am buying 4 sets of gold rev9 aftermarket cards along with the fancy gold buttons today. I want to play games, not fix controllers if what this guy claims about them is true, I'll be ecstatic ! this was an interesting experiment though.. if you have a controller that's just acting up now and again, clean the contacts and try the ED-112 trick. it may work long term. the product description claims it can be painted on to rubber and plastic with good adhesion and long term success.

I dont have any revision 9's here just yet, but 7 compared with 8 is night and day. the 8 looks beefier and the paths are a dark carbon looking schematic rather than the coppery look of the 7. not that it is any better becuase the one with rev. 8 is way dead. I tried flipping everything around swapped parts out of other controllers already, and its that particular spot thats bad on the flex. so lokos like I am spending some coin to rebuild 3 controllers. they are nice otherwise, tight, no slop like so many have.

5200 connection to tv, anything new out there ?
peedenmark7 replied to peedenmark7's topic in Atari 5200
please, do tell ! Ready to venture out if it's something I can buy locally. If I have to stay with what I have pictured and a simple 3-4 way coaxial signal splitter, so be it, but I'd prefer something as mentioned above. -
okay, Tested the controller with 2 games, Gyruss and Defender. On Gyruss the upper fire buttons are all you have, they both function as they should and the steering problems I had and that many complain about while playing this game are NON existent, steering is like actually better than my NOS joysticks after applying the electrodag 112. On Defender, the lower button is to fire, the upper for smart bombs. the LEFT side has only smart bomb function unless I really mash the button. paper clip proved that. Bad worn out button ? Either way I am ordering the rebuild kit with gold contacts for one controller to see if that's the end all be all. I dont wanna really mess around applying the 112 every now and again. this product was more a test than anything. I may order the other type with carbon triple contacts as well. Other than the gold on the flex circuit { I assume a repro ?} the factory rev.9 are the same mylar ? The joystick I am working on has the revision 7 flex circuit, Is 9 better ? If so, what is that difference? Of the 5] 5200 joysticks I currently have, the 2 that came with the NOS boxed/sealed system are mexican made. The ones I just bought are as follows: 1] taiwan made DOA, 2] USA made one being the ED-112 experiment , one partially functioned , the other DOA. Is there any way to date these by the codes? Controller codes>> Mexican: both are 22 3 B Taiwan: HH 373 [ REV>8 felx] USA: EP 113 and EP 033 [REV>7 flex]
