  1. I did some more testing with the Atari released Yars' Return today and there is definitely something wrong. I tried it in my original system and it played correctly. I let it run for two hours and there was no heat on the cartridge. I then put it in the 2600+ and had the same issues as before with only half the field working and overheating in under 20 minutes. I also had an old cart from a 2005 version that is a flickering nightmare, but it worked correctly in the original unit and 2600+. I left it in the plus for about an hour and there was no heating issue. It seems like some kind of load issue that is causing constant hits on the most recent cartridge and resulting in the game chip(s) heating up.
  2. I could only attack from the left as you described. I didn't take the time to find the manual, so thought this was normal.
  3. The Mandalorian enjoying the new 2600+ with Baby Yoda this morning.
  4. It doesn't load for me with the factory firmware.
  5. I spent yesterday showing one of my oldest friends the 2600+ and playing games all day. We had a blast remembering our favorite games and trying the new stuff he had never heard of. We did run into two games that had some issues: Fall Down - We could not get the two player mode to work because the right joystick wasn't recognized as active. We played Asteroids just prior, so it was operating correctly before and after this game. Maybe we missed something simple? Yars' Return - After playing for about 20 minutes the screen suddenly went blank and the loading/failing messages started. I pulled the cartridge out to re-seat it and noticed the cartridge was hot to the touch. This seemed odd as I don't recall that happening on any other cart. I touched the slot area and it didn't seem hot, so something in the cartridge was generating it. Rather than risking melting something in the cart, we moved on.
  6. Here is my list of what isn't working with the factory installed firmware on the 2600+. The first few items are categories than the carts are listed alphabetically. I'll try to refine this some more so that it can be more useful in identifying issues. The list is 86 lines. I mostly left off games that needed the special controllers as long as they loaded and would start, I'm hoping it is a priority to add support for the first 3 categories. 10. That's a good idea. I was going to start with a list of what doesn't work to help encourage Atari to work on more compatibility.
  11. Round 7 of Testing. 12. It loaded and was able to start. Until the keyboard controller is supported, it isn't playable.
  13. Round 6 of testing. Although a little exhausting going through all my carts, it is fun to play some games that I purchased many years ago but never played. Games that wouldn't play on my Sears Telegames or 2600+: Super Cobra Arcade Basic Programming Games that played on original hardware but not the 2600+: Rally Racer (Boots up but won't start) Zarkstars - Ground Force Zoltrix Space Rock Spike's Peak Double Ender (Boots up but won't start) The Gizzle Wap and the Strange Red Tree Space Cactus Canyon Games that worked on the 2600+: Blinky Goes Up Zarkstars - A Space Saga Ixion Arcade 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe A-Team Acid Drop Adventure Adventure Plus Air Sea Battle Arcade Pinball Asteroids Atari Video Cube Air Raiders Airlock Atlantis Bachelor Party Backgammon Bank Heist Alfred Challenge Alien Amidar Arcade Golf Alph Beam with Ernie Allia Quest Barnstorming Baseball Basic Math Basketball Cosmic Swarm Artillery Duel Single Ender Sir Lancelot Single Ender Motocross Racer Single Ender Artillery Duel Double Ender Chuck Norris Super Kicks Double Ender Ghost Manor Double Ender Pooyan Strategy X Sir Lancelot Double Ender Robin Hood Double Ender The Texas Chainsaw massacre Scuba Diver Alligator People Flash Gordon Time Warp Laser Volley Dragon Treasure Fast Eddie Miner 2049er Vol II The Lord of the Rings Double Dragon Ram It Spiderdroid Room of Doom Threshold Mr. Do's Castle Gas Hog X-Man (the left difficulty switch is used for pause) Mines of Minos Marine Wars Drive! 14. Round 5 of testing. I think I'll drop the list of carts that need cleaning, it works out to about 10% require it to work. Games that worked on original hardware but not on the 2600+: The Music Machine (Sound was bad and wouldn't start) Megaboy Bump 'N' Jump Burgertime Masters of the Universe - The Power of He Man Space Jockey (The cart didn't seem to want to go down far enough to connect and sit properly) Games I'm not sure worked properly on the 2600+: Cuttle Cart (Menu loaded, but assume it won't load games properly) Video Life (Appeared to work but not sure how to play it. Also, it kept running after the cart was pulled out and required a power cycle to reset 2600+) Magicard (Appeared to work but not sure how to input information) Sound Paddle (Appeared to work but couldn't figure out how to give inputs, maybe keyboard?) 15. Round 4 of testing. There will be a few duplicates that show up as my organization is not the best at the moment and I have various companies like Zellers and Brazilian carts. Games that worked on original hardware but not the 2600+: Lady Bug Arcade Escape from the Castle Circus Convoy (supposed to be fixed in next update) Unholy Mr. Do! 16. Two quick updates: I indicated that the "End" Homebrew worked on the 2600+, but it actually does not. I didn't mark it properly in my notes. After more cleaning and about 20 tries, I finally got the Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes working. It needed to be pushed all the way to the right for it to be read correctly.
  17. Round 3 of testing. No special controllers tested like driving, keypad, trackball, or quadtari's since they reportedly don't work yet. There was one game that wouldn't work on any system, which kind of gutted me, since it was part of my original collection: Sky Jinks (If I don't have a duplicate somewhere, I'll need to replace this) Games that worked on original hardware but not the 2600+: Qyx Grizzards Gorf Arcade RubyQ Scramble (Champ Games) Panic! 18. I'll give it another shot, I was surprised when it wouldn't work.
  19. Day two of testing. I should have mentioned in the first post that all games are NTSC unless indicated otherwise. Games that didn't work on the 2600+, but did on original hardware: Dragon's Descent (Screen was Garbled) Wizard of Wor (Champ Games) Tyre Trax Galagon Aardvark (Screen was Garbled) RS Boxing Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes Games that kind of worked but seemed to have issues on 2600+: Landfill - Seemed to play fine, but did not hear any sounds X3V0lux - The label indicated it worked with joysticks or paddles but neither option would work Zaxxon - The sound had a lot of static. Not sure if this is the way it was originally as my Telegames unit had the same sound Games that required cleaning to work on the 2600+: Riddle of the Sphinx Tutankham Word Zapper Games that worked but were finicky on how to insert the cart on both units. The only method that worked was to gently press in on the right side and then push the cart down from right to left. Pressure Cooker Private Eye Games that worked. Again I didn't test the trackball mode since it currently doesn't work. 20. Received my pre-order from Atari.com yesterday. I love it so far and hope the firmware updates come soon. I pulled out a bunch of carts today and started testing. I had a Sears Telegames 6 switcher also set up to test any carts that didn't work on the 2600+. I don't have a 7800 out at the moment and since they are homebrews I didn't expect them to work with the factory firmware. I'm using a OLED television with any filtering turned off to reduce possible lag. 7800 games I tried that didn't work: KC Munchkin Astro Blaster Bob Decrescenzo Collection There were 2 games that wouldn't work on the 2600+ or the Original unit. I vaguely remember this might be an issue with my Telegames model, so need to find a different unit to test these on. The Byte before Christmas Stay Frosty 2 Games that did not work on the 2600+ but did on original hardware, I think most of these are already known. Robotwar Load Runner Evil Magician II Millipede Track Ball (the garbled screen shot is below) (TB not tested as known to not work currently) The Pursuit of the Pink Panther Games that required cleaning to work on both units: King Kong Stone Age Games that worked on original hardware but needed cleaning to work on the 2600+ Laser Volley Lost Luggage H.E.R.O. (didn't see any issues that others have reported) Scuba Diver Atlantis - Cromax Imagic (Brazilian multi cart) Pac-Man / River Raid / Pitfall / Space Invaders Games that worked: 10 in 1 cartridge (I also tested these new carts on the Telegames with the new controllers, and they all worked) 4 in 1 paddle games Berzerk Enhanced (I still can't figure out what the robot says when I die?) Mr. Run and Jump A roach in Space Hunger Shark Joust Journey Escape (Had the distorted sound that others have reported) Jr Pac Man Jungle Hunt Kaboom! Kabul! Bobby is going home Road Duel This somewhat random selection of games comes out to a compatibility ratio of 90% on the 2600 side. I'll keep plugging away
  21. I normally avoid collectors editions, but one of the early suggestions of the SwordQuest games made me think about what would it take to get me to buy: 1. My estimate of retail price at $100 -$150, depending on what is included 2. All 4 games on a dip switch cart like the paddle games one 3. Include all 4 manuals and all 4 comic books (If Airworld doesn't have these yet, they should be created) 4. Work with Boss Fight Studios using their Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. 1/18 system to make Torr and Tarra action figures. The Earthworld outfits are probably the best for this package. There are figures like the Tarzan ones or Fantasy or Greek that could be used for the base. 5. Also have Boss Fight create the 5 prizes in 1/18 scale for the figures to play with. This way all of us get to pretend that we won.
