What's to prevent others from writing Atari 2600 games? Atari would have to police everyone. Even when the NES came out, Atari went around Nintendo's Seal of Quality.

You sound like you have experience with that.

I miss my Atari 400. It was my first computer and where I learned to program. I would love to have one again but I don't have a proper shrine to display it in.

I've been playing it the last couple of days. The game feels like a programming tutorial on moving sprites and looking for collisions. I think it could have been used as a base for a much better game.

I agree. I think Atari would have become a third party game distributor like Activision is now and not designed their own software anymore. I wonder if Coleco and Mattel would have done simular? These were both toy companies that would have dropped VGs at the first sign of a loss. Maybe they would have spun off those divisions and became distributors too? What I think is a better question is what if Atari distributed the NES (with the same lockouts) like Nintendo wanted in '84. Would the video game industry recovered? Of course, Atari wasn't Atari by then but what if they were?

Radar Lock is a game I'm looking to own. I play it all the time on stella and I need to add it to my collection.

I'd like to hear that too. I have a pretty negative feelings towards the man. I loved my Atari 520STFM,1040STe, TT and 130XE and was a huge supporter for the cause. I subscribed to every Atari magazine ever made and had a huge collection of software. I learned my lifelong career trade of programming on Atari computers. I owe a lot to that company. When the family started doing stupid things like buying Federated and poorly marketing the Jaguar and Lynx is when I pretty much jumped ship and bought a Gateway 486PC with Windows 3.11 on it. I swore I was never going to back a losing horse ever again. I guess indirectly is why I will never have anything to do with Apple. But that is another story.

So the Flashback 3 is just a repackaged Flashback 2. Lame.

I guess that is why I liked it. After a while, I could close my eyes and wipe out the invaders because I knew just how much to move to hit the bottom row of invaders. Laser Blast was like that too.

Just got Star Ship as part of a series of bonus games someone sent me from an ebay purchase. It looks ok but I would have never boughten it on my own. It takes a lot of imagination to figure out what is going on.

My favorite is still the first cartridge I owned - Space Invaders. (Combat doesn't count)

I was just wondering what is your opinion of Jack Tramiel and how he ran Atari? Were things better because of him?

Its funny how all that shovelware for the 2600 is considered rare and we have to collect it.

I've setup my new home office to do both. I have my 7800, colecovision, XEGS, Dreamcast and PS2 all connected to the TV. I also have an HDMI cable going over the ceiling to connect the computer to the TV. Any games I don't have I emulate. Its great for trying that unique game and then finally buying it on the marketplace.

I say we name it Octopus!
