Not great, but it's a score! 18 For the record, this was more fun, and more challenging, than I thought it would be. Always thought this was 'edutainment' but I grudgingly admit it seems to be a game.

Question: once you've completed the 'word' how do you get the game to recognize it and move you to the next? Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it does after wasting all my time. I can't play if I can't move from round one to round two and round three!

Got around to playing again: 56400 is an improvement, but no patch. Not sure why, but I'm digging this less than most Activision games. Must just be my weird week. Also, they kept faking me out on the far right, and sneaking three in on the left before I could recover.

So I did the math: At level 8 for both mogwai and gremlins, a perfect run, catching all mogwai + bonus and shooting all gremlins = 13,520 per round (4 runs of mogwai, all hamburgers, and gremlin attack). So, to break 999,999, you would need 74 consecutive perfect rounds. Every mogwai missed costs you 370 points (170+200 hamburger bonus). If you were to miss only one per round, you would need 76 times through to roll. If you miss an average of three mogwai each round (four waves of 8 each time), you're looking at 81 rounds to roll. This is an endurance game at that level. By this standard, I made it through roughly 60 rounds, since I started at level 1, where rounds scoring is lower for longer in the gremlin attack phase. Close, but no cigar.

Oh, you don't have to change the rules because I'm grumbling. kinda happy to win this week

I find the score breakdown here interesting. The mass of scores never reached that first extra life shelf of 20k. Then there's a big jump of players to got that free frog and leapt higher. Above them are the select few who doubled their freebies and leapfrogged tens of thousands. Obvious correlation with 1up programming.

I know the controls are squirrelly, but I've always found this oddly charming, and I'm not sure they even manufactured paddles in '84... they certainly didn't program any games for them, even obvious stuff like the later breakout knock-off Off the Wall.

Sorry for not replying. I've been having surprise episodes of paralysis that ended up with me spending the last few days in the hospital, sans Atari I would totally love credit for 163,000! I think I know the other digits, but without proof, I don't want to edge someone out of a higher rank by a couple hundred points in case I was wrong about my own exact score... For the record, I did get all the people/rings/animals/treasure rescued in that run, for happy bonus time Hopefully I'll be discharged tomorrow and I'll get back to playing this week

Finally beat the game for the first time, 163-something-something-something, went to grab my phone from where it was charging, came back to a fried screen. Sounds like Q*bert coming from my mouth!
