  1. Sad, they seem to have gone bankrupt, I guess.

Their site and the Beta Phase Games name is up for grabs with GO DADDY.COM I saw the other day...

Many people still wanted copies of Hot Dog, Relief Pitcher, Lynx Poker, Road Riot 4WD, Alien vs Predator, Eye of the Beholder and a few other games they were still promising up till Christmas 2021, I believe. I have never heard about them coming out last year as promised.

Did anyone here receive anything at all last year? Just curious.

  2. What happened to the releases?

Did they happen at all? I never saw the site up again to try and order anything at all. I tried the site and Go Daddy says it is available to take possession of.

Did these happen again for the Christmas 2021 season as was hoped for?!?!

  3. @4ever2600 Yeah, but that comes off a bit like the last time around with people not getting the games they wanted or were supposed to get. That doesn't bode well for Beta Phase at all, either. They had better get it right this time by keeping people happy by having these made to order or 'at need' or something. If people feel shorted again, they won't trust them if there are future releases to be seen.I think, they'll burn their bridges permanently with many. Many thought Beta Phase had closed their doors and everything was over for releases. The site not working is making many think things are fishy with this again. Just saying what I see and I think others are seeing here reading the posts. I'm losing interest in it. ) : ) : Not good.

  4. Thanks to Harry Dodgson a new game enters the Releaselist:

    SPACE BATTLES!

It's an UP TO 8 PLAYERS PVP MAINEVENT!

Don't miss this spaceship battlezone for the Lynx :-)

The first SPACE BATTLES World Championship Tournament will be at the ejagfest 2017 in germany :-)

What happened to the 16 players that it originally did? I heard that part was fine years ago before Harry quit on it.

  5. I think that's just a multiplayer comLynx option. I've seen that screen before...somewhere...perhaps on Harry's site.

That is just what you see during the LGSS Screen syncing up the Lynx units. You get something similar using your Othello cart and an LGSS cart together.

  6. The thing I remember about this game is, that it reminds me of playing around with Bumper Cars for fun at an Amusement Park when you are fighting over the 'orb' or 'crystal' to get it your respective goal from your opponent(s) or AI players.

I was looking forward to this and Geo Duel being released that never came from Atari. That was sad.

  7. I was told it seemed to play slow.

Not with single or multiplayer in my experience with it ever. The game is rather quick and fluid. I got all my copies back in 1996, and was very happy to get them! I loved it from the first time I turned it on with a cart in the port! ( :

Perhaps, it slows down with 4 players comlynxed up, haven't done it with but 3 yet. I doubt it is worse with four, though. If you find out, tell me.

  8. It should be noted that Hyperdrome isn't smooth as it was still in beta testing when Atari dumped everything.

I've had 4 copies of this for many years now and had no issues doing 3 player comlynx on it several times with others. I rather enjoyed the game myself and wondered why Atari never released it. Atari said, it was "unplayable" for some reason. How did they come up with that? The game I have is very playable and fun for me. It also seems to be pretty complete or finished to me, I've found no bugs in it at all. I played it quite a bit, too! ( : ( :

  9. First of all I'm sorry if this sounds a bit too much like self promotion, but I still think it fun enough to share here.

To not let my collection of classic game consoles crumble into dust without them ever begin used, every Sunday night I'm live streaming classic consoles on twitch using real hardware where possible, which is at least 90% of the time.

Yesterday I did a livestream of a number of my Lynx games. I don't think it's been done before, at least nothing that I could find. The stream is obviously over now but you can find the recording here (of course when you're there, you're welcome to join my channel ;) ). Please ignore the awful commentary and the coughing, I have a terrible cold. Capturing Lynx footage turns out to be a pain in the ass.

In the end, I made a simple camera rig from Lego Technic so I could move the Lynx about without throwing the picture out of whack (only takes a tiny nudge). Surprisingly this setup worked pretty well. The rig is not as stiff as I would've liked, so you can see a slight jiggle now an then. The overall effect is pretty good though , considering the poor screen my Lynx has. As you can see in the photo below, I mounted the camera above the screen. I had adjust the contrast for this, making it impossible to see the screen from a regular angle. I had to play all the games from the preview window of the streaming software. For a camera I used my regular webcam. I found that you really need one with manual focus, because you need to defocus slightly for a decent picture. This pixels of the Lynx display are so big, with autofocus on the camera focuses on the edges the pixels, creating a very unique but unusable picture.

As the camera was mounted off-centre, there's quite a big variance of contrast in the image. I will try to remedy this with a new rig that will allow the camera to be centred above the screen. Not sure if this can be done with Lego, without it getting too bulky. Also the camera picks up a flicker that is not normally visible, it seems to be an artefact of having the contrast of the webcam dialled to 11.

So in all, a fun experiment with room for improvement!

    Cool idea. "A" for effort. :) ;)

  10. I played it through, meaning I raced all tracks without my continues running out yesterday.

But: After the last race the screen just turned black and I had to turn off the Lynx. Is this normal, or did I accidently move the flashcard or something (the Lynx is very picky to have cards sit just right)?

If it's normal I guess the game wasn't quite finished as I would expect a Congratulations screen or something, and a way to get back to the title screen without turning the unit off.

You have to come in first on every race to see the ending, that's the rub and the bug in the title really. It supports 2 player

comlynxing too, anyone else use it?It's fun doing it. :)
