RGB2VGA: customizing a GBS-8200 for a cleaner low-lag image
wildstar87 replied to mytek's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I ordered my boards from OSHPark the other day, so am joining the club. In the meantime I am wiring up the VBXE to the GBS-8200, am finding it difficult to figure out where the Yellow and Gray wires are supposed to go? VBXE has a RGB control pin, but the two wires left to be hooked up are HSync/VSync. I've tried to look up connection diagrams, but am not finding what I need. Any help would be appreciated. -

Just PM'd you, it was my fault, not downloading the file correctly from Github. -
Ultimate Cart (SD multicart) - Technical thread

I'd like to build one of these, however the files on Github don't seem to agree with OSHPark. Also tried importing the eagle files into Kicad, but also got errors. Anyone else have these issues? I haven't tried the Santosp version yet though. -
XL/XE Keyboard ribbon socket - replacement?
wildstar87 replied to morelenmir's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
This looks pretty good too https://www.amazon.com/XLX-30Pin-Rainbow-Ribbon-30Wire/dp/B076M1FGLZ/ref=asc_df_B076M1FGLZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=228763672776&hvpos=1o4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=267877108060070895&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033277&hvtargid=pla-387053482768&psc=1 You can just zip 6 conductors off. The price isn't bad. 16ft more than enough.. -
I did read the README, hence my confusion. I'm flashing a 1088XEL. The Firmware.rom is the smallest, but looking at the Firmware.ATR, it is the biggest. I want to do everything. I was also wondering how to change the config.sys on the cartridge? Also wondering about the Plugins folder, are these already integrated, or do I have to do that somehow?

Is that the one I should be flashing, instead of the 1088 full?

I had a question on one of the files in the zip file. Under the ATR directory, there is a firmware.atr file that is much bigger than all the others. Give what's in the readme, this is supposed to be a minimal image, that doesn't update anything else. I'm wondering why it's so much bigger than all the rest of the files?

1088XEL Atari ITX Motherboard DIY Builders Thread
wildstar87 replied to Firedawg's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I finally muddled my way through it. The problem was I was mounting the Uflash.xex directly as D1:, but then Uflash couldn't see anything on any other drives mounted. When I mounted the Full 1088XEL .ATR file, then I could start Uflash.xex in Spartados, and also could see the firmware update. Which brings me to the question I was hinting to before. It seems that SDrive needs a specific image or executable mounted to see it as a drive. I thought you could mount just a directory so you could browse the drive and use files like it was a floppy/hd. I'm guessing that isn't the case, since it didn't seem to allow me to just mount the folder I wanted with the firmware in it.- 1,740 replies

1088XEL Atari ITX Motherboard DIY Builders Thread
wildstar87 replied to Firedawg's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I just powered up my 1088XEL the other day. Other than missing the jumpers for NTSC/OSC, it powered right up to Spartados. The U1MB has the older firmware, not the updated one from FJC. I am familiar with how to use with a standard floppy drive (from 30 years ago), but in my case here, I have an SDrive-Max, and am trying to update the U1MB firmware, and I'm a bit confused. I can get Uflash loaded, but I can't then display the contents of the same directory to select the firmware. I'm sure it has something to do with having to mount an .ATR, or something. Do I have to create a disk image of the firmware to mount it and see it as a drive and how would I do that? This stuff is all new to me. I'm sure its just a disconnect on my part, missing some piece of information. Any info would be most appreciated.- 1,740 replies

1088XEL Atari ITX Motherboard DIY Builders Thread
wildstar87 replied to Firedawg's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks, on another note, I'm toying with the idea of using a 600XL keyboard as the keyboard for this. Is there a relatively simple way to interface the keyboard with the 1088XEL, or would I basically have to create a PS/2 interface for the keyboard?- 1,740 replies

I remember seeing some tests before I put in the Atari ICs, can you elaborate, so I don't have to crawl the entire thread? -
Printers Used With Your Atari 8-bit: Then & Now

My first printer, had an NLQ mode. After I sold my 8-bit stuff (which I dearly regret now), it stuck around on my PC stuff for quite awhile. -

This is more of a curiosity questions, I always wondered why Atari never came out with OEM branded monitors, since obviously some of them have monitor ports, and they did it for the ST. It's funny in a stupid way, that a lot of us went with the Commodore 1702, because it was decent, compatible, and relatively inexpensive. Almost every one I have ever seen (including my own), lost/busted the front door on the monitor.

Open Source Atari XE keyboard (130XE/800XE style)
wildstar87 replied to Matej's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I've been looking at this myself. I don't currently have an A8 computer, but have been looking to get back into it, I used to have a 600XL 256k, and a stock 130XE. Does any one have any pictures of the keyboard that has been disassembled? -
LittleJoe, do you know the difference betweent the 2.2F and the 2.2G revision? The parts list only lists 2.2F on LHE's site, but I'm seeing a 2.2G rev number on the PCBs, and some references on his website.

I've been looking at this thread for the last few days, I'm looking at probably building this or the LHE mod. Would I be better off with an FMS6400, or FMS6406, or does it really matter at all?
