  1. I'd place Windows 7 and Linux Mint Debian on the same level. They're both solid, look nice, and give me little problems. I don't think they quite got to the level of Windows 2000, though, which was my favorite. It was as horrible as everyone said it was, and then some. I was too young at the time to really pay attention to what anyone was saying about it, but when I installed it, I was aghast. Not day #1, not day #2, but after blue screen after blue screen by day #3 I knew I missed Windows 98. I soon scrapped it when a co-worker gave me Windows 2000, after listening to my complaints, and I instantly knew that I made the right choice in dropping that PoS OS. Now, I think Vista wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be, and certainly not nearly as bad as WinME. It wasn't great, but it gave me far less trouble than ME ever did.
  2. I always just sort of assumed that all Puyo Puyo games were exactly the same, so I never upgraded after the Genesis one. Then again, I thought the same about Puzzle Bobble, and although core gameplay is always the same, there are subtle differences. Curious, what makes it PP Sun so outstanding?
  3. Look for Rakugakids (and pick an extra copy for me) and if you're into shmups Dezaemon 3D is a super cheap one for the N64. There's also a Bomberman game unreleased in the states which is supposed to be the best of them all (pick up an extra copy for me too). That's about it, though for the N64.
  4. I think the main difference is that people were buying PS3s for their BluRay player, but Wii-U sales are struggling (although not *that* bad). Nintendo is thus trying to push the consumer to the Wii-U by abandoning the Wii early. The Wii-U's backwards compatibility with the Wii makes it a rather attractive option.
  5. The NA scammer also asked for Paypal. Also, look at the similarities: first post on a forum, same game, consolenamefan[atic]number (i.e. atarifanatic12, nintendofan9), never posted anywhere else under this name. But the smoking gun is that the seller just took the pictures from this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpRynwXd7F0 This is 100% a scam.
  6. "The member opcode cannot receive any new messages"
  7. The website says to subscribe, not send money, so really it's just a matter of waiting.
  8. The video should have shown the changes in the kids life as well. Not just cosmetic/relationships.
  9. Another RFGen'er here. I've even added a few variants/uncatalogued games myself. It's the best system for that sort of thing. Edit: The only problem I've noticed with it is that lately it's been extremely slow to load pages. Anyone know what's up with that?
  10. Perfect time for me to be finally able to afford homebrews!
  11. I think for me playing games is indeed an escape into childhood, but that doesn't mean I only play my childhood games, or even consoles. I'd be far too limited to do so. I never had a Saturn growing up, for instance, and now it's one of my favorite consoles. I missed out on 99% 8-bit games, and now they're my absolute favorite. I agree with you about vintage computing. But even there, the love of that old hacking is nostalgic. Not that there is anything wrong with all that. I mean, I'm an ancient historian, so I get it.
  12. You seem to be implying that nothing stupid happened before...
  13. That's the first thing I thought. Looks like a hack of the SNES All-Stars. The sprites look weird, though.
  14. Bumping this because 2 pages of discussion isn't nearly enough. Demon Attack on the 2600 and C64 really feel like two different games, and they're both worth it in my opinion. If I had to choose one of the two, I would definitely choose the 2600 version, though.
  15. Just a quick clarification: I was referring specifically to a graphical charm, because your point about the charm of early game mechanics absolutely stands. But I'm sure that has to do with my nostalgia for that period (as well as major graphical improvements, the NES and SMS being two of the best looking 8-bit systems, not counting the PC Engine with it's 16-bit GPUs). Some people already consider the PS2 "retro", while I'm sitting here not even considering the PS1 retro. Now that's just some ass-dickery.
  16. I've definitely seen this, and think it's quite common. I think most, when they see some of the gold on Commodore 64, can learn to appreciate it, but there's a charm to NES that the 2600 and later early 80s consoles lack. There's also the lack of mainstream knowledge and cultural references that even plagues the Master System which means that the younger crowd won't be as drawn to them. I don't get irritated, but I am irritated by their fascination with their fascination with the systems I grew up with. Why can't they just play the latest stuff so the older stuff will be cheaper! (Just kidding, of course. It's probably more we than they who are driving up the price!)
  17. Sure, sure. But if someone is asking about acquiring another console, I'm sure "emulation" doesn't need to be said. It's already understood, unless it truly wasn't worth the effort.
  18. If emulation were an answer, no one would need any hardware. They'd just buy a PC and hook it up to their TV.
  19. Yes! My short list would be: Galaga Dig Dug Joust Robotron 2084 Personally, I wouldn't want to see any NES games ported to the 7800, especially good NES games. Instead, I'd much rather play some excellent homebrews that developers now want to create. I want a Zelda clone and more shooters. It doesn't have to be Zelda or Gradius, but rather new titles with fresh ideas. I'd like the 7800 to get the games it should have got in the 80s.
  20. If you like Tempo, there were sequels on the Game Gear and Saturn.
  21. Works for me. Do you have any web techs disabled?
  22. Did I understand the video correctly in that the demo video is the complete gameplay?
  23. Snatched up R-Types from him. Came quickly and quietly. Thanks again!
  24. Any of you fine gents would like to add a few more thoughts? http://atariage.com/forums/topic/213089-which-version-of-2nd3rd-gen-games-is-best/
