  1. The first thing I thought of is the Cruis'n series for the N64. All three made it to the system, but be warned, they are all terrible. I think World was the least terrible, but all three were thoroughly boring. There are way better. You would like e.g. Diddy Kong Racing.
  2. I guess the question I really have is, is it worth it to pick up an XEGS for any reason? I already own a 7800, but I am entirely unfamiliar with Atari 8-bit computers.
  3. I'm allowed to have one when we have a house and not a tiny NYC studio. I do dream of a day when I can own my own Galaga, Centipede, MKII, TMNT, Robotron, some fantasy beat-em-up and some other shmup, not sure which two I would want.
  4. As we mentioned in the other threads, go instead for a cheaper 7800 (just avoid Best Electronics, they're sitting on stock and hoping a sucker will buy). You'll have the small but excellent 7800 library available to you, all of which are cheap, except just a couple, plus the entire 2600 library, which is likewise dirt cheap. I'd say start there and then work your way to ColecoVision. If you're digging Genesis, you might want to also look at the NES, SNES, and Saturn, which are increasingly more expensive respectively.
  5. That's still twice more than I paid for mine, and I got a nice bundle of 7800 and 2600 games to go with it. Also, wasn't op's particular 7800 that he had in mind already composite modded? That'll add to the price.
  6. 2600 is indeed 8bit. And the C64 sometimes has better graphics than the NES, but it definitely comes down to games and media. I've seen some great C64 games that look more archaic than some of the better NES games.
  7. Oops, yeah, I haven't played Doom II in a long while, I guess.
  8. The Famicom was released less than a year after the ColecoVision, 5200, and Vectrex. Why is it a "later generation"?
  9. Bought a few games from Austin. Basically what wallydawg said is true: quick shipper, great prices, excellent condition.
  10. I'll second Mischief Makers and Doom 64 (which is a slightly different version of Doom II), and also add Ogre Battle 64 and Bust a Move 2/99. Rayman 2 is also great, but better on the Dreamcast imo.
  11. Looks fantastic! Definitely put me down for one.
  12. That's the one. That said, it's not so bad. I definitely didn't think it was junk, even if it wasn't Pocky and Rocky.
  13. Are these games mostly 80s, 90s, or post 2000?
  14. I don't have any homebrew games, so I can't say on that end, but if you're into arcade action, the 7800 has some worthwhile games. That said, it's impossible to really compare the 16-bit generation, or even the NES with it's illegal monopoly, with the 7800. I also want to make a note about my LCD TV: it doesn't accept my 7800's RF connection at all. Definitely get a CRT. I prefer a smaller one - feels like it did when I played Atari as a kid.
  15. Alleyway (GB) Balloon Kid (GB) Centipede (7800)
  16. This is me right now. I will, eventually, try to acquire a Lynx and maybe one of the Atari 8-bit computers, though I just don't know which one to get yet. I have no interest in the Jaguar, and not enough interest in the 5200 to make a purchase worthwhile.
  17. I'll second this. Beyond Pac-Man Collection, Robotron 2084 and two-player competitive or co-op on games like Centipede really make it worthwhile. The 7800 is all I've been playing lately. As far as game recommendation goes, for the 2600, most of the classics have already been listed, but I'll reiterate with a solid list of Amidar, Berzerk, Circus Atari, Demon Attack, Jungle Hunt, Kaboom!, Kangaroo, Keystone Kapers, Megamania, Millipede, Missile Command, Phoenix, Pitfall!, Pitfall 2, Pole Position, Riddle of the Sphinx, Solar Fox, Solaris, Spider-Man, Turmoil, Venture, and Yars' Revenge. For the 7800, check out not only the homebrews, but also Asteroids, Centipede, Dark Chambers, Dig Dug, Food Fight, Galaga, Joust, Mario Bros., Pole Position II, Robotron 2084, and Tower Toppler.
  18. I only have for games that I want to do well and don't think will otherwise, like e.g. Wii RPGs. I don't think I'll get either of these consoles. I don't even have a 360 or PS3, and I'm still on the fence with those, so at this point I'm just writing off the XBone and PS4 completely. I think I'll stick with my computer, my phone, the Ouya, and the 3DS for 9th generation gaming. I have hundreds of retro games to keep me more than busy.
  19. You can buy it right now on ebay for under $30.
  20. I still don't know who's dumb enough to buy these obvious fakes... The "sucker born every minute" quip is out of date. These days, with a population of 7 billion, it must be several a second. "403 Forbidden Access to this resource on the server is denied!"
  21. What I own and recommend: Donkey Kong Country Returns Goldeneye 007 Ivy the Kiwi? Last Story Mario Kart Wii Metroid Prime Trilogy Muramasa: The Demon Blade New Super Mario Bros. Wii Okami Pandora's Tower Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Xenoblade Chronicles I'm also selling a Metroid Prime Trilogy and a Xenoblade if you're interested, cheaper than you can get at GameStop.
