  1. No need to be a rude prick about it. There's nothing wrong with offering opinions and advice.
  2. That would be the Classic Gaming forum. General topic non-Atari chatter. Then, inside that it is broken down into other retro consoles of the same general generation. I think it's a pretty logical layout. No tangled mess that I perceive. Well, under Classic gaming there is the NES high score club, and under High Scores club there is the NES high score club... That's what I was referring to.
  3. As an outsider looking in, the sheer amount of traffic here is a bit daunting, and the sub-forums a tangled mess. Why not just a general non-Atari retro game subforum?
  4. From what I got from the article is that people with addictive personalities should stay away from simple games (I don't think "stupid" is the right word, especially when he lumped chess in with the rest of them). Sounds like good advice to me. I do however disagree with his definition. How much more complicated is Space Invaders or Pac-Man than Tetris? I would say that the very foundation of games are short and simple, and only with the increase of technology and time have complexities grown. You're so cool. Also, this part is especially true and really disappointing at the same time:
  5. ^ What, no warp zone?! Also, at 5:00, Mario falls into lava but doesn't die.
  6. An Atari 7800 and these 7800/2600 games: Galaga, Robotron 2084, Pitfall, Joust, Missile Command, Pinball, Asteroids, Choplifter, Hat Trick, Mario Bros, Combat, Jungle Hunt, Frogger, Pole Position II. I'm psyched. This is my first Atari system in 2 decades.
  7. Looking for Donkey Kong and Centipede for the 7800, preferably both from the same shipper. Can anyone help me out?
  8. I don't think it's possible that I could ever pare it down to just one. I could get rid of the Dreamcast and the Saturn, I can say good-bye to the GameCube, but I'd go crazy if I only had just one game to play. I'd probably get a Wii and just have Mario Kari Wii for the multiplayer experience. But I would be generally depressed if the rest had to go.
  9. It's a shame you can't select it from the menu anymore, but it's good to have a working link still. I hope they never abandon it!
  10. I wonder if they'll take it down from Google Maps as soon as it's no longer April 1st anywhere...
  11. ^Sounds like every political thread in every forum ever.
  12. That sidebar bothered me tremendously, until one day in 2003 I found out how to get past it. Just go to http://www.digitpress.com/forum/ and you won't see it. I have an even more direct link: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?11-Classic-Gaming Honestly, I don't know how someone can talk crap about DP's layout and theme when it's customizeable. People complain about the Virtual Boy look, but you can change the theme in your settings! If you don't like frames, go directly to the forum. It's not difficult. I also, although I stay only in the Classic Gaming/Classic Computing forums, have not at all seen any of the cliquishness or any braggadocio moderators. But then again, I'm not that frequent of a post, and only recently just started actually posting, so maybe I miss all that.
  13. Definitely the Vader here. I must not be old-fashioned enough, because the wood just doesn't cut it for me. I'd probably change my mind on that if all my other consoles were wood, though. And I never liked the look of Jr.
  14. It's impossible to determine since technically anyone can make a new ROM for a system.
  15. I'm happy to have the Xbox (original, not 360) as my most recent console. I will one day get a 360 for the shmups and maybe a PS3 and Wii, but why bother when I'm perfectly happy with the games I already have?
  16. Yep, I can confirm it's been hacked again. Don't do searches, including "new posts"!
  17. If you're so close to the shore, there's Barcade in Brooklyn too which has a great selection of classic arcades cabs.
  18. Probably so. But that's a different thing than stating outright that nobody called it that, ever. That's not quite what he said. Anyway, I say Nintendo or NES and Super Nintendo or Super NES. I can't fathom saying "ness" or "sness". Too weird.
  19. Got this Atari 2600 lot for $10: Amidar, Dig Dug, Golf (picture label), James Bond 007, Kangaroo, Keystone Kapers, Ms. Pac-Man, Pole Position, Popeye, RealSports Tennis, River Raid, Seaquest, Space Attack, Spiderman, Tennis, Turmoil, and Venture.
  20. Thats basically my take too. Its not a logical argument per se, but I also have a hard time looking at anything with a CD/DVD drive as retro. Too me retro is synonymous with carts. So the 3ds is retro also? Retro is always carts but carts are not always retro. So the SegaCD is not retro? You haven't thought this all the way out, have you?
  21. While I voted yes, my answer is a bit more complicated. In the definitions normally used, yes, Dreamcast is retro. However, when you look at gaming on a larger scale, it straddles the line between modern gaming and the transitional period. If it had lasted longer than 2 years, it would most definitely be cast in the same as the PS2 and Xbox, but as it stands, it almost feels like some sort of novelty, a prototype of sorts, rather than a full sixth generation console.
  22. Not the best, but Doom Troopers: Mutant Chronicles is a run-n-gun. You could also count the Star Wars games.
  23. I haven't purchased a SegaCD yet, but there are less than 5 games I want for it, so I may never. Likewise, there are less than 10 32X games, but I got the add-on for next to nothing, so I'm not worried. Same with the Wii, except I can't justify buying one yet. And there are two non-shmups for the 360 I want, and the only thing I can find for the PS3 is 3D Dot Heroes, but that's probably also due to some ignorance of mine. GBA, DS, and 3DS also each have under 10 games that interest me (not including retro compilations, of which I already have a crap ton of anyway), but I'm sure I can find more than 10 for the DS if I tried (I was unimpressed with 99% of what I've played on the GBA, and would probably only get it for Castlevania).
