I just finished reading it, and I'm pretty pleased with it. It filled me with a ton of things I didn't know about Intellivision. I was greatly delighted to know Lendino started playing his first video games on Intellivision. Also, I'm glad to see the wink to the homebrew scene, he covered a lot of things including how to play Intellivision on modern machines and linked to many important sites.
I can recommend it very much!

I got my cbs colecovision for Christmas.
for whatever reason, sometimes I get picture interference that goes to black and white.
happens every couple of hours, 9/10 it will retry and go back to a normal colour picture.
any ideas?
thank you
I would suggest trying another video cable. Also try switching to another channel with the small switch behind.

Hi guys.
It was pretty sad for me to discover in X that Jennell Jaquays passed away today (https://x.com/burgerbecky/status/1745019247955181958?s=20)
She was legendary, and while at Coleco, she was in charge of the Game Design for all the non-educational games, she recruited the art and design teams and creatively directed their efforts.
She pioneered the development cycle for the modern gaming companies, recruiting, training, and managing the people required for each game.
Along 3 years, Jennell produced most of the original Coleco games including Donkey Kong still bringing fun to all of us.
She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

Hey Nanochess, thanks! I'm actually following your book and trying to get some artwork transferred to the Intellivision as we speak!
Excellent! 😀✌🏻

IntyColor has the "-r output.bmp" option where it can write a file (named output.bmp in this case) to show you where are color clashes.

This looks like it will be a great resource for the community, thanks!
As someone that's been thinking of dipping my toes in Colecovision programming for a while now, I was just browsing the code and spotted this curious double call to vdp_no_interrupt. Is there some quirk of the hardware that requires it to be called twice? Is it in case there is an interrupt during the first call? Does the VDP interrupt flag need to be cleared by the first call before the interrupt is actually disabled in the second call? Thanks!
(And, by way of introduction since I don't believe we've ever spoken directly before: I was just appreciating your winning IOCCC submissions last week. All of your work is very impressive!)
In the case of a RESET, and as the RESET pin of the VDP isn't connected, you cannot be sure of the state of the VDP address register (written in two bytes, it could be just after the first byte). But this state is reset after a read of the VDP status register. So if the first call didn't make it right, the second call will correct it.
Thanks! I enjoyed the IOCCC at the time. I've fond memories of it.

BTW if someone tests this in Europe with a 50hz Colecovision, please provide me the CRC32 hash of the BIOS, it should appear as "Unrecognized BIOS".

Hi all.
A few days before Christmas, my good friend @Artemio convinced me to port the 240p Test Suite to Colecovision.
This test suite helps you to tune your TV, check backlit, synchro errors, aperture/width, color adjustment, etc. Not all tests of the original suite could be made with the TMS9928 but most are there, for example, the NTSC 75% luminance color bars aren't possible.
Also, I've added a few extras like a controller test and a CRC32 for checking the BIOS signature (SHA1 for MSX).
The full source code goes under GPLv2 as the original, and the most updated version will be available from: https://github.com/nanochess/240pTestSuite_colecovision/
For non-tech-versed users, I'll simply drop here the current ROM and manual.
Enjoy it!

Hi guys.
I have followed Jamie Lendino since PC Magazine and now on social networks, and I found he just wrote a book on Intellivision.
Needlessly to say, I've already ordered my copy from Amazon even if I had to pay extra shipping as it isn't currently available on Amazon Mexico https://www.amazon.com/dp/1957932104/A
I think it could be pretty interesting.

Nice effort for being your first game!
I put together a small manual:
1. Press keypad * to start the game.
2. Re-Pete will blink one light to start. Use the stick direction to illuminate the correct light (up for green, right for red, left for yellow, down for blue).
3. If you repeated the sequence correctly, Re-Pete will blink one extra light.
4. If you failed to repeat the sequence, Re-Pete will show your best score so far.

Very generous of you. Thank you! 👏👏👏

Not rare at all.
Console-only untested goes for $25-$30, and $60-$75 tested with controllers and some games.
You can get more if you have the original box in good state.

I played Princess Quest in live stream for almost 2 hours. I wasn't able to win my own game in 3 attempts 😜

Interestingly, Google Translate was able to successfully translate it but it had to ask the following question:
Caveat: I am definitely not an expert in Spanish. Google Translate is about as much as I know.
"Do" comes from portuguese. "De" would be the right word. But most probably the suggestion comes from a badly OCRed manual.
