I think they're putting way too much flouride in the water across the pond - crazy Brits. One of those shiney-tooth baaastids posted a Vectrex base-system + multi-cart the other day for $700US BIN. Sad part is - they ended up getting almost half that anyways.

If it doesn't go any higher, I was thinking about jumping on it. You could easily make a few bucks. There's at least 10 titles there that I've seen sell in $30-40 range on ebay; Hard Drivin', Awesome Golf, Blue Lightning, Boxed CA Games, Gordo 106, Xenophobe, War Birds, Super Off-Road, Lemmings, Super Asteroids/Missle Command, Dracula, Casino, Battlewheels. If you view the seller's breakdown, I'd say the list is actually low-balled. I shrink wrapped all my boxes and manuals, only to prevent them from yellowing. Why own a collection if you can't play it?

I believe I have a great idea for a Homebrew

I figured it out! If you can get these other 2 to work - that'd be cool, though! No way to delete a post, huh? -

I have a nice avatar of a spinning skull, but this thing is real picky! 150x150 pixels and 15K max! Maybe joeybastard could work some majic for me. Shoot me a PM or email if you ever stumble across this, joey. greggbiz@netscape.net [/img] -
So what't the deal with being able to burn PCB ROMs. I understand the files that handy run are called .img's. Is this a binary or hex image? I would imagine it being hex, and people just say binary synonomously? Why do you need the source code to burn it onto the ROM? Supply of PCB/ROMs is not the limiting factor. If a ROM has a UV window, then it can be erased and re-programmed. The 4/8Meg boards are a different story. If enough people showed interest (pre-order?) maybe we could get Lance at Video61 to do a small run of these coveted 4/8M boards. I'd like to see what all the hype is about behind EOB and Relief Pitcher!
-
Yeah, it is a sweet game. I've played the Handy version. I don't understand why any game available for Handy isn't easily burned onto a ROM - why is this?
-
I'm not sure I understand that 15-syllable word. If you mean other systems that were availble at the same point in time - then the Lynx kicks ass on all counts.
-
Yeah, you're right Road Riot is pretty complete - probably moreso than what Loopz is - my bad. I could almost say that Marlboro Go! is complete - if you count a single level game as being complete. It's only a glorified BMX from California Games, but the music and graphics are top notch. Are there any vendors selling PCB version of Lode Runner? I'd like to get my hands on a copy!
-
Alright, not a lame attempt at revitalizing this thread, but: After reading my list a month later, I still agree with my evaluations. Please realize my scale was based on expectations of what each of these titles should have been. With this being a 16-bit handheld system - expectations are kept relatively low. With that being said, is any title worthy of a thrashing? If I want a true gaming experience I'll pop in some Splinter Cell or Serious Sam on that MS thingy!
-
Thanks for the codes, man! Loopz is definitely one of the 'hidden treasures' of the Lynx. It's done by the same people that brought us Blockout - so it's decent. Very amazing that this title never saw the light of day. It's also the ONLY 'complete' proto out there.
-
The tricky part is getting the steering 'tap' down. It's frustrating, but possible. I always thought the 'hardest' part of that game was getting used to the missing frames. If you have Super Off Road, try playing that for a bit and go back to Hard Drivin'. It'll then seem like there are extra frames!
-
The Lynx II, moreso than the Lynx. The original Lynx itself was ga'bage - cheap paint, no stereo, battery hog, ergonmically incorrect - should I continue? Handhelds are volatile, by nature. I think the Jaguar was Atari's shining moment. I've only heard of rare cases of failures and have never heard of a CD failure. What about Atari's coin-ops? That's probably where their efforts were concentrated on quality. Their biggest failure were the joysticks for the 5200 and 2600 systems. Those things were designed to break the day the warranty expired.

TheBizDude replied to Cousin Vinnie's topic in Atari Lynx
Your idea's so good that you've decided it should live on a defunct platform? Hey, how do you keep an idiot in suspense? . . . . . . . I'll tell you tomorrow. Clue? - Oh, you thought they said shoe and replied, "No thanks, I'm not going anywhere" Just goofin on ya - so save your flame! PS - the DJ cat avatar rips! -
Somebody posted this link in the Jag forum and I didn't want anyone to miss out. Some cool stuff here, folks: http://web.utanet.at/nkehrer/jae.html

These work alot better: http://songbird.atari.net/lynxwallet.shtml

Anyone see this deal? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=14993 Presently at $510 with 3+ days to go. That's less than $7/game plus free accessories! It'll be interesting to see how high it goes. I never saw a California Games box, very interesting. One more thing for me to hunt down - darn! Most do look mint (as the description states). It looks as though Sauron gave the Pit Fighter box a great big bear hug. L8A! Gregg
-
You could have easily paid double that. What I find interesting is you snagged it in less than an hour. Most listings take up to 3 hours before they show up. Good score, bro!
-
My version from Telegames is a DIP ROM (~8 mos ago). I say your's is definitely unique - perhaps a transistion batch? I have Fat Bobby, Hyperdrome and Bubble Trouble in this format. This game KICKS ASS on the Lynx!!!
-
C'mon guys - you've all played Lemmings. . . . LOL! One bid over actual value and viola - a false sense of obscurity. Then there are those that have never heard of a 'search engine'. L8A! Gregg

What are the five most indespensible titles for the Lynx?
TheBizDude replied to bergbros's topic in Atari Lynx
I'd have to say that the 5 games that always come along in the pouch are the ones with multiple games - needs variety! *. S.I.M.I.S *. Super Asteroids / Missle Command *. Lynx Casino (5 vices) *. Electrocop (virtual arcade) *. Pinball Jam (Elvira or Police Force) -
The following list of reviews are my OPINIONS of the Lynx library. I have played each of these games (the tolerable ones) for more than 5 minutes and in most cases have beaten the game (or at least the 1st level). I'll use the following format: 1-10 rating (1=poor, 10=best) and rate each for: (sound - w/headphones) (visual) (gameplay) (overall). Also, please note that I haven't played any of these as multi-player. APB (8 - it talks!)(8 - smooth framerate)(8 - as I remember it in the arcade)(9 - very playable) Alien vs Predator Demo ((9.5)((8 - they should have completed it!) Awesome Golf (10 - great music and talks!)(10 - beautiful graphics)(10 - options galore)(10 - a MUST own) Baseball Heroes (8 - it talks)(9)(6 - awkward fielding when cam angle changes)(7) Basketbrawl (5 - cheesy sound)(6)(7 - reminds me of brutal sports football on the jag))(6) Batman Returns (9)(10)(9 - building jumping is way too difficult!)(9 - one of the best looking platformers) BattleWheels (9)(8 - very pixelated when objects get close)(9)(9 - great options) Battlezone 2000 (7)(9 - nice job of vector graphics on an LCD)(10 - nice options)(9.5) Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (9)((8 - HUGE levels)(8 - I'm not a big fan of RPG's) Block Out (8 - in game music would've been nice)(9 - effective)(9 - rotating pieces can be frustrating)(9.5 - 3-D tetris, awesome!) Blue Lightning (10)(10)(10)(10 - how can this version be better than the Jag?!?!?!?) Bubble Trouble ((9)(9)(9 - re-hash of Slime World) California Games (10)(10)(9 - skating and hackey sacking can be frustrating)(10 - a pack-in game, so it's polished) Centepede Demo (n/a)(9)(9.5)(9.5 - very playable) Championship Rally ((9)(9)(9.5 - reminds me of Power Drive Rally for the Jag) Checkered Flag (9)(9)(10)(9.5) Chip's Challenge (10)(9)(10)(10 - addictive puzzler) Crystal Mines II (10)(10)(10)(10 - think Dig Dug for people with brains) Cyber Virus (10)(10)(10)(10 - Battlewheels on foot!) Nice tip! The timing of the button sequence can be frustrating. Thanks! -gregg

I figured out how to get sound. Fire up the 5200 (or any platform) version of Centipede and have a friend play it in the background - you'd almost swear the sound was coming from the Lynx! Why are people mentioning being confined to the 'blue area'? This is how I always remembered Centipede being played. L8A! Gregg

Complete the Rarity / Homebrew / PCB cart list
TheBizDude replied to TheBizDude's topic in Atari Lynx
Some good stuff creeping out of the woodworks here!!! That driving theory kit is a riot - looks like it doubles as a first aid kit. I drool with envy over those EOB carts! Harry, that EOB pictured on the right looks like its starting to digest itself, better get that flux off! -Gregg -
Here's another thing to consider: Rosin flux residue on hand-soldered PCBs can 'eat away' copper traces over the course of time (say 10 years or better). If you care about your games lasting - it'd be a good idea to give them a bath in some alcohol with an acid brush. The only exceptions I've seen are titles produced by Songbird and Best Electronics. These guys are in the know!
