  1. I see the adapters are back on sale now  on the Analogue shop, with immediate shipping (supposedly).

Although I'd doubt I'd ever go for them at this point, because just like it was with the Turbo Everdrive, once I put that in my TurboDuo I never broke out any of my original hucards again, ever. Same for this.. the OpenFPGA loads the same data, so why am I going to bother popping in a single hucard physically, one at a time per game. Your personal disposition may vary but that's just where I'm at. And it's the same for Gamegear, GB/GBC, GBA essentially. The Pocket rocks just loading up any of their library without plugging a single thing in.

problems have occasionally afflicted the built-in GBA core (I've not had any GB/GBC issues with original carts but I've only invested significant time in a few GBA cartridges so far on the Pocket). For instance of an issue with a genuine cart, audio disappeared with Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World.

That's the stuff I would focus on.. i.e. the advertised function of the unit they provide out of the box, and less about the openFPGA stuff. because they don't support that really (same as with 'jailbreaks' on their other consoles).

So any issues with playing real GB/GBC/GBA carts (despite it being less common than with openfpga) is what I would emphasize. If you could find a game that goes out of whack with some consistency that would be even better.  I guess if you do mention openfpga, maybe as a mention towards the end as additional potential evidence of hardware instability.. especially if it's can be recreated with some consistency.

  3. Yeah went through the process a couple years ago setting up my N64 with an Everdrive X7, loaded with all games out to both a CRT and to a flat-screen (via retrotink 5x pro).. got that all set up. THEN.. never played it at all.

Still though, glad to see the progress and it will be cool to have that on the MiSTer.  I do still intend to play my N64 games some time though lol.

  4. I didn't think it was possible to even come up with a pattern that you could reliably repeat in Atari 8-bit Pacman, because as you noted, the ghosts have a randomness to them. To me back in the 80's, that was a pretty huge negative.   In Ms. Pacman sure.. put in the randomness because that's how the arcade was. But in Pacman, what we wanted at the time was to be able come up with patterns like we could in the arcade. Well, at least that's what I wanted. 😜

  5. Although I wouldn't have called myself a huge fan, I played Qix a bunch in the arcade and definitely was impressed with the animation which I think was the whole draw of the game at the time. When the 5200 version became available, I jumped on it but I think over time I thought the limitations of the hardware were just too obvious where the Qix didn't have as many lines, it didn't animate as smoothly, the sound was clunkier, etc. and I kind of became disappointed with it.  Mind you these were my thoughts BACK THEN in the 80's. Now though I have a pretty nostalgic lens for it as the only way to even get the game at home at the time (I didn't have access to any Atari 8-bit computers, nor did I know there was a version for them.)   Anyway.. great and unique game at the end of the day.. and it paved the way for Gals Panic

  6. I bought Actraiser 2 at launch and made the effort to get through the entire game (Pretty sure I held out hope there'd eventually be a world building part  ). It's been so long at this point but I forget exactly where I was, but I hit some wall where it seemed impossible to progress and I eventually gave up. lol what a thing to do to your fanbase 😜

    • 2600 Space Invaders is inferior to the arcade game.
    • Aside from being two of many many shooters, and a "bird" enemy, 2600 Demon Attack and Phoenix have nothing in common.
    • 2600 Ms. Pacman is more endearing than the arcade version
    • Too many people don't realize you can shoot lasers in Star Voyager.
    • Too many people play 2600 Asteroids on variation 1, and then with no UFOs

    Re: Pacman:

As a 13 year old arcade addict who knew Puckman, and then excitedly got 2600 Pacman in 1982 when it was finally available, did I think it sucked?  I guess it's hard to say! It was obviously different off the bat to the point it was jarring. But I was easily satisfied so mostly rolled along with it and accepted it as is. I definitely mastered it and even won a contest playing the game. :)  But it was not a substitute for playing the real game. Ms. Pacman on the other hand, I could play that at home and have that feeling I was "playing Ms. Pacman".

    - The great video game "crash" of '82-'83 wasn't that serious. You could still get new video games in '83-'84 from Atari, Activision..

Depends on where you were. Where I'm from there were absolutely ZERO video games for sale anywhere post-crash for years. This being the early 80s, I had no idea of what was happening as far as "the market". All I knew was I had a 2600 & 5200 I could ask my parents to buy games for me for.. and there were none to be had.  😜  I couldn't see any computer related stuff either so it was totally barren. The only time this changed finally was when the famicom and the famiclones started taking over and bringing video games to our house again.

The jailbreak supports most of the expansion chips, including one that the SD2SNES/FX Pak Pro doesn't.

Interesting.. what is the one that the SD2SNES/FXPak Pro doesn't support? I thought at this point it pretty much did everything.

For instance thanks to supporting the DSP-1, CX-4, DSP-4, and ST010 chips, I'm not missing much with the Super Nt jailbreak for games that I want to play thanks to having the real cartridges for the Super FX and SA-1 games that interest me like Star Fox (Plus a Super Game Boy with an Everdrive largely negates the Super Game Boy core that the multicart has.It would be cool to have the Star Fox 2 (Super FX 2) rom and the fan translation of Marvelous (SA-1) on my Super Nt along with save states

That was pretty much exactly how I felt, even though I already had an SD2SNES, at the time it did not support SuperFX nor SA1 (that functionality came later) But it was fine as I had most of the carts I was interested in, and also went and bought custom FX/SA1 multicarts which did include Star Fox 2, and a translated Marvelous.  'Course, not long afterward that functionality did come into play so my multicarts became redundant   But yeah I would probably NOT bite at $300.. I don't recall exactly what I purchased mine for years ago, but it was certainly not that much.

  8. I like fully loaded everdrives on fully loaded Jailbroken Analogue consoles. There is no downside…aside from “excess”. :)

That said, unless something has changed, last I knew, the SuperNT jailbreak can’t play a lot of the special chip games that the FXPakpro can, nor MSU-1 stuff.

I'm much more into owning custom or original then the Everdrive solution.  Even the crazy bootlegs xxx-in-1 carts I prefer over Everdrives.

It's not that Everdrives are not awesome... They obviously are.  They just aren't for me for various reasons.

So I suppose that fits right into this thread.

When it comes to SNES you're probably talking the SD2SNES/FXPak Pro vs the "Everdrive".  Whatever your thoughts on it, it's very much worth it in my opinion.  I still keep all my original carts as to me it's not a "Real carts vs. Flash carts" train of thought, it's simply "another cart"  in my library except this one has powers where once you put it in, you don't really have to take it out giving all the others a break.

I remember fully jumping on SMS R-Type because at the time in the states, that was the only way I knew to get R-Type at home.. at least until the TG16 came out later on. I love the game but my main problem with it even at the time was occasionally the small shots blended in with the backgrounds, and with the occasional sms flickering you could miss seeing them sometimes.

Wrt Mister and NeoGeo console core, I finished AeroFighters 2 and 3 on it and they both have audio issues eventually.

This was a few months ago, but on the TG16 core I did also find audio issues "eventually". I forget exactly how it sounded but playing TG16 Military Madness (a game I know by heart), I do recall the sound started wigging out after a little while. I should try and recreate it...

  11. I mean I grew up with the system, and I think whether Super Breakout is 'good' by any measure is pretty much up to you lol. I fully remember being "wowed' by the dissolving blocks when we first tried the game but as far as liking Breakout as a game itself.. at the end of the day in 1982 I wanted games that had space battles

  12. I bought Radiant Silvergun at launch retail back in the day, but then it totally didn't grow on me at all and I barely played it. I think if I understood the details of the gameplay like the color chaining or what powers you up etc.. (which I had no clue about then) I might have played it more.

Been playing Final Lap Twin on the treadmill the last 3 days.

Here's a code in case anybody wants to roll around in Quest Mode with max stats and all the upgrades up to the final(?) boss.

No, I can't beat that boss yet. 🤦‍♂️ Sail to the island with the big white arena if you want to try.

Yes, that's how I do my password-games, with a 'KidiZoom Printcam'

(or I do memories-screenshots if on the analogue pocket).

This is here as much to remind me of the password as anything else.

Wow, I totally remember getting invested into the quest mode which since I was in a frat house in college had to have been 1989/1990. Thing is.. the game seemed really bare bones even then!

I can't imagine playing it today. But now I'm intrigued! I might have to give it a fresh try again, but using save states or something to ease the pain lol
