    Superman

I think that game came out way before the first film.. So I think it was just based upon Superman... the comic, the character, the franchise, etc. and not the Christopher Reeve film. ...But my memory could be failing me.
  2. Doesn't XMAN use the b&w switch to start? or maybe it's the difficulty switch... one of those..
  3. I bought my Video-Arcade model at a grungy looking electronics dept. in the basement at a Sears in the 70's... it came with Air Sea Battle. And the game I bought along with it was the brand new release: SPACE INVADERS! Being a highly addicted-to-the-arcade-game-10-year-old, Space Invaders was the only reason I wanted an "Atari".
  4. I went to college in the Bay Area and remember always seeing 2600 stuff (but then again that was 1990 or so).. Where in the NW did you live? Yes this Goodwill has a Surplus store on the outside (it's the one near Safeco Field.. home of the Mariners! woot!).. Anyway when I usually go there it's mainly just stacks of clothes and rarely anything else. But as usual, I'm sure it varies daily over time. I did however find a minty Colecovision within Goodwill a while ago (the one I'm collecting for now) and yes it was parted out. Power supply was 2 bucks. Console was 7 bucks, And I later found the RF switch in the toys section for a buck or so (I passed on it). etc.
  5. I just went to Goodwill here in Seattle on Monday, picked up about 8 common Colecovision carts (which I happily didn't have yet), and about four 2600 carts. in total it cost me $10.77 including tax for the 12 carts. They also had a bunch of Intellivision carts I didn't get. However, I do admit I visit that goodwill every so often and the above luck was better than usual. Usually you'll find one or 2 carts like space invaders if anything at all. Although I did get a Pooyan from there for 99 cents not more than 2 months ago
  6. I've thought about it.. but 12 bucks is more than I can swallow to snag it.. heheh
  7. quote Good luck Inky. We've I've talked about that lack of information on Indenture's solution before. It doesn't look like it's going to be anytime soon before we see one... (i've been waiting for 5 years) Hey.. Nice stuff there Nukey by the way
  8. Why bother with frame-rates..You realize PCAE has save states right? you could have saved your game right there at the final level and played through it as much as you wanted any time you wanted.. Taking screen shots as you please. Using save states works mighty fine in finishing/investigating the depths of many a 2600 game. Heck that's how I finished HERO ;P (no flaming about it being "cheating" please heheh)
  9. Why don't you get a copy of Pac26/'A Better Pacman' offa Hozer and see how he likes that in comparison? heck.. it even has the Ghost's siren sound yknow
  10. well since everyone else admitted to it, I have been actively playing guitar since my mom first taught me to strum as a kid. I went and took classical lessons in junior high, then it just took off from there with me playing in numerous gigging bands up to the present. Now I can play almost any style in my own way pretty much. It's fun, but like gaming it's just a hobby (albeit a paying one). I have about 10 electrics and 3 acoustics (2 clasical, one steel) on and off with my favorite electric being my first: A black Gibson Les Paul Custom circa 1982. I also have a Fender HM Strat, a Fernandes Strat, a Fender American Strat, A Ibanez Satriani model, a Gibson SG, and a couple of mutts. I Also own several amps. Yes I love to play (and I'm damn good too.. *cough*) but all this game playing sometimes gets in the way...
  11. you have a site Tempest?
  12. Ok so here's the article/review: http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/ladybug2600.htm Ok so I may be out of the loop but what's the latest and greatest on this? Does it really exist or what
  13. well exactly... I mean what do you do in swordquest fireworld except 1. Walk a stick figure around. press button. 2. Go through some really baffling/goofy minigame... and if you're successful (lord knows how that's determined btw)you; 3. enter a room where you can either pick up, or deposit various icons. And that's about it! I could never figure out whether placing the icons in rooms had an effect or carrying them had an effect. I did notice some hallways opened up after doing something, but who knows what it was. There was really no clue to me as to how your were supposed to know what items to drop and where... well... maybe the fact that I lost my Fireworld comic book the first week probably contributed to my lack of understanding of the game or how it could be fun in any way
  14. quote Well yeah, of course... this IS the 2600 we're talking about
  15. Wait a minute... Earthworld was fun? I thought all the swordquest series games sucked.. But then again, all I've ever played was Fireworld (My sister bought it for me when it was new and let me tell you... it stunk). So that may have colored my perception. Maybe I should give Earthworld a try eh? (solution in hand of course)
  16. I might be slightly off as my memory of that game is faded... But to get to the map room, you have to move to the empty rectangular area to the right off the thin bridge you describe. It's the gap about the width of Indy. As a matter of fact, that IS the maproom I think. Basically, it looks like you would fall off the bridge, but if you're holding that "right object" you'll be floating on air so to speak let me know if I'm wrong
  17. Did the page go down? I can no longer get to it
  18. quote Well I'll probably be flamed a new one for posting this, but after reading the above, I had to go ahead and give H.E.R.O a try and sure enough, I finished that level 20! How? Playing on PCAE and using Save States! Woohoo! There's nothing like saving a game every couple of steps to insure you go through a level perfectly.. Allright, so it's not the same as playing the real thing.. and not to mention quite frankly, it's cheating. But heck I wanted to see that "PRO"
  19. Whoah... look at this! While trying to check out that "new" webpage again I mistakenly typed "http://www.atariclassic.com/" and look what popped up.. THEY'RE STILL 80 CENTS!!!!!!!! ... I wonder if he'd honor that

    HOMEBREWS

Although not exactly "homebrewed", I wouldn't mind snagging cart versions of my little hacks of Vector Asteroids and Arcade invaders.. but the thought of putting down cash for my own simple graphic hacks that still reside on my HD has always made me break out in hives or something. (yes, I'm cheap) Still though.. having an actual cart to play always sounds good so if he has any discount sales to "authors" *cough*. That'd be excellent! (ok. just kidding Randy.. I'm about to break down and snag me some carts soon anyway)

    Snow White

Oh no! Invasion of the IRC / Newsgroup "testy" topics!! This message board (and the old Nexus') used to be such a peaceful place... *sniff* allright, who am I kidding, I lap up this stuff as much as anyone else
  22. yeah thanks. It's gotten a few comments since Alex kindly allowed me to use it as my Avatar. It's the 'hero' of the 2600 Mystique game Beat Em & Eat Em (a classic imho). Basically I just ran the game in an emu and took a screenshot. After a bit of cropping, I sent it in to Alex and that's about it. I was considering making it an animated GIF but I figured that would be a tad too much
  23. PCAE is great but don't forget about Z26. Small, Fast, and easy btw, it is DOS but I assume if you can run pcae, z26 will run fine as well
