  1. It is an excellent way.. I kind of miss the days when he was selling them for 80 cents each though Maybe he raised it to pay for his spiffy new web-page look heheh
  2. I'm almost ashamed to admit this but if you're desperate, you could do it the cheapo way I've always done it: by simply running an emulator and Windows Sound recorder at the same time, and then holding your computer's mic over to the speaker. Of course, Windows Sound recorder also has limited wav editing abilities to trim the sound to what you want. Obviously it aint the best, but it sure was quick and easy.. The way I figure it, 2600 sounds aren't exactly high fidelity anyway
  3. What they need to do is add a Roleplaying element to the game. Perhaps there can be places you could walk around before getting into your tank. Also I think a bit of a "treasure hunt" element would be welcome as well. (i.e. collect 100 'tank-tokens' to get an increase in your traction, etc.) And Of course yes, a realtime 3D environment with several worlds to travel to (including outer space). allright, so i'm bored and babbling...
  4. I loved all my systems since my dad first brought home that Coleco Telstar.. And I've pretty much owned all the major ones that have come out (not really so much the more esoteric ones though).. However overall, the bottom line is the consoles that made the biggest impressions in their time for an extended period were: 1. 2600 2. SNES and.. 3. the 5200 is a sentimental favorite

    Zaxxon

I waited something like 4 months for my 2600 Zaxxon to be delivered (apparently via boat) and didn't know what to expect as well. When I popped it in yes I was dissapointed naturally, but upon forcing myself to play the game (heck I had waited for it for so long), I discovered it wasn't *so* bad after a couple of days. Bottom line, it isn't so bad and is actually pretty fun. I played that game a lot after all... But it aint no Zaxxon
  6. A giant foot stomping statue of Montezuma???? I thought I played all levels of the 5200 version inside and out and never saw anything like that. Do you remember where it was?
  7. 2600 Donkey Kong wasn't *so* bad, but what truly bugged me from the beginning was the way it jumped from the rivets stage back to the ramp stage with no closure (i.e. defeating Donkey Kong). I've said this before, but memory limitations being what they were, I still figure they could have just turned the donkey kong sprite upside down or something while the 2 second between-stages-tune was playing etc. I think that would have made all the difference
  8. I've been thinking of getting my hacks for Vector Asteroids and Arcade Space Invaders in cart form from Hozer.. but I have a hard time coughing up $33 for them.. Is there any discount for the authors of those games? Allright so they're just silly little graphic hacks, but still..
  9. I don't know but I guess I was always partial to Imagic's Star Voyager.. sure it didn't have the depth but it was earlier (I think) and was just pure action.. or at least I thought it was when I was 11.. ;D
  10. How about a dang screenshot!? I got ZERO replies to my original post about it... We wanna see!!
  11. hahah you mean the 'Beat Em and Eat Em' guy? Glad you like it! I was going to make it animated like Jeffy's above but thought that would be a tad too much heheh As far as the Atari arcade patches go, since they were only available circa 1983 or so.. the best/only place to find out their current prices would probably be on Ebay every so often.
  12. Activision action pack was released a few years ago for the PC. It was exciting at the time but it turned out that the emulation wasn't too great if I remember correctly. However, it was one of the first really 'working' atari 2600 emulators we had, although you had to go through all sorts of steps to make other 2600 games to work within it. Like for example you had to take existing .bin files and do something to them (I forget what exactly) to resize them to 16k(?) and then rename them to the file names the Action Pack was expecting. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. And that was the first time I got to see 2600 Crystal Castles and Stargate playing on my PC
  13. So... now that CGE is over, have these fabled shots popped up anywhere yet??
  14. (from an arcade game -> home perspective) I'm 32 and remember when Space Invaders was the hottest thing in the arcades, and when the 2600 version came out brand new and fresh in the stores, it was like a dream come true. However, upon taking the game home and actually playing it was obvious even then that it of course wasn't the same as the arcade but rather a watered down version of it. Oh well, I still loved it. But that was an early lesson of something that we came to expect and live with back then... that the home versions of games were generally always going to be 'not quite' like the actual arcade versions. The dream was to take the arcade game home with you but I was happy to find any that came close enough just via gameplay.. (Frogger being a good example). Then the colecovision came out with an arcade-lookalike Donkey Kong and I just about soiled my pants (no flames plz) Of course these days, home versions of games are carbon copies of their arcade counterparts and sometimes even better. What's my point? I don't know.. just wanted to babble a bit
  15. Do you mean this one? http://www.users.qwest.net/~bapcruz/madden.jpg It may load somewhat slowly... I just happened to have this old magazine here at work and read your post. I didn't even know John Madden could give 2600 tips! He sure is talented.... *cough*
  16. hahahaha I just get finished typing the above and resumed surfing around.. look at what I stumbled upon. What a coincidence http://www.classicgaming.com/mailbag/mail177/ (scroll down to the last letter at the very bottom of the page ). Too bad the editor was such a clueless butthead in his reply
  17. Atari made patches for their arcade games like Centipede, Battlezone, and Tempest for example
  18. I know exactly how you guys feel.. I found that Yar as a kid and could never find it again after I tried and tried too.. until I began to wonder if it was a glitch that I mistook for a YAR graphic.. Like you, I finally did find it on the internet only a few years ago (after emailing the editor of the 2600 Connection who graciously pointed it out to me) but man, it was SUCH a justification and closure to something that was bugging me for years and years...I KNEW I wasn't smoking crack! ;P
  19. hmm ET never did seem too "difficult" but rather more annoying than anything else. What kind of changes/tweaks do you think could be made? I know the biggest complaint probably everyone has is falling back in pits while trying to get out of them, but you just have to make sure to only push left or right when exiting them....I think. (my memory may be a little foggy) Anyway, it's easy enough.. Do you think perhaps the doctor/fbi agent guys chasing you could be made less persistant?
  20. Did you ever get them? I'll send em out..
  21. I'm looking for 2600 pacman sounds.. DOO DAA DOO DAA dang dang da dang dang dang dang dang dang dang da dangdang *BOOP* pokwaaat! pokwaat!
  22. Scramble was never translated to any consoles or to the 2600 as far as I could tell.. although Tomy made a great handheld tabletop version of it. Come to think of it, that'd be a great 2600 hobbyist project.. SCRAMBLE
