  1. actually it's the opposite for me... I've always been ashamed that I thought Pitfall sucked! But now, I'll admit it! Although the guy walking around and jumping was a neat concept. It just always seemed pointless and repetitive for me as I innately felt there should be an end/point to the journey.. ok i've said it after all these years... Flame on!
  2. Isn't that what you're constantly falling into in ET? unfilled landfill pits soon to be filled with the vile carts?
  3. The first game I got for (and with) my Sears Console was Space Invaders.. which was the entire reason I bought a VCS in the first place. Actually... my memory is foggy but I seem to remember that AIR SEA BATTLE was the pack-in with my Sears Video Arcade console. i.e. NOT Combat. But I was so little so I don't really remember. Can anyone confirm this?
  4. Most ANY arcade game translation that was made was enough to get my mouth watering to play it. I wasn't too hip on the original titles. However Mspacman, Frogger, Qbert, Defender, Pacman *cough*, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Reactor etc. etc. would get me all up and daydreaming as to how close they would come to the real arcade game. Of course often they would be waay off and dissapointing (pacman/donkey kong). But occasionally they would hit just the right balance of gameplay to make you think you could play the arcade game just as well with the acquired skills (Frogger, Mspac, Reactor). I remember ordering Asteroids from the Sears wishbook and dreaming about it nightly until I got it
  5. Wouldn't have fooled very many I don't think... as those gravestones and fences have far too much detail etc. etc. But still nice nonetheless

    It did come!!!

The difficulty switches in Asteroids allow for Saucers to come out and attack you. Of course you want this on otherwise it just wouldn't be Asteroids! I also think it's also advisable to play the "even" game numbers which allow the asteroids to travel at angles other than just the boring up&down but I'm sure you knew this already.

    Your Back!!!!

so then like... where's the Elevator Action roms or something....
  8. aaw man.. I think I liked better it when you had the E.T. pic and the "I Love ET" quote there... Oh well.. although this probably belongs in that earlier thread, count me in as an E.T. Lover. Back in those days my parents would only buy me one game in intervals etc. So when they misguidedly bought me ET, it was my only new game for several months Damn right I LEARNED to love it!! *cough*.. with only mild regrets of course And yes I did graduate past game "3".. (there is no 'teddy bear' level). Or at least none that I remember....
  9. How about just doing something like Zookeeper!
  10. well.. too many moving sprites never stopped other attempts at 2600 arcade conversions in the past has it? Obviously it would have to be a scaled back version but really, what 2600 game isn't... Well.. whether it's good or bad, if the game exists, bring it on!!!! ;D
  11. good lord what have I started ~___~....
  12. I'd have to agree. The primary focus of any commercial emulation release should be to recreate the game as accurately as possible. Ideally, it should feel like you had an actual atari VCS hooked up to your tv/pc and are playing that cartridge. If 'little' things like sound, colors, or speed/frame rate differ from the original, that really does make ALL the difference. The previous Activision release was waaay off. And if you'll notice, the recent Sega Smash Pack for the Dreamcast also suffered from inconsistencies with the sound and that's exactly what it got blasted for.
  13. BWAHAAHAHAHAHAHAA. Oh man that's rich So it must be true that Soda Bob loves E.T!
  14. What do the stars there on the left mean anyway? And while we're on that, how did I come to be known as a "jr. Atari fan"? Does it have to do with the number of posts? I'M OFFENDED! I've been visiting the Nexus for years! Even during it's "we never update a darn thing" era... So... please have that changed as soon as possible to my preferred label: "Dumbass Atari fan" k thanks
  15. WOOOHOOOO!!! Thanks Dude!! Alex r0x... Now lets see if I got a star yet.......
  16. Scans rock. I absolutely luv em as it's a great way to share classic gaming mags and literature etc. for people who like to read this stuff but might not have have an existing collection or the desire to plunk down $$ for the occasional ebay sale... I was lucky enough to be obsessed with reading about video games since I was a kid so I have a pretty respectable collection of mags and books.... Now all I need is a scanner of my own
  17. GAAH YEAH! I totally forgot about the Activision Action pack.. not to mention the pc version of Williams Arcade classics around the same time. Anyway, I bought that sucker (I rarely bought computer software) and played it and wasn't too impressed. However, eventually I (like everyone) else started placing other rom images into there by altering the file size and renaming them accordingly. It was confusing after a while but seemed to work ok.. However, alternate 2600 emus were just around the corner.. aaah the good old days picking at a bone....
  18. Yeah I remember when I discovered 2600 emulation. Basically in like 1995 or so after scouring the web for anything 2600/5200 related.. I found the new classic game "remake" and eventually the emulation pages. It wasn't shortly after that the new 2600 emulators started to come out.. I forget but I think pc26 (i think that was the name) and stella came out. To make a long story short. I tried running one.. got a little 2600 looking "dot" on the top left hand side of my monitor... and I about wet my pants.. (Hey, it was a start)

    CRAP-O-RAMA

CROSSBOW! >where the heck have you been buddy? I've been here! not to mention lurking in other spots... >I really didn't think you had any interest >in this old system...hehe... what?!!? good lord it's the only system I talk about when we chat on irc or at Jose's... Of all people YOU should know of my childhood obsession Although I'm not really a "collector" per se (my only carts are the ones I've had since I was a kid... i.e. one of anything w/ no duplicates.) yep I have to say I got 2600 on my brain constantly

    CRAP-O-RAMA

wtf is atari? ok ok ..just wanted to post something as it's been a while ^_^
  21. Of course it could be made. Obviously it would be totally stripped down and would.. uhh to put it bluntly.. most likely suck. But that's part of the fun imho Anyway if it is really a prototype then it probably would be barely playable if even that. Getting an arcade perfect conversion these days for a home console is old hat.... getting a "2600/vcs" arcade conversion is another story. And although for every 2600 Stargate (cool!) there is a 2600 Amidar (peew)... it's all good
  22. But What about ZOOKEEPER!?!?! Did anyone see that?! That's the game I always thought would make a great 2600 game and seeing a prototype of that would seriously own me
