New leak from Microsoft states new Xbox console is coming… soon.
NE146 replied to ColecoGamer's topic in Xbox Series S/X
the Quarterman column name "Gaming GOSSIP" was at least up-front about what it was about.. i.e. Industry speculation and rumors. Nothing wrong with that. And of course they did have a lot of actual early info that turned out to be accurate. e.g. Turbografx, Lynx, etc. -
So I finally got around to configuring a MiSTer.ini to do analog component video out, onto a TV I got from the junkyard, and man it looks great! HDMI output is more flexible with the display options (rotation, filters, resolution, masks, etc).. but THAT SAID, just the way it looks on a CRT is definitely my preference and with a component signal (I'll probably never get a PVM) is still super nice.. Once I can get this heavy-ass TV into the house, I'll probably dedicate the MiSTer to it and call it a day.

I pretty much came around full circle to the point where when it comes to original consoles (especially 16-bit and below), rather than dinking with cables, customization, upscalers, etc... I prefer them simply with composite out, to a regular CRT. Period. It was good enough for me for decades here in the US and I find there's just something comforting about it lol. But whatever the case, I think it looks just fine, if not great Anyway, these days if you want to play on a flat screen you have emulation of all sorts (e.g. the Mini consoles). You have MisTer. And soon we'll have the Analogue Duo. They'll all have hdmi out and look great in that context. -

Weird.. maybe it’s a regional thing because this is what I’m seeing when I click that. But that would explain a lot -

Yeah as I said, the PC Engine Mini is the only one available.. i.e. from Amazon.jp. It’s how I got mine. However the Coregrafx Mini remains unavailable. Amazon UK shows them as unavailable same as every other time I looked. If you have a working link at retail price though, let me know so I can buy one and complete my collection ? -
I did make a mame barcade cabinet using a raspberry pi a number of years ago. While I'm not too shabby with basic woodworking, I basically purchased a precut MDF shell and artwork from gameroomsolutions.com.. pretty much like this (I believe they also sell turnkey kits). I liked it as it was put together ikea style so it goes together quick. The shell is half the battle though as I still had to buy a good enough monitor that would fit, an amplifier, speakers, joystick and button controls, power supplies, LED light strips, not to mention raspberry pi and configuration, etc and assemble on my own. It came out pretty ok though.. I won't be doing much 'updates' on it as it's been in a state of functioning well enough for what it is.

Everyone is talking like the Minis as if they're easily available. I might be wrong, but the last I checked the only one that seems to be readily in stock is the PC Engine Mini and that's pretty much only in Amazon.jp. For the Coregrafx who knows... unless you want to get a (probably used) one on ebay for double or triple the original price. That said, they're all the same "hardware" with more or less the same game selection for the MOST part so in my mind they're all pretty much equal... if only the PCE Mini came with a pad with turbo buttons though... -

Yeah there's some problems, but many of the issues mentioned are related to the jailbreak which Analogue doesn't even acknowledge, let alone support in any way (even if we *wink wink* at each other all day). There are some crossover issues with real carts & cds of course, but if you're looking for 100% "perfection" keep in mind that even original hardware is rarely perfect among hardware revisions. I will say as an owner of all the Analogue consoles, to me it's pretty much spot on for the majority of what most anyone plays and I have had zero issues. I have a friggin ball with them. Granted, I haven't bothered playing Sonic CD but I didn't even play that when I bought the game new Am I being a shill? Sure! I have zero bias to be 100% honest and use original hardware, original carts, flashcarts, fpga consoles including the MisTer, and emulation of all types both pc, handheld, and console based. I like it all. If I was to give YOU an actual recommendation right here and now, aside from emulation (e.g. tg16 mini, etc.) I'd agree with saying the MisTer is your best bet to play Turbo games as soon as possible in accurate fashion. And keep an eye out for the Analogue Duo for the future if you want to play original hucards & cds... flashcarts or otherwise. -

Get in line for one of these I guess https://www.analogue.co/duo ? -
I do have a lot of fond memories of the game.. the biggest being figuring out the whole map room thing on my own. Most frustrating part of the game is the parachute section trying to get into that damn cave where if you miss you have to gather all the crap again.

I mean yeah I lived throughout that entire time of course. That's exactly my point.. I see todays stuff as more or less the same computer, just streamlined and faster. ?
-
I always say it's odd to see a 486 as "desired" because in my mind, the computers I've used from my 486 in the 90's, and up to my current computer, were ALL the same thing basically. i.e. It was all was just one continuous never-ending "getting improved gear and newer OS" over the years... but the same basic computer. Just faster! Although I guess clearly it's mutated by this point, so I need to have a paradigm shift.

Speaking of broken joysticks funnily enough.. the original A1Up release Pac-Man I generally play at my brother in laws house now can no longer go down (or has a lot of difficulty doing so). Not my machine so I can't troubleshoot what's going on but just thought it'd be worth mentioning.

There was a scam site that popped up last month masquerading as arcade1up (I think they were arcade1up.us).. Are you sure you ordered it from arcade1up.COM and got a confirmation, and/or view it in your account?

Yeah there were a bunch of arcade games that had that woodgrain style... gave a row of arcade games that uniform (dull) look. Those first couple levels aren't too hard! Although... you know I'm not certain, but I think the relatively recent "finished" version of Major Havoc where you can actually reach the ending, I think had a more balanced difficulty. But again I'm not entirely sure. https://mhedit.askey.org/PromisedEnd.aspx

Yeah but I don't keep any desktops on constantly, let alone any VMs running on them. If it's something I'm going to run 24/7 into the foreseeable future I'd rather have it on a low power/low profile Pi stuck somewhere out of sight.
-
I was actually looking for a rpi to run Pihole 24/7.. however screw those prices. I think we have some defunct ones laying around the house from my kid's "kano" computer kits and whatnot which he's well past the age for.. maybe I'll plunder those.

The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!
NE146 replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If you're not burned out on the game yet, I'd recommend checking out the PSX Nectaris which has a bunch of new maps and is the closest in look to the TG16 one... although they turned the battles into ugly polygon ones. Thankfully you can turn them off completely which also makes the game go a lot faster. Neo Nectaris on the Turbo CD though should be the obvious choice as it's the direct sequel.. but for some reason it just never grabbed me. I think the music of the game is what turned me off about it, so much so that I ended up modifying an ISO of the game to insert the TG16 music. Still haven't played it through 100% though.- 3,677 replies

Right but I was replying to you saying you were "left with a lot of Hawkeye anti-aircraft units and they had no aircraft" Wait what? Is that something that happens if you take too many turns? If so, wow I have never seen that! I'm going to have to check that out.- 3,677 replies

I've been a pretty huge Military Madness fan since the game was first released having finished it multiple times. I've also played a bunch of Nectaris (very recently having played through all 64+ or whatever stages in the Playstation 1 version). Even without enemy aircraft, your hawkeyes (or any unit really.. even the mules/vans) can still be useful as "surround" effect support to help your remaining ground units. i.e. Where it basically cuts the opposing unit's defense drastically if you surround them (especially on opposite sides of the hexagon). I'm guessing you mean the main base.. but yeah it makes sense to park a unit (e.g. a Charlie) on there as you can play a map for a long time but all they need to do is move a single unit on there and you lose. The thing about the bases is the defense on there is very high so sometimes you come to a point where the computer will park a fully-battle-experienced Giant on there and it's almost impossible to kill it unless you completely surround it. Yes... 100%. It's also sometimes a strategy to see if the enemy has a factory with units in it, and if there's a limited amount of exits (1 or 2) from it, place a unit on those exit spaces to block them from getting out. Then you can move a charlie in to capture it and take those units.- 3,677 replies

I don't know about that newer cab, but on my older launch A1up 12-1, the spinner works for both Tempest & Major Havoc.

Hmm... as someone who bought TG16 Bonk's 1 and 2 at their respective launches and liked them, I actually have never even TRIED Bonk 3 out! .. not even 5 minutes of it. Now I'm intrigued to give it a good go.- 3,677 replies
