  1. DOH!!!!!!!! (slapping self silly, hitting hands with hammer, banging self upside head with broken 5200 controller) Sigh.... Thanks (I feel soooooooo stupid) Mendon
  2. Again, Thanks to all for your responses; very much appreciated. I'm still not sure I get the picture: So, if I am reading you right, Protector SE comes with the Protector game CD, the Native Demo CD AND a cart of some kind that allows you to play Native and other downloaded games like Jagmania and Painter? And BattleSphere does the same thing? And if I bought the ByPass cart, I'd just be getting a cart that would allow me to load CD's like Native or the soon to be available "American Hero's"? Only reason I ask is because in reading the description on both Carl's website and in the AA store, nothing is said about a cart being included with Protector; just the game and Native Demo CD. And if a cart isn't included, that must mean that both PSE and BSG must use a "swap CD" function of some kind to load other Jag CD's like Native. Or it might mean I don't understand anything... I apologize if I appear stupid or ignorant (I'm not, really, just old and senile) but am very curious as to how all this works. I'll find out pretty soon for myself I guess for I hope to get a little more cash together (and get the wife calmed down from all my recent buys) and order PSE. And the same for BSG (when one comes up on eBay). Thanks again for your responses and patience. Mendon
  3. One further question... I was looking at the AA controller description and it said that the Wico controller came with a "Y" connection that allowed you to use a regular 5200 controller for keypad input or the Wico keypad along with the Wico controller. Does anyone make just a "Y" connector cable that allows you to have both a 5200 controller AND a regular Atari CX joystick connnected? Seems I've heard of people using regular 2600 controllers on games like Pac Man but I could be wrong on this. Was just thinking that since finding that a Sega Genesis controller works on a 2600 (and I really like it for some games) that such a "Y" connector might be nice for the 5200: have the 5200 plugged in for keypad input and use a 2600 joystick or Genesis joypad for control. Sure it might not work on all games but gives you another controller option to have. Thanks again for all responses! Mendon
  4. Thanks to everyone for your responses.. very much appreciated. Since everyone suggested it, I think I'll try getting some sticks from Mr. Retrogamer and also get the PC controller adapter. Thanks again! Mendon
  5. I'm going to be ordering Castle Blast, Koffi, and Haunted House 3D in the very near future from AA, and got to thinking its probably time I either tried to find new controllers for my 5200 or got rebuild kits. I was thinking of perhaps looking for another controller, such as the Wico. Are the Wico hard to come by? What would be the normal price they might be selling for? Is there any other controllers available for the 5200 other than the Atari and Wico? Thanks in advance for any info. Mendon
  6. Might not be Jag games but you can buy Haunted House 3D for the 5200 right now and Adventure II for the 5200 should be available in the not too distant future. I checked out the demo of Adventure II and it looks really, really good. Mendon
  7. When I got my first Atari 800, I couldn't afford the $1,000 disk drive so had to settle for the $199.99 tape drive. First 2 tapes I bought were Shamus and Jumpman. I still remember watching Jumpman climb sloooooowly up the ladder while the game loaded, 5min or so ..... and sometimes when he reached the top the message "Load Error" would appear and you'd have to do it all over again. Ahhh.... now those were the days. Mendon
  8. Ummm.... hate to sound stupid but whats an "American Hero" CD?? Mendon
  9. I've enjoyed reading this topic; thanks to all for interesting and educational posts!! And since I'm still new here to AA, I'd like to state that: A) I'm not demanding any releases or pushing for a quick release from any developers/coders. I'm enjoying my Jag and the games I have, but would always like to see new things. B) I'm not asking for anything free; I believe FULLY in supporting those that offer Atari support working on new programs. I'm one of the few who actually registered my ST Shareware programs on a regular basis and would gladly pay for new programs for my Jag. Now, with all that said and being new, another of my infamous questions: should I invest in a ByPass cart or purchase Protector SE (or BattleSphere if T-Bird would get off his lazy butt and make more available TOMORROW free of charge )? Is there any real difference in which you use? Thanks in advance for any help. Mendon
  10. Evidently you guys did NOT read the fine print of his auction, the line that reads "No collector with money from Atari Age Forum's may bid in these auctions with less than one hour to go until auction closed"... Sorry guys! Mendon
  11. While not an expert, I have NEVER seen a blue Intellivoice before. Doesn't look, from the picture, like its a home done job but thats the first non-brown/gold voice I've seen. Mendon
  12. I understand and agree Ed. I also consider the fact that a lot of people trade-in games at these shows and perhaps, as the vendor stated to me when I returned the "Dracula X" cart, that not all totally honest (hope I'm not being too cynical... but trading on eBay does have its repercussions). And with hundreds and hundreds of carts, one never knows how often they are tested and things do happen that might cause a failure, such as a dropped box, etc. Thanks for the response. Mendon
  13. I'm not a TRUE collector, i.e. I don't try to collect all the different lables, boxes, etc. I mainly pick up games because I enjoy playing them. But one thing I would like to try and collect as many of as I can are homebrews, hacks, proto's, etc. I want to try and support those that are still making the classic Atari consoles even more enjoyable to own and play. I salute all involved. I recently purchased Rubiks Cube, Alligator People, Space Treat, Pac Man Arcade, Berzerk Voice Enhanced, and Polo. I enjoy each of these games alot and really appreciate all the hard work that went into not only making the games but the excellent labels, boxes, and manuals. But some of the games do not have boxes and feel that having one would only enhance the product that is produced. I would love to have boxs for Space Treat, Berzerk and Pac Man arcade; I plan on purchasing more games from AA in the near future such as Galaxian Arcade and Combat Rock and would love to have boxes for those as well. Is there anyone that makes boxes for 2600 games? Is there anyone intersted in perhaps making a deal with AA to produce boxes for the games and perhaps extra's that could be sold to people who already bought games? Maybe this isn't a feasible idea at all due to cost, time, and material constraints. But thought I would ask as I feel having boxes would truly enhance these games. Thanks in advance for any comments. Mendon
  14. Three of my favorite 7800 games are Xenophobe, Xevious, and Food Fight. All three have given me hours and hours and hours of fun and I never tire of them. Mendon
  15. Just out of curiosity since I've read several posts in various forums about non-working purchases.... with all the systems that are usually set up and running at the shows, wouldn't it be a wise investment of time to perhaps check those rare and expensive purchases before leaving the show just in case something is not right? I know I do and it saved me one time when I bought a boxed Dracula X for the SNES, tried it out at the show and surprise-surprise.. Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball came up on the screen. Took it right back and the vendor said "Oh, that's one I took in trade this morning. Can't trust anyone anymore". Just curious what others don't check out their expensive purchases. Mendon
  16. Agreed with the eBay posts. Check out the Lynx section on eBay; there are so many listings for mulitple game auctions (many games are new and still shrinkwrapped) that are around $10 that you will have no problem increasing the size of your game collection at a very low price. In the last couple days I've seen multiple auctions that list games like Cystal Mines II, Kung Food, Steel Talons, Super Skweek, Klax, Chips Challenge, etc all in one package and will have a starting bid of like $8.00 and a BIN price of maybe $15. Also many of the games I just listed are sold separately with a BIN price of maybe $2.00. Mendon

    Grey boxes

While going thru my 2600 collection the other day, I have some (not many) games boxed with instructions. I happend to notice that one of the boxes, Realsports Volleyball, is in a grey box with no color at all on it; sort of a black and white or mono box. Is there a story on why it was released in a non-color box (like a cost cutting plan)? Are there other games that were released this way? Just curious.... Mendon
  18. Not sure if this has been discussed recently or not, but I got to thinking: with Tempest 2K, Defender 2K, Missile Command 3D, and Breakout 2000 we've had some very nice updates of classic games on the Jag. But are there others you'd like to see? For example, I was recently playing Berzerk Voice Enhanced for the 2600 (VERY nice job, by the way!!) and was thinking of how this would have made a nice update for the Jag. I can see the playfield laid out with sort of a Pacmania or Gaultlet style view, bigger mazes, upbeat music, maybe even some power-ups laying around in each maze to be picked up that would give you a momentary burst of speed or multi-shot firing, or traps (ala Food Fight) in the ground that you could fall into while running, and of course all sorts of voice bits. Maybe an update to Yar's Revenge with more of a 3D look, backgrounds other just the "black of space"; power-ups to be used, maybe warp zones, more than one enemy on the playfield at once, and of course some booty-shakin music. Just curious if there are other updates to classic games that you think might be great to have for the Jag. Mendon
  19. I applaud Goatdan's post... since I don't have a BJL cable, modified Jag, or Protector - Battle Sphere (yet), I would welcome the opportunity to play any homebrew games like Jagmania, Painter, Ball Game and any others and would be one of the FIRST in line to buy such a cartridge or CD. Since I'm not electronically inclined (for making cables or doing soldering inside a Jag), nor proficient in programming (if that's what it takes to download these homebrews and get them onto a CD for Jag play), anything that would make playing these homebrew games easier for people like myself would be a most welcome effort. Put me down for an order of a Homebrew cart or CD, please!! Mendon
  20. Hey Godzilla.... I see your reasoning on renaming the Heavy Sixer to Big Sexy... but might calling it that name be a little confusing with the true Big Sexy: the 5200???? Mendon
  21. Might not really be an Atari memory, but I remember always looking forward to Saturday morning and watching "Starcade" on TV. I always remember answering all the questions that host Geoff(sp) Edwards asked and knowing that I could do BETTER than any contestant on there at playing the games or answering the questions. After the show, I would take my allowance and any money I'd earned during the week mowing lawns or doing chores and go down to my local arcade and try my best to get my initals on every screen I could. Then, when I ran out of money, it was back home and play my 2600, with special attention paid to Space Invaders and Asteroids hoping that this practice would help me rack up a bigger score in the arcade. A memory I'd like to forget is my disappointment at finally getting Pac-Man for my VCS and seeing how this game WOULDN"T help me improve my arcade Pac Man scores at all... but for some reason I still played the game and enjoyed it. 22. Thanks for all the responses; much appreciated. So at this point I need Protector SE, Battle Sphere Gold (might as well get both), and a BJL cable... (checking wallet) Oh wife, sweety... can a borrow a few $$$$$ please?????? Mendon
  23. I was just going thru some of my software and systems boxes and came across 5 Atari 2600 games in PAL version stuck inside one of my ST software boxes that I had forgotten about (don't even remember where I got them). These 5 games are complete with boxes and instructions, but none of the boxes are in the best of shape, with some crushing and ripping taking place. The games are: Breakout Quest for Quintana Roo (Telegames release) Warlords Zaxxon (CBS Electronics release) Indy 500 I checked them all out and they work except for a funny thing: my TV screen rolls . Not sure what to really do with them and was curious if they are worth anything at all. Thanks in advance for any responses. Mendon
