  1. Hello to all

I just started playing Baldies... not sure what I'm doing yet and hopefully those that have played it can give me some tips.

Question: If you want to make an invention quicker or upgrade a house quicker, do you put more of that Baldie inside the house? For example, if I want to upgrade a Red House to a White House, do I put like 4 or 5 builders inside and then it will upgrade quicker than if I had 2 or 3, or doesn't it matter?

Question: to have winged Baldies, you click on the wing, then hold B and lasso a bunch of Baldies? Is there a way to do this so that you can have your Baldies attack an area or is the only way they attack is to wander and stumble across an enemy?

Game seems fun and I'm enjoying trying to learn it. Somewhat slow to start as it seems to take a lot of time to build up your power bars and upgrade your houses; but I think its going to be a fun game.

Thanks in advance for any help and tips!

  2. Hello once again....

Time for another newbie question for those that own a Jag CD unit:

I just got mine and it works perfectly and want to keep it that way. I'd like to know whether everyone leaves their Jag CD plugged into the base unit all the time or removes it for cartridge games and only insert it when you want to play a CD game....

Reason I ask is because all the Jag carts I have are a sort of tight fit where you have to put some pressure on them to get them to snap into place (and its this way on both my Jag base & CD unit). I'm a little leary of keeping the CD unit plugged in all the time if I want to play cartridge games as I don't want to put undue stress on the CD unit by perhaps having it rock back and forth in the base unit while I'm trying to fit a cartridge into the slot.

Since CD units are much more expensive than a base unit (and much more rare) I'd like to keep mine in as good of condition as possible. Maybe I'm just being too overly cautious and worried. But I am curious as to how others handle using the CD unit with cartridge games.

Hmm... maybe I should invest in another Jag base unit and have one for cartridge games and one for CD's..... :D :D :D

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hey Badbrad....

I know this is off-topic, but you appear to be a 400/800 fan. I love SHAMUS, but Jumpman & Miner 2049er are still my favorites. Just started re-playing Alternate Reality-The Dungeon for about the 50th time not too long ago, but haven't been back to it since I got my Jaguar.

  4. Thanks to EVERYONE for the information and the posts. Much appreciated.

I'm going to try and contact myatari.com and see about a Pro-Controller and perhaps see if they have any Primal Rage CD's left (they are listed on their website). And I bid on a Rotary Controller on eBay...

Who says there is a slow-down in the ecomony?? With what I've been spending on the Jag over the last month the DOW should be back over 10,000! :D

  5. For me, of course it was Pac-Man. I still remember going to Kmart on a Saturday and there was a crowd of people waiting for the truck to be unloaded and the games to be brought to the counter. I remember being fearful as the clerk announced that they were unsure how many copies they got of the game and that there might not be enough for everyone. But suddenly there was a crush forward as the games were brought out from the back and there were plenty to go around. I remember being somewhat disappointed in the game but still was VERY happy to be able to play Pac Man whenever I wanted.

  6. Was thinking for adding a Jaguar Pro Controller to my system and went on eBay but nothing for auction. Did a "Completed Auction" search and only one Pro Controller (from Go Atari, new and in box) had been auctioned in the last 30 days, and it sold for $40.00.

How hard is it to get a Pro Controller? And other than perhaps a couple fighting games, is it really a big improvement over the standard controller for most Jaguar games?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

  7. Thanks to everyone for your kind and warm welcome to this forum and for your responses to my post. Very much appreciated.

And Thank You for all your suggestions on other games to buy. Eventually I will want to add all the available Jaguar games to my collection but until I win the lotto or reap a large inheritence, I'll have to go slow in my purchases. For the moment I have 2 goals: get a Jag CD and a couple CD games (I'm drooling over that Battlesphere on eBay at the moment but $200 is a little too much for my wallet at this point) and 2) attend the Las Vegas Video Game Show this August. I have read so much about the Vegas shows in the past that I have to attend one this year. I know that the Vegas show will cost me a LOT of money as I will be attempting to grab everything on display :D .

I live in Florida and one of the better results of living here is the amount of Flea Markets in the area. Within 20miles of my house are 17 HUGE FM's. I try to take one Saturday a month and hit a few and since I've now gotten involved in Jaguar gaming, I have one more reason to stalk them. Sometimes you find very bad deals ($10 for a 2600 Combat Cartridge) but often you can find GREAT deals (50cents for a mint 2600 Root Beer Tapper).

Another question: I like fighting games so which game should I look at first for the Jaguar. JagHammer already suggested forgetting Double Dragon V; any other suggestions?

Thanks again to everyone for their response!

  8. I happen to live in Florida, and while there are a lot of things down here to drive one insane, one of the good reasons to live here is the amount of Flea Markets that you can visit. Within 20 miles of my home, there are 17 BIG flea markets and you can always find some classic video game items in all of them. I try to take one Saturday a month and hit a few of them. I've found some very good deals on games but also have seem some outrageous prices that people have set. For example, $25 for a loose combat cart isn't to be believed.. but then maybe 50cents for a Tapper in mint condition isn't to be believed either.

  9. Yep, I like arcade games alot. Often, I just want to unwind and relax and don't want to have to try to remember what I was doing and where I was and what I was to do next in a game. Grand Theft Auto or Metroid might be fun (and they are) but its nice to be able to just sit down and fire up a fast game of Berzerk, Defender, Tempest, Pac Man or Asteroids.

But I also like "simulation" style games. I enjoy Sim City and The Sim's alot, along with Command and Conquer. Since I like this style of game, I'm looking to get Theme Park, Baldies, and Attack of the Mutant Penguins for the Jaguar. I had thought about Cannon Fodder but have read a few messages that its so buggy that the game isn't fun so I think I might pass on that one.

  10. Recently purchased this game from Atari Age; what an EXCELLENT hack was done on it. So much better than the original Pac Man 2600 game and as close to the arcade as the 2600 can get, in my opinion.

Also I want to say what EXCELLENT service that Atari Age gives. The game was shipped very fast and excellent communication kept me up on my order status. I'll be ordering more items from Atari Age and highly recommend them to all.

  11. Hello to all!

Thought I would make a post of what a new Jaguar owner has found in the couple weeks I've had the system.

First off, I'm enjoying the system ALOT and the $50.00 I paid for it new in the box was money well spent. I bought the system off eBay and also purchased Tempest 2K and Iron Soldier games at the same time to get me started playing since no pack-in game was included. Since receiving the system and initial 2 games I have added Bubsy, Doom, Missile Command 3D, Defender 2K, Wolfenstein, and Alien Vs. Predator to my collection.

I watched eBay for a bit wanting to add a Jag CD to my growing collection; I saw new ones going for $150plus and used CD's with Jag base unit and games going for more and wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much for fear my wife would kick me out of the house if I did. I saw one auction that had a base unit, CD system, memory track and 4 games that wasn't getting a lot of attention so I bid on it and won the auction for $97.00 I thought this was a GREAT deal and couldn't wait for it to arrive. Unfortunately, when it did the CD unit was DOA. The system knew it was there as I got a Jag CD display screen with a spinning CD with a question mark in it but the CD never spun up at all. I tried everything but never got it to work. The seller said send it back and he would look at it and if he couldn't get it to work he'd refund my money. So I'm now waiting to see what comes of this.

In the meantime, I've been enjoying the cartridge games I've gotten. Like a kid at Christmas who can't decide which toy to play with first, I find myself playing a game for 20min or so, then jumping to another to play it. So far, and granted this is only 2weeks time, this is what I've found in the games I've played the most.

    1) Tempest 2K - I LOVE THIS GAME; getting better and better each time I play and I love to crank the volumn up on the sound system and rattle the windows. Only complaint I have with the game at all is that sometimes its hard to see the enemies or their fire when words appear on the screen (like the 2,000pt msg or collect powerups, etc). This game alone makes the system worth having and would have spent more $$$ on the system just to play this game.

    2) Bubsy - Unforgiving this game is. He might have 9 lives but they sure go fast. I have a Love - Hate relationship with this game as something drives me to keep trying to complete just one more level even as the frustration level rises with frequent deaths, despite how careful I am. Bubsy runs fast but you can't run much in this game as the nasties have a sneaky habit of appearing all to often. Those egg throwing snakes that are off screen yet still hit you make me MAD!!

    3) Alien Vs. Predator - Another game that has made the system well worth the money spent. Very creepy atmosphere that has made me jump a couple times at night when I'm playing alone and a noise around the house pops up. Can't tell you how many times I've been lost in this game and have already started to make maps of the levels as I explore them. Enjoying this game ALOT!

    4) Iron Soldier - my 2nd favorite game on the system. Love crushing buildings and stepping on tanks. The missions I feel are well balanced with an excellent learning curve built in. I'm also learning that some missions are almost imposible unless you skip them, obtain a weapon from a higher level mission then come back and kick booty. Once I beat this game, I'll be getting Iron Soldier II.

These are the games I'm playing the most, and so far I've not found a bad game at all in the ones I've bought so far (though Bubsy comes close just due to sheer frustration :x ).

I'm curious..... how much does everyone else play their Jaguar? I own all the lastest systems (GameCube, Xbox, and PS2) but they are sitting collecting dust as I find the Jaguar much, much more enjoyable at the moment. Maybe I'm strange but I find myself much more wanting to buy something like Breakout 2K or Attack of the Mutant Penguins rather than Dark Cloud 2 or LoZ-Wind Waker....

Hope I haven't bored anyone but wanted to post what a new Jaguar owner is doing.

  12. Oh YES!! Star Raiders!!

I walked into a electronic's store long ago and saw some guys sitting and standing around a large TV screen. I walked over and was totally blown away by the action on the screen. I asked a guy what this game was and he said it was Star Raiders. After standing transfixed for about 30min, I went to a salesman and asked every question possible about the game and the system it was playing on.

Needless to say, my wife was not happy when I walked into the house with an Atari 800 Computer and a copy of Star Raiders... after all, I had only gone down to the store to see about the price of a weather radio as tornado season was approaching.

I don't know what I was more in danger from... the tornado's outside or my wifes temper inside... But I got to keep the system and moved up later to an 800XL, Atari ST, and Falcon.

  13. Being new to the Jaguar scene, I have much to learn.

I've read alot about the game Battlesphere and all the multiplayer options. The game sounds EXCELLENT.

But how is the game for just solo play? No one I know around where I live has a Jaguar to link up with, so I'd be playing it solo.

What is your opinion: does the solo play of the game justify the high cost when it appears on eBay?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading your posts.

  14. Thanks to everyone who responded; very much appreciated.

And thanks for the welcome to the Forum's. This is a very friendly place and an excellent website.

I'll keep my eye open for a rotary controller. I love Tempest 2000; very addictive. My only complaint on the game is that sometimes the words that come up, like EXCELLENT, COLLECT POWER-UPS, etc hide the enemies and their fire. More than once I've taken a hit because I didn't see the incoming fire. Takes some getting used to but I'm enjoying it alot.

Since I'm an old time gamer with many older systems (Atari 2600-5200-7800, Intellivision, Colecovision, Odyssey, etc) I especially enjoy the remakes of older games. Eventually I want to get all the 2k series for the Jaguar (Defender, Breakout, Missile Command) along with the newer releases (Protector, HyperForce, Towers II, etc).

I'm not a "collector".... I just enjoy playing video games. I buy something not to put away but to play and enjoy; I have nothing that is still shrinkwrapped. Nothing wrong with collectors but I just don't fit that description.

Other games I'm enjoying at the moment are Iron Soldier and Wolfenstein 3-D. Kind of funny as I also have Bubsy and upon first playing it I thought the game was terrible.. died quickly and often. But once I got the hang of the controls and the sorts of enemies you encountered I'm enjoying the game.

I guess for the record, I'll just get all the Jag games... Ahh, so much to buy... so little money.

Thanks again for your help, tips, and a GREAT welcome.

  15. Hello

I recently purchased a Jaguar system and several games and am really enjoying it.

One of my favorite games is Tempest 2000. I've read a couple messages that there are/were homemade rotory controllers available for the Jaguar that made playing Tempest 2000 much more fun. I also thought that I read that someone devised and made a trackball controller for the Jaguar

What I'd like to know is are either or both of these controllers available for ordering from a source on the Net or do I have to watch and see if something appears on eBay?

I also recently purchased (and am waiting for delivery) a Jag CD unit. One of the games I'd like to get for it is Primal Rage but after looking thru current eBay listings and a few months of completed eBay listings, I didn't see this game listed at all. Is Primal Rage a hard game to come by, and if so what would be the price range for it if it appeared on eBay?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  16. Maybe this question has been answered before but after looking thru a few pages of posts, I didn't see it.

I recently purchased a Lynx II and want to get a Visor to protect the screen. I see several on eBay but before I bid I need to know if any visor will fit my system or should I look for a Lynx II visor? All the visors on eBay just say 'Lynx Visor".

Thanks in advance for any help!
