What's the latest games you've played on your Wii U?
Mendon replied to Ransom's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
For me, it seems like every time I want to just play a game, I turn a device on and I have to do an update of some kind before playing. Sometimes a game update, sometimes a firmware update, sometimes both. Just the other day, I wanted to see what was new in the PS Store and before I could, I had to do an update. Then I browsed the store and found a game I wanted. I purchased it, downloaded it, installed it, and then went to play it. But.... had to do a game update for the brand new game I just purchased. I guess maybe I have really become a crotchety, cranky, senile old man. -
Thanks again for the info! I've never dealt with GroupOn before... are they are pretty good place to do business with? (and I haven't heard from my son if the adapter allowed him to use his Sony headset on the XB1)

Dynasty Warriors is a game genre that has never really appealed to me. But after reading several articles about Hyrule Warriors and watching several videos of people playing the game on YouTube, my interest is now high on the game and I might pick it up. Not sure if I want to pay $60 for it, though, so I might not get it until the eventual price cut. But the game does look interesting and fun. Picked up Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist for $12 recently. Tried it out over the weekend and the game is pretty good and fun. But for me, its also hard, Hard, HARD. -
Very nice review, Video. You hit on several things that I believe Bungie totally screwed up within the game. One thing you didn't mention that I found completely screwed up was matchmaking for Raid's. Whats the problem? There isn't any matchmaking: If you want to go on a raid, you have to have 5 Lvl 26 people already in your party when you approach the starting point. You don't go there solo or in a party of 2 or 3 and the game matches additional players to your party, such as in Call of Duty or FFO. Nor will the game put you into a party that needs an additional player. Nope, you have to have the 5 members already there. And how do you form a party? You can't go to The Tower or anywhere else within the game and "shout" that you are forming a party or ask if there is a party for you to join because there is no text chat within the game. Nope, you go to a special forum on the Bungie website and try to join or form a party there. Or you make arrangements for 4 of your friends to meet at whatever time all of you can be online. Again, I had some fun with the game; I found some nice features in the game. But I have complaints and maybe in a year or so they will really have expanded the world for you to explore, have some great and varied quests to perform, have fixed the loot system, added a way to form parties for raids, and other improvements to the gameplay. Until then, I've moved on.

Thanks for the info; much appreciated!! I read the link you provided, called my son, and he bought the adapter. His Sony Pulse headset comes with a cable (it can be either wireless or wired) and he is going to hook it up and see if it works. If not, he said he'd buy the MS headphones for $80.

How are you doing on Oil's Well? One of my favorite games and I was good at it... at one time But in about 10min of trying it out on the FB, I totally suck as I can't make the turns and have to keep pulling my drill back and try a turn again. Barely completed Lvl 2 so far

I love turn based games like Shadow Wars or Fire Emblem or Xcom. I bought Shadow upon launch and enjoyed the hell out of the game.

Thanks for the info about the game! I have been somewhat interested in the titles and may give the bundle that includes both games a try in the near future.

One of my son's has a PS4 and enjoys it a lot. But yesterday, he decided to take the plunge and bought a XB1 (mainly because he wants to play Master Chief Collection and Sunset Overdrive). The only headphones he has for the XB1 is the chat set that comes packaged with the system. He has the Pulse headset for use with the PS4, likes it, and asked me if there is any way it can be used on the XB1. I told him I have no idea at all as I haven't explored headphone use on the XB1 at all. So my question/s: is there a way he can use his Pulse headset on the XB1 or does he have to purchase a new headset if he doesn't like the included chat set? What about the headset adapter that is available for $25 from MS... will it allow him to use any headphones on the system or is he again stuck with using just a particular brand or type? Thanks in advance for any info!

The game really does remind me a lot of Phantasy Star Online: hub world to get missions from and to sell/buy weapons & armor; only 4 worlds available to travel to in order to carry out missions; same areas on these 4 worlds to run thru over and over and over again and again and again to complete missions and collect loot; same enemies over and over and over again. I loved PSO and played it a lot. But after awhile, my interest waned, the game became repetitious, and I stopped playing. Destiny has had the same effect on me, only in a shorter time frame. I had a blast with some parts of the game, and enjoyed playing with my son and a couple friends. But there are also several parts of the game that I feel Bungie totally screwed up with. Maybe in a year or more they will flesh the game out to include a lot of activities that take place in a vast universe, and I can always play again. But for now, I think I'll follow the example of WestofHouse and trade the game in towards Alien: Isolation or Grand Theft Auto V

Breaking news: Intellivision flashback coming to retail
Mendon replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Picked up my Intellivision and CV flashback systems today. Haven't had a chance to play either yet, but did open the INTV box and the little system is beautiful; very well done, AtGames. Only disappointment is that Lock 'n Chase and Burger Time aren't included. I understand why, but still disappointed. -
Just picked up a box of Intellivision games. Advice sought.

Great selection of titles! -
I have a situation similar to yours, Tempest. My launch day unit suffered the YLOD. I had it repaired at a local computer store and all was well until it died a 2nd time in under a year. The computer store has since closed and I don't feel like shipping the system off to Sony for a big $$$$ repair. My solution was to buy a new Slim system and accept the fact that my game saves were gone. I now use the cloud for my saves in case I have problems in the future. The dilemma I face is what to do with my original system. I have information on it, including old CC info, that I don't want anyone else to have. And since the system is dead, I cannot reformat it back to original specs. So I am reluctant to sell it or give it away because of not knowing what info might still remain. I know I can pull the hard drive and perhaps sell the console itself, but I'm not sure what info of mine might still remain within the internal memory/firmware of the system.

Followed your link and went online to try it out. Myself and two others worked the cave for an hour. In that time, I went from Lvl 14 to Lvl 18 and got several good items... nothing legendary (which I heard don't drop for you until Lvl 20) but some good guns and armor. Also, I'm not sure what the name of it was... strike, event, whatever..... but the sky went dark, a message came up onscreen that "the enemy is massing" (or something like that), and a huge wave of enemy after enemy came pouring out of everywhere non-stop. It lasted about 3min and was a blast of fun. Several of my items of armor and weapons were able to be upgraded after this "event" was over.

Maybe a little off-topic, but in talking about MMO's, the best time I ever had playing one was the original Everquest and its first expansions. Plenty of different races & classes to try; a HUGE world to explore that was constantly added to (after playing for approx. 18mos I still hadn't seen everything there was to see within the game); guilds to join so that you could go on raids; working on improving your stat's and skills so that your spells didn't "fizz" and your sword hit for maximum damage, and so much more. And before they dumbed the game down so casual players were as powerful as dedicated players, classes and skills meant you always had something to do besides grinding and farming. I had both a druid and wizard and many a night I spent just transporting people throughout the game world in order to raise funds for other things. Many I night I spent working on my blacksmith skills or creating potions or cooking stat enhancing food or other things. Other nights my guildmates and I would just sit around shooting the breeze and having a good time, or run around the game just buffing other players for the hell of it. I never grew bored with Everquest but only stopped playing because I realized I was addicted to it, spending far too much time playing it rather than dealing with real life. So in that respect, I'm glad that Destiny, as an MMO, hasn't grabbed my attention very much.

Not sure if Vita owners are aware, but there is a FREE (if you are a PS Plus member) version of the game Tempest now available from Llamasoft on the PS Store. I spent about 30min with it so far and its pretty damn good. I'm still battling the controls some as I'm so used to a spinner control (arcade and Jaguar) but using the stick hasn't stopped me from enjoying the game.

Yeah, I'm pretty much completely burnt out on Borderlands 2. I've reached a point, along with my son's and some friends, that we need better weapons to finish Ultimate Vault Hunter mode and after farming bosses for hours and hours without getting significant drops, I've had enough. The keys that Gearbox keeps giving out on a regular basis for the loot chest are useless to us as we're Lvl 54 and up and the weapons in the loot chest are always Lvl 50. I'm excited for the Pre-Sequel, though, because its new characters, new locations, new enemies, new weapons, new skill trees, and new story. Maybe I'll burn out on it quickly due to the amount of playing time I've put into BL and BL2, but right now its a must-buy for me on launch day. Thanks for the info on Destiny. I played a little bit today and once again the Event was a protect the object goal. BAH!

Anyone taking part in the Events? I've done a couple of them each day I've played and they are always the same thing: defend something from enemy hordes for 2 or 3 minutes. Has anyone else seen a different type of Event? I'm at Lvl 12 now and have slowed down on the amount of time I'm playing as I'm just not that blown away with the game. I find the Bounties very boring as they are repetitious: kill so many of these, collect so many of these, use this skill 20 times. And the first raid requires you to be Lvl 26 and I'm not sure I want to play the game that long. I have fun at times with a fire team, but overall I'm just not that excited. Actually, I'm much more excited about the upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel than I am about Destiny.

Uh Oh... Smash Bros. demo breaks 3DS's!
Mendon replied to Mendon's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Wow... you have played 75 hours of the demo in a week??? You, sir, are a devoted SB fan! -
Buy now. There are sooooo many Wii U games that are under $20 right now, I can't imagine what the Black Friday deals will be.

I played the Beta of the game some and wasn't overwhelmed with excitement. There were some very, very nice things about the game but yet it had a very, very familiar feel to it. I watched my son play the full game via Twitch on the PS4 for over an hour and he was really enjoying it. Some of his friends joined him and they were all were having a blast. I was interested in the game but didn't want to spend $60 on it but when I found the game used at a flea market over the weekend for $35, I bought it. I've only got a couple hours in and am a Lvl 5 Hunter. A couple of things I've noticed in the short amount of game time I've put in: 1) While running around doing a story quest or bounty, I would see caves along the way. Ducked into a couple to look for chests or dead ghosts and seemed every one of them had a high level enemy inside (twice they had ?? on them for a level while a couple others were in the 20's) who would kill me before I realized they were in there. Because of this, I am reluctant to explore very much. 2) I swear I've done a lot of the same quests in Borderlands 1 & 2, so much of what I'm doing in Destiny seems very repetitious to me. 3) I like the Events and have taken part in 3 or 4 of them so far. 4) Tired of seeing people dancing all the time. 5) Two things about the game I really don't like at all are: the timer countdown after beating a boss.... why can't I explore, gather things and search for a possible chest and then leave when I'm ready? And the other thing is the enemies respawn waaaaaay to quickly. Overall, the game is fun and I'm enjoying it. But I can't shake the feeling that this game is going to turn into just another grinding - farming extravaganza when you get near Lvl 20.

From what I read, the codes were randomly sent out to platinum people and not everyone who reached that status got one. I've been a Platinum member for the last 4 years and I didn't get a code.... sniff sniff.

Uh Oh... Smash Bros. demo breaks 3DS's!
Mendon replied to Mendon's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
From what I've read, you can't map the movements to the D-pad. Maybe the final product will allow you to but from what is being said of the NA demo, no mapping. And the story on Kotaku has a lot of pictures of broken circle pads: http://kotaku.com/super-smash-bros-is-wrecking-some-peoples-3ds-handheld-1634549128 -
I don't know whether to laugh or sigh.... it seems that the Smash Bros. demo is causing some people to break the circle pad on their 3DS & 3DS XL while playing. http://nintendoeverything.com/smash-bros-causing-home-players-3ds-circle-pads-to-be-destroyed/

Yep, ran into him several times. He gets stronger and stronger with each player he kills until someone finally takes him out, where he then reverts back to his original strength and starts his random attacks all over again. I have not figured out what triggers his appearance in the game, just that he usually arrives when you are already in the midst of a big battle.
