Microsoft Offering $100 towards Xbox One for PS3 Trade-In
Mendon replied to StormSurge's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
Though I own both a PS4 & XBO, I'm not overly impressed so far by either system. Potential they have, but impressive they are not at the present time. The biggest complaint I have is having to install every disk to the hard drive on both systems (which is not a speedy process, especially on the XBO). Since I use both GameFly and occasionally Red Box, having to install-delete-install-delete-install-delete to keep precious hard drive space available is annoying as hell. And what the hell is up with the 13gb patch for Dead Rising 3??? Are huge patches/updates the future of console gaming? MS can keep its $100 as my PS3 and Xbox360 are worth far, far more than that with all the incredible games available for them. -
Nintendo's "New Business Structure"
Mendon replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
A few people on other sites have speculated (and it makes sense to me) that any smart phone business Nintendo might conduct is a "Nintendo Channel" sort of program, much like what was on the Wii. It will show current & upcoming games for 3DS/Wii U, gaming news, and maybe have a couple mini-games (like those in the Wario series or NintendoLand) here and there. I still don't believe that Nintendo will actually make games for smart phones, its just not the Nintendo/Iwata method of doing business. I believe it will be an advertising forum... think Nintendo Direct with a couple activities included. -
I noticed that Amazon has had a bunch of PS4 games marked $20 off to $39.99 recently, including today. Games I've noticed were Knack, CoD Ghosts, BF4, Assassins Creed, and others. I've also noticed you have to watch these game prices constantly as Amazon is raising & lowering them frequently. Example from yesterday: Knack was $59, then $39, then $44, then $34, then $49; not sure what its priced at this moment.......LOL.

I'll keep my list of favorite Xbox360 games to exclusives (not available on other consoles): Gears of War series Halo series, with Halo War's my favorite Far Cry Instincts Predator Tropico Defense Grid Keffling series Crackdown Condemned Dark Messiah of Might & Magic The Outfit Risen

I've been playing around with the PS4 a bit more recently since Don't Starve has been released. And in doing so, I have to agree 100% with Cimerians about the speed of doing anything on the PS4 being faster and easier than the PS3. I downloaded and installed Bioshock Infinite on the PS3 the other day and then went back to the PS4 for a bit and the PS3 just seemed so slow and clunky compared to the PS4. A big, big difference to me and very nice enhancements by Sony.

Let me know when you get online with your PS4, Moycon, and I'll add you as a friend.

I've explored the system quite a bit but two things I find are still confusing me: 1) Where do you actually find the controller charge indicator? I have seen it pop up a couple times (don't know what I did to have it do so) but when I actually go to look for it to see what the battery level is, I can't find it. 2) Where do I find the contents of the hard drive and how much space I have left? On the 360, I just went into "Memory" and I could find contents, space, and delete/move items. But I have not found this option anywhere on the XB1. If I highlight a program/app, I can hit OPTIONS to delete it but that's it. Maybe I'm set in my ways and resistant to change, but I really prefer the 360 environment to the XB1 environment.

Nintendo's "New Business Structure"
Mendon replied to DaytonaUSA's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I really like the Wii U. Its been my most used game system this year and I've found plenty to play and enjoy on it. But with the figures that have been released.....70% reduction in sales projections, software sales dropping from 38million units to 19million units, etc.... I'm not sure what Nintendo can do to turn things around. Right now, the Wii U is priced $100 - $200 less than the other systems; comes packed with 2 games while the others come packed with no games; has a great line-up of Nintendo titles such as Windwaker, Mario, Pikmin,& Lego available; has some great current 3rd party titles with CoD Ghosts, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Injustice, and Batman Arkham Origins available; has good digital titles in Earthbound, NES Remix, Castle Storm, Dr. Luigi, and other NES/SNES titles available; has some excellent upcoming titles in Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Watch Dogs, and Bayonetta; has free online play; comes with popular app's like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon; has a great online community in Miiverse with some incredible artwork; and Nintendo STILL can't get the sales necessary to make a profit. Nintendo has made real marketing errors such as not playing up some of the features of the system. Examples: whenever one of my sons comes over and we want to play some CoD, its a blast to have one person playing on the gamepad and the other playing on the TV..... no more split screen. Or using TVii to communicate with other Wii U owners while watching Walking Dead or Blacklist. And of course, there is the archaic method of tying a digital purchase to a system rather than tying it to an account. But is the lack of marketing and the Nintendo DRM policy enough to maybe kill a system? To me, the positives of Wii U ownership far outweigh the negatives. But as to the actual reasons of why Wii U sales are so low, I really have no idea and do not honestly understand why more people aren't buying a Wii U. And what's even more troubling to me is that I cannot envision what NIntendo can do to turn things around. -
A game of the year with all DLC and improvements to gameplay might interest me. But to spend $60 on just a prettier game with some new achievements... I'll pass. Just like Tomb Raider... I played the game last year and its currently priced at $20 for the Xbox360 version on Amazon. No way I'd pay $60 for a XB1 "definitive" version, especially since I'm sure the $20 game price and purchasing any DLC will cost much less than $60.

I downloaded "Don't Starve" and was totally bewildered trying to figure out what the heck the game was: no instructions, no tutorial, no real game objective stated, no nothing. But I played around with it for an hour, discovered many things about the game & the world involved, and am now addicted to this little sucker. Everything is random and everything has to be discovered and figured out. A true puzzle game that is a blast of fun. For me, this is the first game released, either disk based or digital, that has really made me fire up the PS4 on a regular basis. Brilliant game.

Like I said, it just surprised me to see I had to enter a code to get the "full single player experience" (still not sure what I'd be missing if I didn't enter the code) and for multiplayer. I thought just about every company had done away with online passes, but maybe not. Oh well. And I only used Uplay once before... and it was a totally optional download app on Wii U.... and that was on Zombie U. All it did for that game was give you a couple decorations, like skins for your bat or a different set of clothes, for accomplishing challenges within the game. Very underwhelming, at least for me. I tried Resogun a couple times. Fun game but with only 5 levels, I don't find a lot of reason to go back to it much... mainly a diversion. I'm still wondering what PS4 titles will be appearing in the PS Store and when. I'm also wondering how my PS+ membership will work as far as monthly free games.

Loaded up Assassins Creed Black Flag and was very surprised to see that ubiSoft is still using the "Online Pass" crap. You have to enter a one time use code not only for online but to "get the full single player experience". Other recent ubiSoft titles I have.... Rayman, Zombie U, etc.... are on Wii U and there aren't any online pass requirements involved in any of them, so seeing it on PS4 really surprised me. I thought I had read that EA and others had done away with the online pass system?

Any game suggestions (other than Forza, BF4, or CoD)? Has anyone tried Halo: Spartan Assault? I enjoy Halo games and was thinking of buying this game; any opinions? How about Crimson Dragon? Worth the purchase? Lego Marvel, Skylanders Swap Force, Peggle 2, or Zoo Tycoon? (one game I'm really looking forward to is Plants vs Zombies: Open Warfare)

Oh... and I have read some negative reviews about Kinect not recognizing all voice commands and that MS has a lot of work to do with it. From what little time I've spent with mine, it has recognized EVERY command I've said, including voice commands in Dead Rising 3, and I have encountered no problems at all.

I was also really surprised on Christmas morning when my wife presented me with an Xbox One and a copy of Dead Rising 3. I've only spent about an hour hooking up and trying out the system and quickly realized I have much, much to learn about the XB1. I find it to be quite different from the 360 to maneuver around in and work with, such as installing games, finding out where items are stored and how to delete them (I didn't see the familiar Memory option in the Settings like the 360 has), where the controller battery level indicator is, and more. Going to take some time to get my senile brain used to this baby.... LOL One thing I noticed right away (and maybe you can help me, Moycon) is that the Store seems to be set up MUCH different than the 360 store.Example: I wanted to see what app's were available and it showed me some app's (such as Most Popular) but I wasn't sure if I was seeing all of them. There was a "Search for app's" option so I clicked on it and it brought up Bing instead of a list of available app's. Is this the way its supposed to work or am I missing something? Also noticed that I'm either going to have to invest in a Play & Charge kit or a new AA battery recharger system as I have no idea what the battery life is on the controller. Overall, I'm quite impressed with the system and like Zeptari1, I have a GREAT wife!!

Been playing off and on (too much going on with Christmas activities plus other games when I get a chance) but have decided one thing right off: I HATE SCROLLING LEVELS!!! I had fits trying to beat a previous scrolling level, Chain Link Charge, and now I'm on the Boss level of World 3 and its giving me fits once more. GRRRRRRR.....

A very minor question: Is there a way to clear the What's New history? Thanks to Cimerians playing his PS4 24hrs a day, my What's New is FULL of all is game accomplishments, games he has played, his likes & dislikes, and more..... LOL Anyway, just curious if there is a way to clear the What's New history occasionally so it doesn't get so full. With it showing several friends activities, it gets really large quite fast.

Is this the stick that was made by Capcom to go along with the "Tatsunoko vs Capcom" game? If so, its a good stick! -
Nintendo selling High cap battery for Wii U
Mendon replied to atarian63's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Yep, its $32 and I have already ordered one from the Nintendo online store. I'm not sure I even got 3hrs out of the old battery as between playing a game and frequently pausing to go to Miiverse to post a picture/comment, that damn red light would be on before I was ready to end my gaming session. -
I am a lot like you, in that because of the way Nintendo handles digital purchases, I have bought almost nothing from their eShop. I purchased a total of like 4 games on the Wii and the 30cent games on the Wii U and that's about all. Only reason I have Remix is because I got an eShop gift card as an early Christmas present from a friend and the game looked like a blast (which it is). I'd also really like to get Earthbound (never played it before and it has a sort of legendary reputation) but again that digital policy of Nintendo keeps me from spending money.

Sounds like a PS4 version of Walking Dead is quite a few months away, if I'm reading the quote right. What I'm thinking I might do is just go ahead and download the PS3 version, play it, and hope a PS4 version is released on disk with some extra's. Thanks for the info!
-
Yeah, the sticks fill up very fast if you do any downloading at all. Like I said, the bundle I bought my son comes with 4 games, all downloads: Walking Dead, Uncharted, Sly Cooper, and Retro City Rampage. And with only a 4gb card included, you won't get all those downloads on it.... maybe lucky to get two. I watch for them to go on sale on Amazon (got my 32gb card for $49) and $20 for an 8gb card is a decent price compared to original MSRP. One guy on Amazon had the 8gb for sale for $17 but wanted $25 shipping....LOL Despite my really liking the hardware and the Vita having some great games, I detest the memory sticks and their prices.

Amazon has it listed as being released on Feb. 4th: http://www.amazon.com/Pok%C3%A9mon-Official-Postgame-Adventure-Strategy/dp/0804162573/ref=pd_sim_b_1

I'm trying to get the stick to put under the Christmas tree with the handheld bundle, so that's why I haven't bought from 3rd party online sellers. I'm still waiting for some college football BCS bowl t-shirts to be delivered that were ordered 3 weeks ago. I keep hoping I'll run into a stick locally (and one would think that Tampa, FL is big enough to qualify for the "everywhere" category) but after checking many stores and making many phone calls, nothing other than a Radio Shack I went into carries them.
-
I finally found 8gb & 16gb memory sticks at Radio Shack. Cost was much higher than what Amazon is charging.... $19.99 for a 8gb stick from Amazon or $44.99 from Radio Shack.... so I passed on buying them from RS and hopefully Amazon will restock soon. My search continues while I'm out and about, but Best Buy, Walmart, etc still don't have any sticks in stock. If it wasn't for the fact that the Walking Dead bundle comes with ALL downloadable content but only a 4gb stick, I wouldn't be searching so much. C'mon, Sony!!
