Paul Davies & Dean Swain play one of the hottest consoles of the early 1980s that played host to a ton of quality arcade conversions, namely the CBS Colecovision A console that for its time had superb graphics & sound but fell victim of the American games crash of 1983. Plus, theres a round up of all of the latest retro gaming news and more answers revealed in the latest section of Ask RA.

  4. Ok,so I've opened up the console, no shielding...

I've not got a multimeter handy so I've had a play with the adjusters on the daughter board, I've managed to get the in game colours to what looks correct from what I can tell in Astrosmash and a couple of other games.

However the title pages are still red rather than green.

So I'm not sure if the colours were different on European systems or if there is actually something wrong with it? Edit, just seen some PAL footage. It should be green.

  11. Hi guys, sorry to bump an old thread but it seemed silly starting a new one.

I've recently picked up 500STFM which I was hoping to upgrade the ram on. However I didn't realise how many different revisions there were.

    This is mine:

    8443C225-31B2-40A4-AE63-BF9967F8B3EB_zps

I'm guessing that this revision is the harder version to add ram to?

  13. Guys, I recently bought two Colecovision's. One is a Canadian model that has been modded with the A/V mod. This works fine on my newer flatscreen TV's but will not display a colour picture on my Sony Trinitron CRT. I'm guessing this is because it's NTSC. It's a bit strange as my other consoles allow my to run games at 60hz RGB on the same TV but there you go.

The second model is a PAL model that has not been modified, however this only displays a black & white picture no matter what TV I try it on. Any suggestions?

  14. Hi guys,

I recently picked up a couple of ColecoVisions on eBay, one is a Canadian model and the other is a CBS PAL model which is only displaying a black and white picture. It's doing this on my Sony Trinitron CRT and on a Samsung LCD display.

Any suggestions on how to get a colour display? Cheers!
