Yeah, for the arcade kind of games, like the Burnout series..Need for Speed etc, your not gonna benefit from the wheel. But these racing sim games, I really feel some type game design was developed toward using the wheel. I'm not saying either the regular controller is not going to work well with GT5. But for me, the slight, and subtle inputs I use with the wheel, and the feedback (read-the feel of what the car is doing or reacting to your inputs thru the wheel) make using it far easier, real, and better. With the stick I can hold a line thru a corner pretty good. But passing or heavy braking with traffic in a corner, I tend to flip the stick all over the place. I also seem to smack into cars more often as a result. Haha, yeah Im not fooled that Im on my couch playing a game, but why not get the most out of it. My TV is 57 inch, and when I play, I do sit a little closer...kind of fills up the peripheral vision! Maybe that element helps pull me into that "zone" and I can forget about the room, couch, and TV, and lets me be sucked into feeling like its real. I dont know, weird. Its a sim racing game, so I guess I just treat as such...try to get the most realism out of it. Maybe its just the real track experience I've done, and regular road racing experience, translates easily to me with the wheel.

I don't know if anyone else is using it, but I got the Logitech PS3 Driving Force wheel....um...yeah.... I played the first couple nights just with the hand controller. I would fair ok. But with the wheel, the driving sim is so much more precise. You can really feel the control of the car, which allows me to get a better line and drive out of the corners. I have Forza2 and the Xbox wheel. I thought for sure that combination would be unbeatable. But this PS3 wheel in GT5 is just as accurate with feel and control over the car. Not only that, but I feel it gives the game a whole new experience over using a regular controller. Construction is high quality. The feed back is good, and realistic. The foot pedals (only gas and brake on my version) have a good build to them. It has a drop bar with spikes on it, and they really dig in and hold on carpet! ( my xbox pedals would slide all over the place) Yeah its an extra purchase to play GT5. And if you can, I would highly recommend it. Otherwise (to me) it would be like playing rock band with a regular controller. Having a guitar structured controller just allows for more fun and realistic play. I cant see playing GT5 now any other way other than using this wheel.

maybe 40 minutes, about 8 GB Yeah, and you are given an option not to. But it does warn if you choose not to install, expect looong load times. Im just getting started. Finished the B1 license. Took awhile, as I'm a stickler for getting all golds in the license dept. Did the kart racing in the special section. Those are a blast. The only online racing I've done is with my buddies. I set up races in my lounge, invite them in, and go race. Pretty fun. I want to try out the track maker. I love that stuff. Oh man, the HOURS I spent with the C-64 on Racing Destruction Set track builder! Now, I hope they work on a PS3 Tourist Trophy at some point, as I still play this title nearly daily. MotoGP 09/10 is great. But to buy and tune production bikes would rock...to me.

And the Top Gear test track! Its and air field, but still kinda cool.

The MilkMan replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 7800

What PS3 games are you currently playing?
The MilkMan replied to HammR25's topic in Sony Playstation 3
Red Dead Redemption DLC "Undead Nightmare". New missions, stories, and lots of zombies to kill! - Bad Ass!! Available for (Halloween) October is a brilliant move. Thank you Rockstar Games. -
Over at my buddy's last night and played Just Cause 2. It has missions, free roam, shoot stuff, blow up stuff, and in the (3rd person?) viewing style like uncharted. Pretty fun. I think it would be a consideration.

Anyone checked out Playstation Home recently?
The MilkMan replied to Mendon's topic in Sony Playstation 3
for awhile there, I'd go dance a jig and bowl a couple about twice a week. Fun stuff -
I'd say it the controls are the same. What can make it hard is if you drive the bike like a car. Or play the game like a kind of arcade style. You cant hold the throttle button, and rip thru corners. It just wont work. Its a balance of speed on straights, and slowing for corners. Also, over correcting the steering is what I see happening alot with players too. The bike wants to go straight, and are very touchy on steering (flicking left and right). Too much causes you to go too severe left or right, and so you are constantly fighting to get it back on a straight line and under control. To avoid this, brake on an upcoming corner. Slow down to a good entry speed. Look for breaking markers on the track, numbers on cards 4 3 2 1. Or the red/white stripes on the edge of the track. They can give you info to let off the gas and coast to the upcoming corner. I use those as throttle on or off indicators myself. Even a graphic, banner, or part of the stands at a corner. Something you can always remember that when you pass it you know.. "there, now I need to start slowing down for this corner" Initiate the corner. Once you see and feel the you are on a good line thru the corner (meaning your not going to run wide and shoot off the track. or to slow and start to go inside the track) start to accelerate thru the corner. Once you can see your corner is about to be complete (straight away) let go of the control stick to let the bike stand up and go its straight line. If you come out of the corner a little to much left or right of the track, all it takes is minimal input on the stick to correct your line. I think people are used to holding the stick all the way left or right to turn. You dont need to that with this. Its only a light tap or touch that is required to reposition the bike. The only exception to holding the stick all the way left or right, is in the corner. All the way left or right in a corner helps keep you at max lean angle to get thru a corner.

Avid racing fan here. Just got the new MotoGP 09/10 bike racing game. It offers online racing. Just wanted to throw it out and see if any others have it, and would want to hop on and race each other sometime.

I have it. GOW fan, so this one's for me. I love it. Cool weapon. Some kick ass moves. Great lighting, colors pop, lots of gore, yeah, all in all it satisfies....if your a GOW fan.

Thats cool. Like I said, I figured it's old news. Thanks for the link man! Gonna read more on it.

I take it that it wont work with existing titles? Will this be a NEW console thing or something?
-
On youtube I saw this new Xbox venture being developed. Full body motion and voice recognition for game play. No controllers at all. It's new to me, probably old news to everyone else. Looks interesting. Just trying to dig up more info...anyone else know or heard anymore about this "project"? Says "Holidays 2010"

It's probably a pretty good "average" top 10 list. Growing up, on that list I had Space Invaders, Kaboom, River Raid, Adventure, Missle Command, Pitfall and Pacman. I had a couple of other games too, but from that list, hitting 7 of those 10 is pretty good. Combat probably not counted as it was (at least with my Atari) a pack-in game. No reason to buy it if I had it already. (the other games that completed my back-in-the-day library...Space Shuttle, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Airlock, Outlaw, Basketball, Football, Video Olympics)

Crackpots. Seems like play would be better with a paddle device. Crackpots is kinda like an upside down Kaboom, for those who've never played it.

I got this over the Holidays for the PS3. I am experiencing frame rate problems as well. Cut scenes and gameplay. Except during game play, the music score cuts in and out. Annoying. So, as listed by others above, I too have not been impressed by this game. Just got the PS3 too and thought great, some new system! So, its normal to experience frame rate problems? I've noticed a couple other (PS3) games doing it too. I dont really remember my 360 having frame rate problems before. If it did, they were so minimal I must not have noticed like I do/did with Dragon Age Origins.

Create own/replacement paper box for Atari 2600 games?
The MilkMan replied to First Ninja's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Anybody have the box outline template as a illustrator or photoshop file? Even a completed box, just something to go off of. Not into using gimp. -
haa haaa! Yeah! And it was alot of fun getting it to that level. Many o' pints of Guinness and single malt whiskeys were sampled that evening!

I found this photo today and had to share. A few months back a old buddy of mine and I re-connected. We had a good time with spirits and gaming. We started with the modern consoles, then moved to the classics. About 3am, I snapped this photo. Enjoy!

This is my first homebrew purchase. Just placed it today. I'd love to have a box like that go with it! Good stuff my friend.

Probably others, but the one I that sticks out most is when my folks bought our 2nd Atari. My first Atari was stolen when our house was broke into. I was like 9 or 10 and we went to (some store I cant remember) to get a new Atari. While looking, some other customer asked my dad if he wanted to buy his...he was selling his Atari (and probably at better deal than retail price) So, we left the store and went to this guys house. To make sure it worked, this guy fires it up, and puts in Combat. "I'm pretty good at this, just so you know." the guys tells me as he hands me a joystick. I smile and just nod my head. He hits the "reset" switch and we're off. I drive out and give him the first shot, for free. I think he laughed a bit under his breath. "Thats good enough" I thought to myself, because I then, as they say - handed him his ass. He never got a chance to score another point. He flipped to to Bi-Planes. Mistake. It was even worse for him. Frustrated, he killed the power and handed the Atari over to my dad. It was great!

If there is a thread already on this, could someone please provide links? I was given a PS3 that will not operate the game discs. The browser works, just wont play games. If I look for a ebay drive replacement, does the "wont work because the drive works in conjunction the motherboard" problem arise? Or is a straight swap doable? The drive is out of the console right now. Is there a number or something I should look for or what kind of drive to replace, or are they all the same?

What Xbox 360 game are you currently playing?
The MilkMan replied to moycon's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Just got Viking. It's like Conan. If you like hack and slash adventures, this is more of that. I'm usually clicking laps on my bike in the latest MotoGP games, but something about swinging a sword and axe for Valhalla's sake seems to fit the mood lately. Best game ever? No. But when the combos are done correctly, you get to do some cool finishing moves on your foes. That gives ample blood flow, and brings a smile
