  1. I think a lot of the "boxes" that are found on Sears carts come from cheap materials being used in the prepress layout. In the early days of desktop publishing, each item was literally cut out and assembled to a "page" then a photo of that layout was taken to make the printing plates. It would seem the photo was exposed differently in the cut out areas, hence the "boxes". Or they could of reassembled a new layout from a previous printing plate.

  2. Is there any difference in the RF cable between the Heavy/Light Sixers/4 Switch Woody or Vaders?

I have a Heavy Sixer in very nice shape except the RF cable which has electrical tape all over it. Wondering if I have to replace it with another Heavy Sixer RF cable or would one from a (much cheaper) model work just as well.

  3. Couldnt the same thing be said for the 1986 Atari Corp releases with the black tape covering the "Use With Paddle Controllers"? Cant be too hard to make those versions. Probably even easier than to get an end label perfectly off one cart and on to another.

Then again I am a pro in Photoshop and could get an Activision label without Actiplaque!

You might want to take off version b) of Air Sea Battle. Thats a Text 1/2! Keep up the great work, a very good reference tool!

  4. Does anyone know if the different text color variations were produced in tandem or did one particular color come first? Black Jack, Brain Games, Flag Capture, Indy 500, Slot Racers, Street Racer are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Most games you can tell because of the copyright being added, those came later (bowling is an example of this).

  5. Thanks for everyones reply. I generally like to stay in the $1 - $2 loose, $4-6 Complete. If someone has a mint gatefold Basic Math, I might bend the rules and go $7 :)

But I always look for quality before quantity. My last batch averaged in $4.10 but lo and behold came in some rarer label versions (like a foil Brain Games) for common carts. A nice surprise to say the least.

And every box was VG+. Not to commmon to see sharp cornered boxes for these 30+ year old games.

  6. Just want to get a general idea of what the average per cart price range everyone is willing to pay when buying in a lot.

Stipulations are a Common-Rare mix with Good-Excellent label condition. Put down what you would pay for loose carts and what you would pay for boxed complete carts.

    Example 10 carts bought for $10 + $3 = 1.30 per cart.

  7. My complete boxed copy of Indy 500 is the original 1977 "Indy 500 11" Gatefold release, but my controllers say "driving" on them. My cartridge end label doesnt have the orange border like the older runs, I wonder if those were the kits that included the "Logo" Driving Controller.

Love how the "Includes one set..." text on the front of the large outer box uses the Sears slanted S.

Was Indy 500 ever sold without the Driving Controller? That would seem kind of pointless. But I do see quite a few in just the game box for sale.

  8. In Mame (I am using M+GUI) Under Properties > Control. Then I set the Joystick Deadzone to 0.00, and the Joystick saturation to 1.00.

Just make sure not to do it to the Global properties for all the games or unexpected results might pop up.

For Mess qmc2 - Its under Configure > Input Devices. I have played around too much with that so there might be a better option.

  9. It sounds like you are running into a center window. The paddles are seen as an analog joystick. Let's say the full range of motion of moving the joystick back and forth is represented by the values 0-1000, then 500 would be center. But not all joysticks are the same, and there will even be variance between ones of the same mfg/model, so they can give a slightly different values for center, like 495 or 507. These values could be interpreted as the joystick being just slight pressed and causing the player to just slightly drift when it is actually centered. A way to combat this, is to have a range or window, say 475-525, that if the value falls with in, then it is treated as center and having the value 500.

All I had to do was adjust the Joystick Deadzone and the Joystick Saturation. Now I can get everything to work perfect that uses a Paddle Device. Thank a million for pointing me in the right direction!

    Maybe an NES-adaptor next??

  10. Anyone else have problems with the Paddles in SDL MESS/MAME for the Mac?

They seem to get "stuck" at a point in the right 1/3 of the screen you can move the paddle a bit more then it goes again. Always in the same place.

It seems like it finds its "center" stops then goes again. Everything works fine in Stella so it isnt the physical controllers. Same thing happens in SDL MAME for games that use a paddle device (like Avalanche).

Does this have to do with something in MESS, or with the way they are "tuned" for the 2600?

Unfortunately, games in MAME that use a spinner/dial (like Arkanoid) dont work like I was hoping, paddles just go crazy.

Otherwise the product in awesome! Great job.

  11. Yes, your end label is gatefold type and your front label is the first scan on this page:

    http://www.atarimani...acer_18363.html

    Interesting mix-up.

    8)

Correct. I have searched a bunch of sites and eBay and cant find the similar label combo as mine. I did find different combos for Combat and Surround posted but nothing for Street Racer.

One person said they didnt like posting label combos like this because they could be "homemade" by pull it off of one cart and onto another. But the cart I have is in mint condition and showed no signs of tampering. I guess my mind could be at peace if I saw another photo "in the wild" or at least some mention of it on one of the huge "label variation" sites, but unitl then...

Maybe its as rare as Air Raid and I can ebay it for $50,000. I only wish.

My theory is in porduction they ran out of one style when they were switching over the the new Text label sytle and just slapped on the new one.

  12. Exactly, btw the Seal of Quality referred only to the cartridge, not to the contents.

Nope, like I said, it had to do with their licensing policy

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo#License_guidelines

As it says in the article "This rule was created to prevent market over-saturation, which had contributed to the North American video game crash of 1983."

See it wasnt Pac Man and E.T. all by themselves! Somehow have to get back to the Topic.

  14. Correct me if I am wrong...

Didnt Street Racer 12 Version 1 have an Orange End Border, Street Racer 12 Version 2 changed the End Border to Silver, And what I have is actually Street Racer 12 Version 3? Because the front Label is different? It is totally different than the Front Label in Version 1 and 2.
