Atari Lynx Homebrew Games Released/Completed/WIP in 2023
LordKraken replied to ZeroPage Homebrew's topic in Atari Lynx
@ZeroPage Homebrewfor correctness I renamed the game to Scooternia everywhere, including on the lynxjam 2022 cartridge (the priviledge of writing the menu I guess) -
Hello everyone, I have the pleasure to share with you my new game: Scooternia I initially released a completely unfinished version at #Lynxjam2022, but I managed to find the time to complete it these last couple of weeks, all along while changing diapers and feeding a screaming baby This is a very simple super scaler game (no curves) that shows around 32 colors on screen (with a few glitches here and there) and where your goal is to avoid cars and crazy grandma as long as possible. The game is available for free on my itch: https://krakendev.itch.io/scooternia and also on the #LynxJam2022 physical cartridge release!

LynxJam 2022 'Millennial Games' physical cart release
LordKraken replied to Igor's topic in Atari Lynx
Note that my little arcade game "Scooternia" has been completely revamped for the physical release and feature awesome music from no other than @miker. -
That is a pretty neat implementation, considering how heavy printing text can be on the cpu

I didn't dare to search but that was my understanding too that the rom was not available. To be fair the programmer in me would love to see this proto being reworked (I will totally do that once my kids are 18 - 17 years to go then ^^).

I'm totally against distributing games illegally and anyone with a good position and a bit of money should be on the same page (I'm more cool with kiddos doing that, I did it too as a pennyless teenager). And whether it's a AAA or a small homebrew game should not make a difference really. Now when it comes to protecting developers (and publishers) rights, a difference can and should be made (imho) between commercial games and unreleased (and often forgotten) ones. To me freeing games like Relief Pitcher or Hot Dog won't do any harm - especially considering their broken state - and I would even advocate that releasing them to the community is the best hommage we can do to their original developers: that their work and art is alive again.

I'm surprised nobody ever explored doing a "fake" 3d games using this technique. Sure the camera would be fixed, but the overall impression would still be great. There is a good example on gameboy color with a toy story racing game I believe.

To be fair didn't he just released a prototype of frogger just a couple of message above? Or what is that rom up there? Still buggy but kind of working it seems. But agree the communication style could be *slightly* better.

the barbarian II alone is worth the price !

International shipping from the US has become a huge problem, shipping fees are insanely expensive (40-50 us$ for a single game) and you'are almost guaranteed to pay VAT + custom fees. All we can do is pray to the Jaguar gods for a European distributor to manufacture games directly in the EU.

Some positivity cannot hurt (especially when it comes to the Jaguar) and his approach is more interesting than bashing for the sake of it. it's not like he's a huge youtuber making promo video against money. And he's not really hiding issues or problems with the games he tests, he usually says something like "you can still have fun with this game despite reason X". So for the many people out there who appreciate imperfect games, that's totally ok But that's just my opinion

Stop to ratsit the guy (sorry private swedish joke). More seriously, it's really sad to come to that... I hope he'll get a second chance in the future.

Ah great that you're playing Odynexus for that round. Note that the demo is quite old (> 2 years) so not quite representative of the final game

The art direction is questionnable, but it shows some technical advancement over regular 16-bits games. Would have be nice to have it on the Jag (minus the video background).

Thanks everyone for supporting us over the year! I hope you will enjoy the result of countless evenings of work! More information about the physical release are coming soon, I think you are going to love what's coming

His PoC was not to see if a 2d side scroller was doable, but if he could achieve Arcade quality, which he did. Plus the video is quite cool in how he explained the difference between arcade and jag. He probably put more time doing the video than the coding, but hey that's apparently his first project on Jag. And yeah thanks to Raptor too
