  1. I doubt it but I would be happy to be proved wrong! Depending on the resistors you are using they have a tolerance which, with modern quality components, *could* be anything up to 5% of the stated value, but more likely much less than this. That's not to say that you shouldn't use the specified values.... fit the 51k's when you get them. Ideally we should obtain low tolerance resistors to get as close to the circuit design as possible for optimum results. They cost more but for a small one-off project it's negligible. It just occurred to me....does the Intellivision display properly using the RF output?
  2. Intvnut...your replies to this topic made for very interesting reading! Very informative.
  3. wow! thats good service. Poor Intellivisiondude ordered from someone else (i think) and US customs pretty much destroyed the game looking for drugs! LOL (sorry dude) Yep I was really surprised (and impressed) having read about the delays others had suffered.....and especially having seen Intellivisiondude's 'drugs bust' video. I decided that, at the price, it was worth the risk. I hope Intellivisiondude has more luck in the future.
  4. Decided to give 'eightiesvault' a try and bought a couple of Intellivision games, with the view that if all turned out well I would use him again. I put the order to the back of my mind, thinking it would be a couple of months at least before I received the stuff. The items arrived here in the UK in just *eleven* days after ordering. They were exactly as described...sealed NOS. And the price was unbeatable too! Adequately packaged, I suppose they were at some risk of damage by any heavy-handed postal department, but they arrived in very good condition. In contrast our own postal service managed to mangle a small Jiffy Pack sent to me, and also lost it for two weeks....and that only had to travel 80 miles! Well he gets my vote, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.
  5. An AV mod for the Inty seems to crop up often on this forum, so as a new member to this forum I hope I'll be forgiven if I'm going over ground that's been covered in the past. Following up on my earlier post on this topic, I've built and fitted the AV mod detailed above to my second Intellivision 1 system and it works just fine 'as is'. The build article http://wiki.intelliv...eo_Modification encourages trying different values of components but frankly I was unable to make any improvements by doing so. I'm posting this as encouragement to anyone contemplating building the mod....it *does* work (at least on the original Intellivision!). I'm sure other forum members have had success with it, and from reading various posts it's obvious that some members have even built and supplied the mod to others. So thanks to the guys who designed the mod in the first place, Tim Lindner and Joe Zbiciak, they obviously have everything right. ApolloBoy I hope you get yours working! wood_jl, a fix *has* been found, as you can see above. There are probably other designs around too. It's still only composite video......better than RF but not a massive leap in quality from an RF modulator in good condition. What it does do of course is provide a way of easily connecting the Intellivision to modern TVs, with the bonus of some improvement in display quality. The problem is that the mod can't be supplied as a plug-in unit, which means opening the Intellivision and making soldered connections. This understandably discourages some owners from fitting the mod. Here's an interesting post discussing the reasons for and against offering a modding service: http://www.atariage....od#entry2538975
  6. You're welcome! Our learned friends on this forum know much more than I do about the different Intellivision versions, but I can direct you to: http://www.intellivi.../askhal.html#b2
  7. Hi Gooner, Sorry I don't have a spare console for you but I have been keeping an eye on a few eBay prices lately, so I can share those with you. The following is all relevant to the original Intellivision system, I don't have any experience with later systems. Recent actual prices: Console, working, loose with a dozen unboxed games plus Intellivoice: sold for £16.50 Console, working, good boxed condition, no games: sold for £26.00 2 Consoles, loose, for spares or repairs £7.50 each I'm sure you've seen a few on eBay currently....looks like they will go for around £40 boxed with some boxed games. There's postage to add for eBay of course, unless you can collect. Controllers do get some stick. Either the cables get stretched and the wires inside part, or the membranes inside become worn with over-enthusiastic pressing of the disc! Having said that I bought a really tatty 'broken' console off eBay and the controllers were in excellent condition.....it depends on how much they've been used. Both those faults are repairable though. The cables can be removed and trimmed back to remove the broken section, or can be easily replaced if you can get hold of some. The membrane can't usually be repaired but can be easily replaced, once again if you can get hold of some. The controllers themselves don't contain any electronics, so are relatively easy to fix. You can easily swap a complete working controller for a dud one.....they simply plug into the unit internally (just requires removal of half a dozen screws to split the console apart). Look out for the 'for spares or repair' consoles on eBay or car boot sales. They're a good source of spares and probably aren't broken at all, just in need of some coaxing, and are really cheap: the ones I've seen have all sold for way below £10 each. With the change over to digital TV in the UK many people don't have a way to connect their Intellivisions, or try connecting to find they don't display a picture, so give them up as 'broken'.
  8. ApolloBoy, I just built this mod for my Intellivision 1 and it didn't work 'out of the box' for me. At first power-up a really grainy, greyscale only picture. More by sheer luck than anything else I changed a value of one of the resistors in the circuit which resulted in a massive improvement in picture quality, full colour and sharper than RF on my system. The page on the link you gave to the project actually suggests trying different values of components, and now I know that it actually does work on my own setup I will be using a breadboard to try out different values to aim to get an even better picture. Perhaps you will have to do the same. The fact that a picture does appear for you, albeit for a short time, is at least encouraging! You could have faulty parts (transistors/capacitors)......a breadboard will allow you to swap them easily to check. I'm using a PAL Intellivision which does have an extra daughterboard for video.....idk if this is an advantage or a disadvantage! I've left the RF modulator connected BTW.
  9. Intymike if it's a 1591 model won't it be very similar to the UK version? No doubt it's in German though!

  11. First post for me so just like to say 'Hi' to you all and thanks for providing a great source of Inty expertise and info! It's really good to see so much interest in the Intellivison, and to know that there are still so many active Inty enthusiasts. I plugged in my own beloved (1979 bought) Inty recently and was most disappointed when it failed to fire up properly. A search for schematics/service sheet only turned up the Service Manual for the 2609 which I assume is the USA model, but mine is UK PAL and is model 1591. There's an extra board in the UK model which user Avatario posted about on this forum, and suggested it was for video encoding, but it seems no-one was able to point him towards any further info. The question I have is: Is there any knowledge about UK spec Intys out there? Any one seen a service manual for a UK Inty or a link to one? BTW I have the Inty working again, by picking up a couple of cheap 'for spares or not working' units on eBay....I would advise any owner to do this so they have a source of spares for future use. Swapping the logic board got things working, but I do hope to get my original board working again eventually. It was interesting to see minor differences between the units too. Thanks.
