  1. I'd like to meet this mythical person that expected Atari artwork to reflect the in-game graphics. Caveat: this person must have actually existed when Atari games were still being sold on store shelves. Atari artwork: 1 Yahoo article: 0
  2. It's a list posted by a non-videogame website. What did you expect? Seriously. It was by no means an exhaustive list and many of the games that were listed were pretty good. They could've made the list 100 games and it still would not have satisfied most gamers. It was 21 games. Who cares? A discussion in which you took no part in. You just rambled on about what makes a "real gamer". The bullshit metric is your assertion that one is not a "real gamer" unless they've played an arcade cabinet. That's some elitist bullshit right there. Make your own list then instead of derailing a conversation with useless talking points about what a "real gamer" is. Do you have to be so condescending when you talk to people? Do you do that in real life? Get a grip dude. Again with the condescending remarks. I could recommend you go do something as well but I don't want to get banned from this site.
  3. Very cool seeing original development hardware in action. Thanks for sharing!
  4. How did this thread go from a recommended list of games to play before you die to some dick measuring contest on what makes a "real" gamer based on some bullshit metric?
  5. I didn't see the list as "Of all the games ever released, only 21 are 'must-plays' before you die", but more like "Here's a batch of 21 games you should play before you die. There are more, definitely, but here's 21". Is Last of Us really that groundbreaking? I don't care about the cinematics. Strip away whatever cutscene bullshit there is and take it down to core game play mechanics where you are actually controlling the game. Does it do anything different or better than any other survival horror game? I haven't played it so I'm genuinely curious. Speaking of survival horror, I'd rather see Alone in the Dark over Resident Evil. The AitD trilogy held my attention for a lot longer than any RE game I've tried. Especially AitD 3 with its western theme. I could never really give a rip about Pokemon but the one thing I gotta give it some credit for is making a role-playing game accessible to a broad audience. Oddworld was a nice surprise to see on the list. I spent many hours on that one (and the sequel). One of the best puzzle action games I've played with great presentation.
  6. I would put Day of the Tentacle in Sam & Max's place. The puzzles are genius and the solutions actually make sense.
  7. PS2 has Katamari Damacy, Shadow of the Colossus, and Spider-Man 2 so my vote goes to PS2, which doesn't seem fair since I never played a PS3 but since the PS2 has at least three games that are appealing to me it gets the internet trophy.
  8. I almost forgot about candle. There was another guy too. Forgot his name. McWill came in and knocked it out of the park. His LCD mods should be on the front page news here on AtariAge.
  9. Atari 2600 (4-switch woody) on Christmas of 1980.
  10. That was totally worth bumping a 10-year-old thread for.
  11. I think it depends on the age of the person defining the term. For me, I don't count anything newer than the original PlayStation as "classic". It's still too "new" to me. Same for the Saturn, N64, and Dreamcast. Definitely not classic to me. I remember when they were new and that didn't seem like that long ago. Also, these consoles define the shift from 2D presentation to 3D, which is the cut-off (again, to me). I know I've said this before when this subject comes up, but I like to define generations by the prevalent game play style and presentation, not by console releases. My definitions are probably different from the last time I posted it but the spirit remains the same: Classic Gen 1: Classic arcade style (O2, 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision, INTV) Gen 2: 2D Side-scrollers/Neo-classic arcade style (NES, SuperNES, Master System, Genesis, TG-16/CD, Neo-Geo) Gen 2.5: Weird, transitional stage/awkward teenage years (SegaCD, 32X, Jaguar) Modern Gen 3: 3D Environments (Saturn, Dreamcast, PS, PS2, N64, GameCube, Xbox) Gen 4: 3D Environments + Online (PS3, PS4, Wii, WiiU, Xbox 360, XBone) If I were to organize my gaming room by generation, those consoles would be in good company with each other.
  12. It's probably as cringe-inducing for some hearing "sigh-sop" as it is to me hearing "sness" or "ness" when referring to the SuperNES or NES.
  13. Last time I heard it spoken in real life was way back in high school in the early 90s: "sigh-sop". That's not necessarily how I would pronounce it since I've never had the need to say it out loud but it's how I heard it enunciated back then. It kinda make sense with the "sy" spelling. Same as "gif" with a hard "G". Something something can of worms...
  14. Here's mine. Looks like it was produced in the same place as yours, Zap. I think I bought mine sometime in late '89. It was on clearance at the Air Force BX for $100. Not sure why it was on clearance but I had to have it. Was looking forward to some Altered Beast and Golden Axe at the time!
  15. Yes, I would love to know if there is a way as well. I'm sure the mobile version of AA is very capable but it just doesn't feel like AA to me. It's especially unnecessary on a tablet. At the very least, is it possible to put the "Full Version" button at the top of the page instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom? That's the first thing I always do when the page reloads and it decides to go mobile.
  16. I have the exact same problem with mine! It has always squeaked. I took it apart recently and used graphite powder on every part of the joystick that moves. It helped a little but didn't completely get rid of the problem. It's definitely a lot less annoying.

    Lynx Multi Cart

Very cool! Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to this.
  18. I think this game came with the Performa I bought in '96. I played it once but just couldn't get into it. Maybe I should give it another shot. I spent more time with the two other games that came with my Mac: Eric's Solitaire Sampler and Spectre. Good times.
  19. If someone takes the time to reply to a thread it could be considered rude to just delete it. Especially if the thread could be useful to someone else. Maybe if it were a thread with no replies...
  20. Joined 16 April 2003, member #3314 I frequently checked out the rarity guide at 2600Nexus when I was getting back into buying games for my Atari around 1999-2000. I didn't lurk the forums until it became AtariAge and I didn't join until 2003. I also liked checking out Electric Escape, Monroe's World, Digital Press, and some other sites I can't remember.
  21. Heh, I did the same thing! I was extremely apprehensive about cutting my Lynx and after digging through my parts bin I found that the pic connectors were the almost-perfect size. I filed the sides of the connector that went in my Lynx and it truly is a snug fit. Plus, it holds the connector to the case without having to use glue or anything. The heat-shrink looks nice and tidy. I need to resolder my cable and make the connection more robust, though. I've already broken a couple solder joints from casual use. I also marked my cable "TOP" so I didn't accidentally put the cable in upside-down. Pics here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/233632-lynx-lcd-replacementvga-out-by-mcwill/?p=3206961
  22. Send a PM to McWill. If you can solder, have a steady hand, have some experience de-soldering components, and are comfortable taking apart electronics then you can do this. If you lack any if the above, have someone else do it.
  23. I have a Weller too. The knob goes to 5 but I always kept it on 3. Not sure if that's the optimal setting but it worked for me. I avoided keeping the iron on any components or the boards for too long just in case.
  24. Well, you called him a thief. That's technically name-calling and not allowed on the forum, whether it's true or not.
  25. Yep. Lucas lowered the bar as far as it will go with the prequels. Abrams has got it easy. He'd have to have 90 minutes of monkeys force-flinging their poo to screw this up.
