1. I've always wanted Guardians. I remember seeing it in the April '92(?) issue of EGM in the bookstore and wanting it greatly. Why, oh why didn't I pick up that issue? Have all other issues for that year... How about Distant Lands? Anybody heard any news on that one? - Jason
2. "Consult the book of armaments!" "Book of armaments chapter 3, verses nine to twenty eight: And the lord said we shall feast upon the Colecovision games, but not for much more than $1 for Donkey Kong, and $3 for Junior, unless that thou DK and Junior come in a box, then no more than $8 each." "Skip a bit brother." Of course, that's issue #3 of the Video Game Collector. Prices may have gone up since. - Jason
3. Reminds me of the time I went into goodwill and saw 3 Parker Brothers carts with instructions: Popeye, Q*Bert, and Tutankham. I thought, "Well, I already have the games but these are cheap and I get the instructions." Got them home, took them out of their little plastic baggies and thought, "Hmm, these are strange. They're shaped differently from the games I have." Turns out I had bought Colecovision games! Next thought: "Guess I'd better get a Colecovision!". - Jason
4. Considering games stores charge a buck a piece for manuals, that's a bargain! Although, I think a good price for manuals is 25 cents. I'm happy to buy all the manuals I need for that price. At $1 per manual I'm very selective and feel like bulk pricing should be applied. - Jason
5. That's because they're obviously manly systems. You can play with them in the horizontal or vertical positions. - Jason (runs away)
6. I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. All the girls I know, play MMO's. 947945 My point is, video games had been criticized in the past (at least since the early nineties, likely earlier) for not appealing to females. Nintendo comes out with the DS. Some gamers take offense at this as they see most games as being "girlie". I personally do not assign video games to either gender but if someone wants to insist that a particular system or game is "girlie" I feel the need to reply, "So what?". For the record, I don't have a DS but I do plan on purchasing one eventually. Not sure what MMOs have to do with anything, or maybe I misread your interpretation of my post. - Jason
7. Sheesh. All these years one of the biggest criticisms of video games in general is there aren't enough games that appeal to females. A company attempts to rectify this and what happens? OMG they created a girlie system! with girlie games! and it even comes in a girlie color! Outrage ensues! Turn the tables for a moment. Imagine a world where females comprised over 90% of the video game playing demographic. All consoles and handhelds come in pink. All the games are "girlie" games. All of a sudden the Nintendo MS (Manly System) comes out, all sleek, black, and manly. The GirltariAge forums erupt with cries of "OMG they created a manly system! with manly games! it even comes in a manly color!". Outrage ensues! What does this all boil down to? A big, fat "So what?". - Jason
8. Thanks, I'll give that a try. I seem to remember entering its mouth on purpose as a test and dying in a matter of seconds. I don't recall if I was using my weapon in there (was kinda dark, and it smelled like popcorn). Now, if the payoff is a black screen that says "You saved the universe, congratulations!" I will be severely disappointed...to say the least. Anybody see the ending to this? Should I have my mini-sledge at hand? -Jason
9. For the handful of people who may be playing this game or may want to play it in the future, this post may contain spoilers regarding the final boss fight. For the handful of people who have beaten this game, this post's for you! Onward then... Before the battery in this game dies, does anybody know exactly how many hits it takes to defeat the final boss in Super Hydlide? It's literally been years (likely ten or more) since I played this game and got my character to the final boss. I've busted up his four hump-things, which makes him cease moving, then I attack his mouth (why is it always the mouth?) until my character starves and eventually dies. I'm sure the mouth is the place to attack because A) it's always the mouth and this thing is mostly mouth, B) the mouth makes the "taking damage" sound effect when hit, and C) no other part of this things body provides any feedback when attacked. My last attempt at beating the final boss was probably a year ago. Hmm, maybe I should test that battery . Thanks to any and all who may help put this game to rest for me. - Jason
10. I'm currently working on Majora's Mask and I must say I like it. I just started it recently (owned it for over a year just never had the time to sit down and seriously play it). It feels a bit darker and creepier than the other Zeldas. Maybe it's that moon. Or the facial expressions of the mask salesman when he freaked out on me. Anyway, while it takes a bit to get started, I feel compelled to see it through now that my foot is completely in the door. Now, who do I see to teach me about those magic beans? - Jason
11. I could have written the exact same thing. I have a couple of things I've picked up "just to have" rather than play but they were always cheap. I buy games to play not look at. 947012 Me three. If I see an uncommon game for cheap at a thrift I'll pick it up if I think I may enjoy it but, rare or not, if it doesn't cut the mustard in the game play department then off it goes to my "Games For Sale" box. - Jason
12. These should round out my collection quite nicely... Dracula: The Undead Electrocop Ishido Shanghai Toki Turbo Sub Zarlor Mercenary I think once I get these I'll start going after homebrews. That Alpine Games looks mighty nice. Whatever happened with Distant Lands? Looked promising. I was really looking forward to it. Would've filled the hole created by Guardians. -Jason
13. I don't have one but it almost looks like the screen isn't much bigger than the label of a GBA cart. I'm sure someone here has a more accurate size. Either way, I'd probably end up going cross-eyed playing one. I'd get one just for kicks if it didn't cost as much as a GameCube. - Jason
14. It seems like Punch-Out would be a good contender (pun slightly intended) for a port. The background is static and there are only two onscreen characters to keep track of. A slightly different control scheme would be required. The joystick can do the punching (left/right for body blow, up-left/up-right for head) and ducking (down) while holding the fire button and pressing left or right will dodge. Press up to use the uppercut when available. - Jason
15. This is exciting news. I think it'd be fantastic if this new device read in audio signals just like the SC. I think this is an elegant solution that doesn't require a certain type of computer with a certain port that may become obsolete or require a software application that may or may not work on future computers. Just plug and press "Play"! Mind you, I won't be disappointed if this isn't the case. I'm sure USB will be around for awhile. - Jason
16. It's Mario's gadget in Super Mario Sunshine. Let's you hose down stuff. You can also hover with it. Beyond that I don't know as I usually lose interest in the game five minutes in . Regarding the original topic, I see in terms of games, not systems or companies. I'll buy a system if it has ample games that are interesting to me (which is why I don't own an XBox yet, or a Jaguar for that matter). - Jason
17. I have a Supercharger. CC2 is a little rich for my blood but if I had the extra dough I'd get one. If the replacement SC works just like a SC (audio in) but can run any game (except probably Pitfall 2 for obvious reasons) and is affordable, count me in. Bonus points if it loads games faster than the SC . - Jason
18. I acquired a light gun not long ago and it had the exact same problem. One of the wires running through the cable had frayed near the handle and required some surgery. Bending the cable in a certain position allowed it to work (and is a good indication of a frayed wire). I don't recall exactly how I fixed it but I do remember disassembling the gun, using an X-acto blade to slice the cable to expose the frayed wire, fixing it, then reassembling. I pushed the sliced cable further into the gun so it wasn't exposed, resulting in a shorter cable but a functional light gun. Hope that helps! - Jason
19. I picked up my GG at a yard sale for $1 (came with RBI Baseball '94). I remember seeing games in the Sega Visions magazines back in the day that looked interesting but damned if I can remember any of them (and my mags are currently buried in a box somewhere). I'd never anticipated owning a GG and if it weren't for that yard sale score I probably still wouldn't have one. I had always been engrossed in the Lynx . Even so, having the Master Gear converter makes it worth owning if you like SMS games (of which I only have a few). It's the main reason I'm hanging on to it. I only have a small handful GG games and none are spectacular. Chicago Syndicate is interesting and a little different. I haven't played it much but it's a side-scrolling beat'm'up with an unusual control scheme I'm still figuring out. Dragon Crystal is basically Rogue with non-ASCII graphics. I also have Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2, and an X-Men game, all of which I have for (and would rather play on) Genesis. I'd also like to know about must-own Game Gear games. There's gotta be at least one! - Jason
20. Looking forward to trying the Revolution's controllers. There's more than one way to play a game and it's good to see a company take a risk and try something different. It's certainly renewed *my* interest in modern gaming. - Jason
21. Kinda new to town. Just transplanted from St. Louis a few months ago. - J
22. Hmm, first I heard of it. Guess I should check the Events forum more often . Unfortunately, I'm booked for Saturday. Even so, my car blew a head gasket Wednesday so I'm on a borrowed vehicle that I'm not sure I should take on a road trip. Otherwise I'd consider going, if anything just to buy some arcade parts to build my own joysticks(!) and play some games, of course. That admission fee seems kind of steep, though. - Jason
