Tested the latest build with my unmodified Supercharger and 4-switch woody. The death scene rolling in Splatform has been fixed! Steady as a rock. Unfortunately, when I go to hit select to change games, everything goes haywire: garbage video and low buzzing. This only happens when hitting Select during Splatform, by the way. - Jason

These are the systems I bought new and the games that sold me on them... NES: Super Mario Bros/Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!/Legend of Zelda Genesis: Altered Beast/Golden Axe Super NES: Zelda III (bought the game before the console) SegaCD: no particular game, got sold on the hype plus I like modular stuff PlayStation: Final Fantasy VII Gamecube: Rogue Leader PlayStation 2: no particular game I was too young to make the purchasing decision on the 2600. It just appeared under the Xmas tree and my brother and I had a grand time with it. Combat and Empire Strikes Back got a lot of play time so maybe those could count. - Jason

My sordid love affair with the Flashback 2 started with a pocket full of change, a couple beers, and a gut full of anguish. I wish I could tell you that this is a happy story but love has a way of shattering your dreams and leaving a hole in your heart. Whatever became of my 4-switch woody I may never know. Whispers on the street tell of an unfortunate occurrence with a train. Others speak of another lover but I know this to not be true. Ours was a true love: unbreakable by gods, undiluted by words. My 4-switch may have been gone, but my problems were just beginning. I met her one night at Marley's Pub just west of the old diner that serves buttered buns with a side of strawberry jam, just like Mom used to make. She was on the stage dancing to a room full of drunken coal miners and suits. Her figure was not unlike that of 4-switch and I couldn't help but feel a little guilty watching her. She put on all the moves you'd seen before, but it was when she looked in my direction, square in my eyes, that I knew she had just danced some new moves only for me. I downed the last of my drink, wiped my mouth, and walked up to the stage. Suddenly the music got louder, the patrons more rowdy, and the smoke got thicker. And she...danced harder. It was then that I reached into my pocket and loosed the three thousand pennies I had saved up onto the stage. Without a word she jumped off the stage and into my arms. She gave me a look like 4-switch used to. Her eyes said "Take me home". I asked her name. "Flashback 2" she replied. I fell in love all over again. It was a brisk night and Flashback 2 was wearing but woodgrain. Fortunately a cab pulled up and took us away from Marley's. The evening had waned into the forbidden hours when only creatures of the night have business. The sky was blanketed in clouds and the night was illuminated only by the occasional street light. It was but Flashback 2 and I that mattered at that moment. We were in bliss. Just then I heard a voice, "She'll never be true". It was a voice I had not heard in years, and attributable to a face long in the past: 4-switch! I could see glints of chrome outside my window. I turned to Flashback 2 but she didn't seem to notice anything or hear any voices. From behind I heard a whipping sound like someone swinging a power supply by its cord. Then I heard the bang of the power supply on the trunk, followed shortly by more whipping. This continued as another image appeared that I could only attribute to the beverages I consumed and the guilt in my heart. The gear shifter turned into a CX40. Then the steering wheel turned into a paddle controller. "She can never replace me!" came that voice again. Then the cab driver turned around and wore the face of the only one who belonged to that voice. "Noo!" I screamed and lunged for the paddle/wheel. I turned it with all my heart but it maxed out after only about one hundred twenty degrees of rotation. I never heard the sound of the cab plunging into the ravine and coming to a stop in front of a once-proud tree. I never saw the cab driver get hurled through the windshield. As I came to I looked over to Flashback 2 only to see an empty seat and the accusing face of my long lost love, my one and only 4-switch.

Yes! That would almost be worth buying an XBox 360 for. I'm talking total speed control and "match speed with enemy" functionality, not that lame "speed boost/temporary slow down" crap they put in Rogue Squadron/Leader. Fine games otherwise but unnecessarily frustrating because of that alone. Again, yes! Even better if they can get the same voice actors back. I think LucasArts should resurrect their point 'n' click adventures. Bonus points if they're hand-drawn and not mannequin-looking 3-D models. I also want to see more flight sims like A-10 Attack/Cuba. I'll refrain from my full-on rant about that genre (mainly because I've already vented in past threads ) but I like to throw that out every chance I get. I also want to see a mass space exploration game like Starflight (as seen on Genesis). - Jason

Would you buy a Revolution if launched with Mario?
Emehr replied to Dones's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
If the game play is more "Super Mario World" than "Super Mario Sunshine", you bet. I don't know what it is about Mario 64 and Sunshine but I absolutely cannot stand to play them. The weird thing is I own both games and go back to them, oh, every six months or so because I'm sure I'm missing out on some fantastic experience. Yet, the power goes off after five minutes of annoying platform jumping or sliding down a slippery slope. I didn't vote because frankly I'm getting annoyed at polls too . - Jason -
Haven't seen them for sale at Target yet. And I'm not desperate enough to dodge the empty-cart wielding lobots in W*M to get one there. Plus, I'd like to wait for Rev. B if that's still in the works. If/when that happens, I'll be getting 2 or 3. One to keep sano, one to cartridge-mod, and one for back-up if I eff up the cart hack. This isn't counting the FB2 I'll be gifting. - Jason

Nice score! All those instructions are icing on the cake. - Jason

very much so. they have a steady supply of $3 2600 games, pretty much all common. every now and then you can get lucky though, like when i found a silver gravitar and the black jack picture label there. 932981 Or a CIB Atari Video Cube I always liked going into Game Dude. I didn't feel like I was getting the stare-down like when I walk into a GameXchange around here. Plus, before I left, they started amassing a mini-Atari museum in one of their glass cases. - Jason

Gotta go with Genesis. I was so excited when it came out because it had two of the Sega games I enjoyed most at the arcade: Altered Beast and Golden Axe! Oh, yeah! And not trying to start a debate or anything, but I would classify the SegaCD and 32X as being their own systems. After all, they have their own library of games. The fact that they depend on a host system really shouldn't matter. If it does, how would one classify the JVC X'Eye or the Wondermega? There's actually a thread with this related discussion that's probably not even a year old. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I would follow the Genesis vote with the SegaCD in second place, followed by the Dreamcast, SMS, then the 32X. And I'm basing this solely on the number of games I own for each system. - Jason

LOL, as kids my brothers and I would try to get dibs on being the triple planes. Kinda like calling shotgun. "You have to be the bomber!" Ahh, the memories. - Jason

Is Game Dude still in business? They're in North Hollywood on Sherman Way(?) if I remember correctly. I think my 32X AC adaptor still has their foil sticker on it with their address if you need more detail than that. I used to live, like 2 miles from them in 2000. All Atari 2600 and 7800 games were $3. The punks there got a good chuckle out of the name "Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes" when I went to purchase it. - Jason

To me it's not so much a matter of inferior versions, rather it's on a system that has the minimum capabilities for pulling off a game to its full gameplay potential. Take Tetris as an example. The 2600 is barely capable of pulling it off without losing something in the translation. Not a game I'd necessarily want to own on that system (as much as I love my 4-switch woody). On the other end of the spectrum, an SNES or PS1 are overkill. The NES, however, has the ability to fully represent this game without holding back its full power. Even though I own 'Battletoads' and 'Battletoads & Double Dragon' for Genesis, I would rather have the NES versions. I'm not actively seeking to replace them, but I'd rather own games that were "made for" a particular generation. On a brief but related tangent, I guess that's why emulation will never "do it" for me. - Jason

Frankly I'd rather see the return of Full Throttle or some other LucasArts point'n'click adventure. While the humor in Sam&Max was great, I hated the puzzles, which consisted of such obscurity as "use chewed bubble gum on scissors with yarn to open door" (well, not exactly that, but you get the drift). After playing through Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle I thought the design in Sam&Max was a step back. I feel the same way about the Monkey Island game for PS2. Great humor, but obscure-as-heck puzzles. But hey, if this new Sam&Max has more logical puzzles then I'm all for it. - Jason

There's three separate versions of the MC trackball hack; the CX-80 version didn't work for me (despite having a CX-80); another one did, though I don't remember which. 931416 Didn't even think to try the other hacks. For the record, it's the CX-22 hack that does the trick. Tested it last night. Worked like a charm! - Jason

I would think a commercial title would be one where the programmer is actually getting paid to write code. Nonetheless, I don't see the need for distinction here given the relatively small library of titles released after the demise of the Lynx. How about just renaming the thread "Best Post-Mortem Lynx Title"? - Jason

For Classic MacOS users (anyone? LOL) I have PF Painter (formerly Stella Playfield Editor). It doesn't have any shape drawing capabilities and is still a work in progress but it gets the job done. Also, I fixed the click 'n' drag so it doesn't skip pixels no matter how fast you move the mouse. - Jason PFPainter.zip

I tried that hack through my Supercharger with my CX-80 trackball. No dice. The cursor just jiggles in place. I've tried it in JS and TB mode. Am I missing something? [insert Beavis & Butthead laugh here] - Jason

Unfortunately I don't own any homebrews at the moment. BTW, you have Championship Rally listed twice! And how about Alpine Games? - Jason

Gotta love the Metroid games. The only one I don't have (and therefore haven't beat) is Echoes. I needed a breather after finishing Prime. May have to get it soon. Can't...hold out...much longer... - Jason

Maze Craze - super easy maze, essentially a grid. Push right to win!

Never understood the Resident Evil appeal myself. It was the first game I bought for my GameCube and it's the least played. One can only get lunged at by a zombie while trying to defend with a little knife so many times before it gets old. Give me Alone in the Dark 3 any day. As for Final Fantasy, eh, it's OK. I've only tried FF1 for NES, FF2 (FF4j) and FF3 (FF6j?) for SNES, and FFVII. I beat VII and haven't played it since. Got into Chrono Cross for a little while. That held my attention a lot longer than the Final Fantasy games I didn't beat. Plus, it didn't have annoying random "bite me in the ass" encounters. I dunno, there are so many games. And life is too short to spend too much time on just one. - Jason

Anyone have the original 1984 version of the 7800?
Emehr replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 7800
Mine has an expansion port. If that makes it a 1984-1986 model then yes, yes I do. Bought it from someone I knew in the late 80's, don't remember the exact year. - Jason -
What genre do you feel is underepresented on 2600?
Emehr replied to salstadt's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I agree 100%. During the time of Gunfight's label design contest I was duly inspired and began designing a western game where you play a bandit (after some attempts to actually design a label for your game ). The goal was to acquire as much cash as you could before you got caught (or killed). The more towns you rob, the more notorious you become and the harder it gets not to get busted. Features include: -> Get challenged by others wanting to reap the rewards of bringing you to justice! Take ten paces back and draw! -> You're just another Sunday churchgoer...until the donation basket comes your way! -> Getting pursued? Destroy bridges that link towns. That'll slow 'em down! -> Beware of the scorching sun. Be sure you have enough water when travelling between towns. Anyway, I always thought a western adventure for the 2600 would be loads of fun. Low tech, seat of your pants action! - Jason -
If I were to buy a PSP it wouldn't be to watch movies. Plus, I already bought Spider-Man 2 thank-you-very-much. - Jason

Whoops! I'll fix it when I get off work later. Thanks for catching that. - Jason EDIT: Fixed!
