  1. The winner of the day ticket to Revival was David Dewson. Congratulations David!
  2. UK retro gaming fans, be quick and you could win a day ticket to Revival Summer Solstice by answering a simple question : http://www.binarystarsoftware.com/?p=314
  3. We shall be showing Nox / Death Chase (as well as Galaxy Wars/Space Launcher and lightgun games) at Revival Summer Solstice : http://www.revivalretroevents.co.uk/index.php/news1/68-revival-solstice-2017 We should be bringing a few copies for sale at the event. I'll be wearing this : Come say hi!
  4. Interesting. I've used sampled audio on Vectrex before but I used the method of modulating the volume. I thought that was what Spike did too? Does anyone have any code examples of doing this and bypassing the sound chip? Playing back/remixing a drumloop on Vectrex :
  5. Can you explain the "Direct modulation of the speaker via the 6809 itself" part?
  6. Yeah, the built in speaker makes it sound great imo. Its a pretty average sound chip. Nowhere as good as the likes of the c64s SID or even the NES or Gameboy sound chips. The Vectrex sound chip only produces square waves, you cannot alter PWM. However, you can generate some very cool sounding tones and effects by using the amplitude modulation feature of the chip.
  7. The ,manuals arrived yesterday. That was the final part to be printed so we are aiming to release probably around the end of the month.
  8. Cartridge labels arrived today. GWSL will be released as soon as box and instructions are printed.
  9. Manuals and box should be printed very soon, so not long now. I received the labels today.
  10. Version 1.02 update can now be downloaded from my website. The new version minimises timing drift, and allows adjustment of speed by holding down button 3 and pressing left or right on joystick. Button 4 toggles minutes/seconds dots on/off. http://binarystarsoftware.com/bin/VectorClockv102.BIN
  11. Just for fun. Free download : http://www.binarystarsoftware.com/?p=300
  12. It supports the Atari driving controller. Should be finally released soon, just getting packaging printed atm. Added a small hidden game too :
  13. Updated the Super Simon ROM to v1.01, which removes the wait until the last note faded before allowing input of the next, speeding up the rate of play.
  14. Super Simon. Free ROM Download for lightgun/lightpen owners : http://www.binarystarsoftware.com/?p=295
  15. Yeah, no problem. I just remapped the pins using this info : www.gamesx.com/controldata/vectrex.htm and segaretro.org/Light_Phaser#Pinout SMS Pin 7 (Light sensor) to Vectrex Pin 4 (Button 4) SMS Pin 6 (Trigger) to Vectrex Pin 3 (Button 3) SMS Pin 5 (VCC) to Vectrex Pin 7 (VCC) SMS Pin 8 (GND) to Vectrex Pin 8 (GND) I'm developing games using this pinout. Of course this still requires you to press buttons on the controller in port 1 for the original Vectrex lightpen releases but it'd be simple to make an adapter with 2 db9 plugs for use with those games. I chose pin 3 for trigger so we could make an adapter with passthrough for Atarivox (which uses pins 1 and 2 to communicate) or Atari driving controller. I'll be selling a lightgun game pack and lightgun adapter cables soon. Keep an eye on my website. Here's a short preview of another lightgun compatible game I'm working on.
  16. Now supports light-gun (with adapter)
  17. Added lightgun support to Whack-a-mole
  18. no, you can easily target from a metre or more away.

    Light Gun

I built a Sega Light Phaser to Vectrex adapter today. Here's a quick (and low quality) video of me using it with Animaction.
  20. Added lightpen support.
  21. Just a bit of fun with Vecvox/Atarivox+
  22. Ooops last one had audio muted.
