Jaguar CD Unleashed: the CD BIOS emulation project
Willard replied to Songbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
Because the SD cart is supposed to do the same thing? As neither is completed yet I guess it's still nice to have both projects running alongside each other. I remember anticipating the JagCF -
It'd be great to see an SD card on the Jaguar with or without the networking feature, although the gui idea sound nice. CD support would free up some much needed power strip space and make the Jaguar a little more shelf-friendly too

Anybody who 'collects' (like you or me) is still going to want the originals, and in the end it'll be up to supply and demand to dictate the price. Personally I think if enough people use a flash option to check out games and then buy the best ones, you may see more people going after originals of the better ones. Considering the Jaguar gets a pretty bad rap by the general gaming community I think an SD option is more likely to turn unfavorable opinions favorable than favorable opinions unfavorable. I wonder how many people actually begrudgingly collect originals right now, ready to dump their collection as soon as a flash solution drops? That doesn't mean it will sell, although it wouldn't surprise me if it did Retro gaming prices in general are going up, it's just prices responding to the popularity of the hobby (and some might say kids who grew up with the games now having more money to buy them). You can find plenty of examples of games that used to sell for $10-$20 that are now climbing to pretty absurd prices, some extreme ones off the top of my head: Keio Flying Squadron ($893) Crusader of the Centy ($909) Clay Fighter Sculpters Cut - $1,162 for just the manual Donkey Kong Competition Cart (2,826.30) These games can easily be played on flash carts / are commonly repro'd / can be burnd to disc. In the case of Battlesphere I think it's unfortunate that the original authors won't produce more or allow a 3rd party to do it for the benefit of charity. I remember Jason Smith offered to do it and was turned down, and he was pretty good friends with the devs.

Here is a promo video (which features no actual gameplay footage). Cyberroach suggests that that it probably didn't get very far. Sounds like it was no big loss (a lethal enforcers style Jaguar CD game), although an exclusive NERF game done right on the Jaguar would've been pretty cool. https://youtu.be/OblkxM7Tnn0

I suppose time will tell. There is the potential such an offering will stabilize prices (apprehensive to use the word "crater" though!). There is also the potential that it will dramatically increase them. It may attract more people to the scene, and we might see the "less regarded" games remain about the same but the more "highly regarded" games start to further bloat up in price. Platforms that play burned discs or that have readily accessible SD cards still have countless games that are becoming incredibly expensive. Either way the people who are constantly whining about prices AND don't mind flash-like options will be satisfied. It is surprising how much momentum prices have gotten though - just when you think they can't get any higher the do

I can try to dig out my old capture card (don't know where I put it) and put up a video but I can't say for sure when. Otherwise I may get a new capture card, as it's long overdue. You can search youtube for a video of Aircars. The only difference between KA Aircars and Aircars (visually) is KA Aircars having: More detailed title screen Bigger explosions with debri (original Aircars has no debri, things just fold when they are destroyed) Slightly smaller dashboard Sky color varies by level (always black in the original Aircars) From a gameplay perspective the only real benefit is that KA Aircars displays the number of primary targets remaining, so you know how much longer you'll be spending in a level. Personally I've always liked Aircars gameplay but never though it was a good looking game.

Right, no responses have been sent out yet. As mentioned previously, we are delaying it to do a few things like: Re-do the clamshell art in higher resolution and make a few changes to the addendum and back description to add a little extra information. Considering die-cut foam for the clamshell to add a more customized and cleaner appearance. specs Have been sent off to the plant for a sample cut, will see how that turns out Just some small things that have pushed back the release date a little... plan is about a week from now. Note the carts for the first batch are done, just thought people would feel that the improvements we are making would be worth a little extra time. Did not mean for it to take this long (sorry to everyone for the delay), we didn't intend to change anything from the first run when we made this announcement.

Toki for the 7800 PAL / NTSC Edition Cartridge POLL
Willard replied to Willard's topic in Atari 7800
-
I think two different games are getting confused here... There was a genesis game called "Toki: Going Ape Spit" and a cancelled Jaguar game titled "Apeshit." Apeshit on the Jaguar was probably not related to the Toki games.
-
I was just looking at the original Aircars manual and noticed that it's actually a manual for the KA version (has the KA Aircars dashboard / primary target counter .etc in the diagram). Weird... I wonder if they accidentally ran a proto for the retail release or something. Anyway, quick update: The first batch was reserved the first day this thread was posted (and orders tapered off pretty quickly the following couple days ). But there will definitely be two different batches being made, so if you don't get an order confirmation when we post our next update here, you'll probably get an acknowledgement that you're on the second batch soon after. Some people asked some questions, responses will be sent when we start taking orders. We have decided to slightly delay the release to improve the packaging a little (should be one more week maximum).

When I played it in MAME, there was no slowdown (from what I can remember) in the sound or gameplay in the PAL version, but there was in certain spots in the NTSC version (of course this may differ on actual hardware). This corresponds to what RevEng said, that the NTSC conversion introduced some noticeable vertical scrolling issues and (in certain spots) some minor horizontal scrolling issues. It seems in the NTSC version the vertical issues are a bit of choppiness while the horizontal issues are slowdown. He mentioned it might be improvable but not without a lot of additional work.

Toki for the 7800 PAL / NTSC Edition Cartridge POLL
Willard replied to Willard's topic in Atari 7800
To echo what RevEng said, and point a few things out: -If you have the capability to play PAL games then the PAL version is recommended because some small compromises were made for the version that was converted to NTSC, as RevEng noted. Still, RevEng did a good job and judging by the polls his work has made the game accessible to a good number of people that otherwise wouldn't have been able to experience the game on their NTSC hardware. -Trebor's video is of the NTSC version. You will notice this if you visit the video on youtube but he did not note this on AA (just wanted to point it out ). -
Toki for the 7800 PAL / NTSC Edition Cartridge POLL
Willard replied to Willard's topic in Atari 7800
I will post a video prior to release, but unfortunately do not have a flash cart so cannot post one before I receive the carts. I'm dying to play this on the actual hardware No modifications to the graphics or sound were done. Once the ROM is made available, people may of course make any desired changes. The intention of this release is to preserve the version we discovered, as it most closely resembles what Atari would've released. No pre-order at this time. Prior to that I'd like to have a video and a sample of the finished cart (with label .etc) so that people have more information from which to decide whether they want a cart or not. -
Toki for the 7800 PAL / NTSC Edition Cartridge POLL
Willard replied to Willard's topic in Atari 7800
As mentioned in the Toki discovery thread, we will be releasing the ROM, shortly after we make the cartridges available -
For everyone previously following our discovery of Toki for the 7800, this poll will also double as an update We are currently preparing for a cartridge release of Toki. Originally this game was discovered in PAL format, but thanks to the efforts of RevEng, an NTSC version of the game has been produced as well. A region-free version of the game is not possible because the PAL and NTSC ROMS are distinctly different. If you are interested in a cartridge copy of this game, please select PAL or NTSC in the poll above. We will be using the poll results to determine interest in the game by region.

I store my games in a drawer and use white Dymo labels. Those end labels on ebay look great, although it would've been nice if they sold a sheet of stickers that don't have logos - just white boxes to write a name into. My problem is that there aren't stickers for ALL the games
-
going off ebay, I'd say for complete copies it ranges from $35-$50 depending on the condition. Surprised how few completed copies have gone off ebay recently, used to be pretty common.
-
@Guitari it looks like you have a ICD Aircars and a KA Aircars. This release isn't anything you don't already have.
-
I will be sending a return email next week when we are ready to ship, which should be next week. The tentative prices are on our website. KA Aircars will be $69.99 or less (the tentative doesn't mean we'll charge more if there is a lot of interest ). The shipping price of $10 US and $15 Worldwide was what we charged a few years ago. Having read the Songbird Catalog Update thread, Carl said the USPS has been increasing prices and is quoting $40 for shipping a DVD style package... so I can't say for sure that the price will still be $15 worldwide but we will do our best to ensure the most reasonable shipping method is selected. I will try to provide a solid number on that soon.

Yes, it will include an eeprom save. We remember that well, because we had some with the eeprom, some without it, and had to handle a bunch of replacements. We specifically addressed that issue before beginning this batch and I will be inspecting the boards and testing them individually before shipping. Lesson learned We are hoping to have the Lynx stuff available relatively soon too, as our plan for the past several months (which kept getting delayed) was to get our site completely online with our products back in stock (with a few exceptions) and a bunch of new features. These will be distributed in the standard clamshell that was used for mad bodies and the beta preservation pack. It will have foam inside to hold the cart in place like those releases. Gaztee sells some well made Aircars boxes (and apparently, manuals too) which I'd highly recommend if you want a box and manual of original specification as we have no current plans to produce a box ourselves.

I did some basic averages for a couple of games (for example, AVP =2363876/52223 = $45.27 / Copy). Trevor McFur averaged about $31.5 / Copy which makes sense because it had been out long enough that a lot of copies sold were probably discounted. But I agree it'd be interesting to see this evaluated for some additional information! It might shed more light onto why some of the games were cancelled and more high profile ports/original games weren't developed if they could reach sales numbers like AVP or DOOM. The Atari Museum has a developer payment schedule that I think would be interesting note in combination with sales info and margin info.
-
I don't think those games were released at the time (the ones with no asterisk and with 6 as number of sales). I'm not sure the reason for having them included on the list, especially since we know a few of them never came close to completion. Unfortunately, the only sales figures we had are on that document.
-
As some discussion about the number of Jaguar's sold comes up in the Jaguar forums once in awhile (despite no solid figures that I can recall), I thought it'd be nice to share a document that Buddybuddies and I came across that discloses lifetime sales of Jaguar games. This is only through April 1995 but I think it's still an interesting look at how the Jaguar was doing. I have attached the document to this post but you can also see it on our website. Although our site keeps getting constantly delayed (even by recent estimates), we are hoping to provide some other interesting features in the near future. Jaguar Lifetime Sales Complete 600dpi.pdf

We are happy to announce that we are currently working with B&C Computervisions to produce another run of KA Aircars. You can find out more about KA Aircars on our website here. We are currently finishing the first batch and it should be available in about a week. If you would like a copy, please email betaphasegamesorders@yahoo.com Payment is not necessary until you get an email confirming the game is ready to ship. This run is being done in response to a few recent requests to make more copies available. Because of some uncertainty due to slow sales of the first batch, we are handling this a little differently than usual: We have pre-made a batch that will ship in about a week. If interest exceeds the quantity we produced, we will be using the pre-order list to determine how many more to produce and make additional carts. Extras will be made, so this release model is not intended to provide a small window of availability. We’ve noticed some other cool Jaguar releases coming out soon, if you want KA Aircars but also want another game, don’t worry about passing on KA Aircars for now, it’ll still be here This contents of this release will be the same as the last print of KA Aircars: Numbered clamshell with color insert (numbering system is intended to disclose number of sales for anyone who is interested) Cartridge with color label Duplicate of the original Aircars manual (the manual B&C includes with their regular version of aircars) Addendum highlighting the differences between the original version and the KA Version, plus some Atari test reports. “Jaguar Rules!”

I like Ruiner Pinball I think you'd get better answers if you asked something like "can anyone recommend some decent titles that are under a certain dollar value (eg $20)." These days some might consider a game in the $40 range "inexpensive."
