This is one of my favorite games right now, very addictive. I passed everything on medium difficulty, and only have a couple of songs left on hard. I just passed Crossroads and Bark At The Moon on hard the other day, and I was very happy. I must have played Crossroads about 20 times before I finally passed it! Jim

I don't see what the big deal is here. Others have already done the work creating menus that are comprehensive. What's wrong with him asking these people to share the work they've already done. It doesn't matter whether he can do it or not. If others have done something useful, they should share it, if they can. The last time I checked the internet, there are several communities that share the work they do. How many people use emulators that others have written? There are many other examples of this. Just my $.02. Jim

Proudest Video Gaiming Moment?
adonis_minus_20 replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My proudest moment had to be when I scored over 5 million on Asteroids (Arcade). I played for over 10 hours straight, and had over 200 ships when I stopped playing (they went across the whole top of the screen and disappeared at the other side). I only stopped playing because I got tired. My score was 9th in the U.S. at the time, and I had a large crowd watching throughout the whole game (different people over time). Jim -
What 360 games are so great anyway
adonis_minus_20 replied to msaeger's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
The killer app as far as I'm concerned is DOA 4. If you like fighting games, I highly recommend it. The online play is great fun. Jim -
A man after my own heart. I am a Morgan Webb fan as well. Electric Playground is good for the girls also, Julie Stoffer and the other girl who always has her little b00bs out. You just have to realize that G4 is about teh secks, with a little of video game stuff thrown in. Jim

I have a problem with any game that has a map, and you have to move around and find things or do things (a lot of games today are like this). I have a terrible sense of direction, and really struggle with that kind of stuff. I'm not saying the warriors is a complicated game, it's not. It is a beat em up, but it has that open free roaming kind of GTA feel. I never got into the GTA games, I suck at them too. You should have seen me just trying to get through one of the early levels where you need to spray paint stuff and steal car radios. It probably took me more than an hour to get through those levels! I usually just play fighting games, like DOA, Tekken, KOF, SF, etc. Jim These types of games? It's a beat em up! ala Double Dragon or Final Fight... It's not another GTA (although of course it has some elements of it) 953479[/snapback]

I can't believe you guys dissin' the warriors. I loved the movie, I saw it when it first came out in 1979. I was very excited about the game. The only problem I have, is that I'm not very good at these type of games. I wind up wandering around in whatever level I'm in, and it takes me forever to get through any mission. I just suck at these games. The game is a lot of fun though. I recommend it whether you like the movie or not. Jim

My first reaction to the controller was that it sucks, mostly in regard to how one would play conventional games with it (or next-gen games that would have a traditional control scheme). I think there are great possibilities for new types of gameplay, and I will probably buy it anyway (I have all 3 of the current gen), but I'm concerned about "old-style" type games that require standard controls. I think it would have been better if Nintendo offered this remote control as an add-on, with a standard design controller for the other games. This would be a win-win for everyone. Offer new games that would take advantage of the add-on contoller, and offer standard fare for the old controller. I'm a sucker for gimmicky specialized controllers. I know there was a picture of a standard controller attached to the remote control one, although I don't think it was official. If Nintendo is going to do things this way, let people know, and provide pictures. I think people would be more forgiving if they saw from the start that a standard type controller would also be available (it would be nice if it came with the system at no extra charge, but we all know how that works). Hi, I have some Japanese Taiko Games for PS2 available (you need to be able to play imports). They are all in perfect mint condition. I take Paypal for payment (both electronic transfers and credit cards), and will ship using USPS Priority mail. Shipping will probably be around $3 - $4 for each, and less if items are combined. My Ebay id is adonis_minus_20, and I am a reliable person to deal with buying or selling. I'll try to sell on message boards first, and then go to Ebay if need be. Here's what I have with prices listed without shipping (all firm): Taiko no Tatsujin - $42 Taiko no Tatsujin Doki! - $39 Taiko no Tatsujin Special Pack (2 games: Taiko no Tatsujin 3rd Generation & Taiko no Tatsujin: Animated Cartoon Festival in one box. Limited Edition comes with a set of cute Taiko stickers in perfect mint condition) - $69 Taiko no Tatsujin 4th Generation: Gathering Festival - $29 Taiko no Tatsujin 5 - $39 Taiko no Tatsujin Super Animehit - $35 Post or PM if interested. Thanks. Jim

***It's sold now, thanks.*** Hi all, I have a brand new Platinum Gamecube for sale that has been modded with the Qoob PRO chip. The chip was professionally installed, and flashed with the 1.3b version BIOS. It comes new in the box with all manuals, controller, standard A/V cable, USB cable for flashing the chip from the PC, and power supply. The website for the Qoob modchips is www.qoobchip.com. They have downloads available for the BIOS and a flashing tool that runs from the PC. The main purpose of the chip is to run homebrew software, imports, and GC-Linux (there's a list of a bunch of features on their website). The Gamecube new would go for $99. The Qoob PRO chip sells for $54. I'm asking for $175 shipped and it's yours. I'm already taking a loss on this at this price, so the price is firm. My Ebay id is the same as my id on this site: adonis_minus_20. I've been mostly a buyer, but I've sold a couple of things as well, and my feedback is excellent. I would sell this on Ebay, but they would probably pull the auction due to the modchip (although this chip and present BIOS does NOT support running backups). Payment for this could be done via Paypal or USPS Money order. I accept electronic transfers and Credit cards via Paypal. Thanks. Jim

I've seen the term "recertified" used before, which is a new product sold to a customer who then returned it. There is nothing wrong with it, but it still can't be sold as "new". It's inspected, and if all of the original contents and packaging are present, and it's not defective or damaged, then it's labeled as "recertified". It's like an open box kind of thing. Jim

I remember the threads where people posted links to their entire CC2 setup (romdb text file and roms and all) to copy directly to MMC. I tried looking for links and now I can't find them (although I did see the CC2 threads still). Does someone have the latest setup for the CC2 (all roms, homebrews, romdb text file, etc) and would be willing to make it available again? I know some people on the board had some good setups for this. It's your chance to show off! Thanks in advance. Jim

Nintendo does it again....
adonis_minus_20 replied to Starscream's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I don't post much, but wanted to give my $.02 to this thread. First off, I have all three consoles of the current generation. I don't have any loyalty to any one company or game maker. I only look for and play games that are fun for me. I love the old Nintendo games, Super Mario games and such (mainly the NES and SNES ones), but the new stuff from them has kind of left me cold. When Mario and company transitioned into 3D, they kind of lost me (even with the N64). The main reason, I believe, that people like the Gamecube is for the Nintendo only games, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc., because the support for the third party games is not so good. The problem for me, is that the exclusive Nintendo games are just not fun for me anymore (I wish they would just let Mario die and move on to something new and fresh). However, I don't look down on anyone that prefers the GC over the other consoles. Everyone should just play the games they like. Also, what I enjoy the most is to play games online. It is probably the biggest factor in deciding which system I will buy a game for. Nintendo has totally missed the boat with this, Sony has some support for it, and Microsoft has become a pioneer. I don't really care at all about HD support. So out of the three current consoles, I play my XBOX the most, PS2 second, and then the GC. I'm not into FPS or GTA style games, I mainly like fighting games and a few racing games. My favorite game is Dead Or Alive, and the only way I can play this online is via XBOX. I'm getting the XBOX 360, mainly because it will have the next DOA4 game, and will continue the strong focus on online gaming that is important to me. I will buy the other next gen consoles only if they have exclusives that I can't do without. This may be the first generation that I don't get a Nintendo console, but I'll have to see what games are available, and what online support they come up with. If they come up with something truly revolutionary (I'll even settle for something just a little different), I will buy it. If it is just another repackaging of the same Mario games that I already own, I will pass. Jim -
I forget the people here who complain about the PS2 controller and prefer the XBOX one (I happen to agree). Well I was looking on Lik-Sang for something else and stumbled across this: XBOX -> PS2 adapter It converts an XBOX controller to work on the PS2! I don't know if someone else already posted this, so forgive me, if that's the case. Enjoy, Jim Edit: The link was bad, try again.

Gamertag: adonisminus20 I mostly play Dead Or Alive Ultimate (DOA2), although I have some other live titles. I'm very happy, as I've worked my way up to a B+ grade! Jim

I think even if it is a small subset of the total number of owners of consoles that go online with their games (right now), Microsoft is laying an incredible foundation with their XBox Live. I love playing games online, and the XBox has a huge advantage in this arena. For $50/year, you can play as much as you want with any game that supports online play (no fees per game as some on the PS2 have). I think that is a great deal. The XBox has a huge advantage over PS2, and certainly over the Gamecube in regard to online play. At least for me, there are many titles that I will pass over for the other systems, if I know that the XBox version will support XBox Live (and most titles for the XBox do). I also do own a PS2 and a Gamecube, and enjoy those systems as well, but I think that Sony and Nintendo should underestimate the importance of online play at their peril. How long will it take to build up an online service for a game console to large proportions? I'm not sure, but Microsoft has a huge head-start here, and I don't see them giving up this advantage anytime soon (unless Sony puts something serious together with their own online alternative for PS3). I need info from a PS/PS2 lightgun game guru
adonis_minus_20 replied to Blackjack's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I have a bunch of lightgun games for PS1/PS2 and here's what I've seen with these games and guns: Guncon1 games like the Point Blank series, Time Crisis/Time Crisis: Project Titan, and Jesse James: Gun Fighters definitely work with a Guncon1 on both PS1 and PS2 (I've never tried these with a Guncon2). The connector for the Guncon1 is the regular connector for a PS1/PS2 controller. Guncon2 games like Time Crisis 2 and 3 require a Guncon2. These games will not work with a Guncon1. The connector is different for the Guncon2 (it connects via the USB ports). I've tried to play Guncon2 games with a Guncon1 gun and the game would not even recognize the gun. Non-Guncon PS1 games like Area 51 and Lethal Enforcers require a non-Guncon gun and will not work with a Guncon1/Guncon2. I have some lightguns that have switches on them to specify the mode (non-Guncon and Guncon1). I also have a lightgun that works for all three (non-Guncon, Guncon1, and Guncon2), and has two connectors (a regular PS1/PS2 connector for the non-Guncon and Guncon1 games and a USB connector for the Guncon2 games). Hope this helps. Jim -
I used to have the same real arcade controller that you're talking about and it is incompatible with the PS to DC adapters. There is something about how it is made such that this is so. When I found this out, I returned mine (I didn't care for it very much anyway). Your best bet would be to hack a PS pad to real arcade controls and then use an adapter for DC (it will definitely work). Another option would be to go with the X-Arcade controller and their DC adapter. Jim Hmmm. So the Real arcade didn't work in Digital or analog modes? I couldn't get it to work in either mode, it just wouldn't respond to any button presses correctly, maybe it was my adapters. Jim

Sony to unveil next console in May
adonis_minus_20 replied to moycon's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
First I'll say that I have a PS2 and a Gamecube. I would have an XBOX also and some games, but I don't have the cash for anymore gaming stuff at the moment (just to eliminate any fanboy ideas). For me, I mostly miss the use of the d-pad in newer games, as I don't like having to use the analog stick on any of the controllers, and have difficulty controlling anything precisely with it. I do prefer the Gamecube controller over the PS/PS2, because of the position of the left analog stick. It just feels more natural for me to have it as on the Gamecube (or the Dreamcast controller or Saturn nights controller). What I wish they would do with all of these new controllers and games is to have two versions. One would be a d-pad only version with all of the other buttons, with the d-pad in position as it is on the Dualshock, but not their lousy d-pad (a good one like on the Saturn controller). Another would be with the analog stick in position as on the Gamecube controller (or Dreamcast controller). The other part of this would be that all software written, inasmuch as possible, would work with either the d-pad or the analog stick version controller. If all of this were true, I would be very happy! Also, adaptors for all the available controllers and systems wouldn't hurt either! Jim -
Systems with known problems: How bad were they?
adonis_minus_20 replied to goatdan's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
In defense of the poor toaster NES, yes it does have a very well known and common problem, but it's super easy to fix. The only needed tool is a phillips screwdriver. I personally wouldn't put the reason that the toaster style NES is easy to fix as my defensive reason for not thinking the system is bad. I would put the fact that particular problem did not seem to overly affect systems until after the life cycle was over as the reason that I think it is totally excusable. I was in school when the NES was super popular, and I never remember hearing that one had broken and someone got a replacement... until well after the SNES had been out. I got the impression that the toaster style NES had problems since its release, but did not have one back in the day to see that this was not so. I bought one a bit ago, and it had issues, so I replaced the connector, and it worked great for a while. It developed problems again, although I cleaned my carts before each time playing, and then I just bought a toploader. I thought the toaster model was a POS. I don't have any problems with any other systems I've had, from Pong systems up to Gamecube and PS2. Jim -
I've been reading all of these controversial threads as of late, and they are very funny. I don't have any bad feelings about any of the companies or consoles that are out there currently or ever have been, for any reason in and of themselves. What I don't like is poorly made hardware or games that are overpriced and not very enjoyable to play. I never look to buy a console because of who makes it, but only for what games I can play on it (and the quality/durability of the hardware, good controllers, etc.). I started with gaming back in the days of the home Pong systems and Atari 2600. I moved on to the Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, PSX, Saturn, DC, Gamecube, and finally PS2. I don't have an XBox only because, I don't have any more available cash to go out and buy one, and yes there are games I want to play on XBox too. I want it all! People are certainly entitled to their opinion, but it doesn't seem to be very constructive to say that this system sucks, or there are no good games for that system, and everyone knows that they are only trolling for a reaction. The only time I have a problem with a system or company is when they put out an inferior product, e.g. toaster style NES (I have a toploader now). Personally, I only care about who the leader is in console sales, to the extent that they don't get complacent. I want to see all of these companies push themselves and come up with amazing things to try and convince us to buy their system and games. Jim

Thanks for uploading your stuff bigmike and mot. This will be a big help when my CC2 finally arrives. Jim
-
What about this? I haven't gotten my CC2 yet (I paid via Paypal), but I'm sure someone already has the complete set of roms with all of the homebrews and such already compiled with the menu generator for the 2600 and 7800. How big is this image? Can we get it hosted somewhere? Jim
