  1. I HATE rpg's, but for some reason I finished PS1 for the first time earlier this summer and thought it was pretty good. I'm in the middle of PS2 now because it wanted to do it in order so i can have some grasp of the story (which is actually quite compelling). I'm gonna skip PSIII because i guess its really considered just a side story. PS2 is extremely difficult. i hate to say this but what works is the grind - the ageold act of fighting the same monsters over and over again to gain some extra levels. Alot of the monsters can get damn near impossible but if you level up enough, you can get somewhat overpowered and take them out with very little effort
  2. ive been looking to buy a 7800 for some time now... that set looks pretty tempting
  3. yeah, they had said that they were gonna throw in a month of live for free... it kinda works out because i just renewed my sub for another 3 months and the card should make up for time i cant play it
  4. After about a month and a half, my second hand 360 finally got the RRoD (Red Ring of Death)... I knew it was only a matter of time before it happened, i just wish it didnt happen right before i was about to play halo. i called MS and, contrary to what ive been hearing from others about this same problem, they were surprisingly very helpful about it. they said the whole process would take about a month and then they would send it back to me. i guess if i was any other sort of gamer i would go into a case of the shakes because i didnt have anything else to play. but seeing as how im a huge retrogamer, i guess this would give me a chance to fire up the 2600 again, so i guess it was a blessing in disguise. i was just wondering if anyone here had any horror stories with the MS repair center... ya know to keep me occupied
  5. im sure it was just a memory issue. theres a lot of ports from various systems on both 16 bit systems that had to cut things out because of memory constraints.
  6. Its because they create the demand for the games. marvel v capcom 2 is a prime example. somehow they came into possession of nearly all of these games sit on them at the warehouse, then release them every so often and put an $80 price tag on it
  7. games w/o cases employees were able to take a certain % off the price... then i guess it became a huge LP issue, so now they cant. as far as something not being complete - you dont really have to buy the game if it doesnt have a real case or a manual. i, too, am very obsessive compulsive when it come to buying a game complete, but before we finish ringing it up, we tell them that its in a generic case with no instructions and if they still want to buy it. 9 times out of 10 they will say "yes" then they go on their merry way
  8. i kinda take offense to the "stop hiring idiots" remark.... im college educated and have been there for almost 5 years (graphic design is a tough field to get into)
  9. I remember playing a lot of face maker and transformers for the C64... i think transformers was the one where the battle sequences were in the first person on a static screen with the decepticons shooting at you, and when they hit you the screen would shake and black lines resembling cracks would come up on the screen. any sites with screenshots of all the games? theres a few i would like to know the names of, but cant really articulate what they look like very well
  10. Off the topic, but I too was a sucker for box art. if the box art was cool, I'd buy the game +1 on that... the main reason i bought the japenese symphony of the night... with no japanese PS1 to play it on... :/ a lot of the earlier 2600 art (haunted house, warlords, missle command, etc.) were incredible pieces of art. i guess the actual paintings are availabe if you dont mind spending some $$$.
  11. ::pours booze:: One for my homies If it wasnt for metroid, i would have abandoned games before i hit my teenage years
  12. the only times i go for boxed 2600 games is if its a game that im obsessed about. i have a complete mint "laser Blast" that I got for 3.99, and thats one of the jewels of my collection (along with my boxed Kool-Aid Man ). everything else im just happy to have the loose cart. My systems are a different story.... All my systems have to be boxed. not only for display purposes but for stackibility as well. i have the boxed systems in a closet and its very neat. they may not be the boxes they were purchased in when initially released, but they still have the boxes... That reminds me... i need to get back on that
  13. i actually have this game and its awesome, on the ps2 its crap, but the ps1 versions play like the classic tony hawks
  14. Ther's a TON of resources about this if you look in the right circles. I've been doing it for a good couple of years. its actually pretty fun once you learn the basics. theres a lot of windows or mac-based authors out there and you get a level up and running in about 10 minutes. the editor i use exclusivly is WadAuthor. its sector-based, meaning that you edit on a grid and not in 3D. its a little tough keeping track of height of rooms and such but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature. the DooM Wiki can give you a shitload of more info than i can
  15. i remember having one of these back in the day, and i thought it was awesome that "hang on" was built in
  16. once more, in no certain order: Genesis 2600 NES Saturn Dreamcast If I could do with just these systems, id be happy, but because im such a game whore, i have many more than this
  17. thanks for the birthday wish man

  18. i guess im one of the lucky ones (sorta)... ive had mine fr about 4 yrs (executer 2 chip w/ switch installed day 1 w/ 80gb hd and replaced the drive with a samsung so it can read cd-r's), and the only problem ive had has been from the shitty soldering job the jackass that installed the chip had done. i have about 1500 games on it for about 15(?) different systems, a few jap xbox games, boXlink (for online halo 1... sucks), some full length movies, about 3 gigs of music, the obligatory porn, and the ability to lock/unlock my hd so i can go nto XBL its my rom box... because im a rom whore... and im also incredibly lazy as i dont want to go through the hassle of hooking/unhooking my classic systems just to play 1 or 2 games
  19. I found it to be one of the few ultra-hyped games of the last generation that i actually enjoyed... the puzzles weren't too difficult for me (sometimes my intellect borderlines on mental retardation), and pandoras temple was one of my favorite parts of the game. i think i tended to stay with my modded xbox, classic systems, and ps1 games on my ps2 rather than play a ot of the games thatcame out. i havent tried the sequel yet... hopefully it wont take me a week to finish like the first game did
  20. I know this is a colorful exaggeration, but in truth the number's nowhere near that high. Some batches were made with a shoddy plastic that basically broke down and discolored itself over time. But i still see nice looking ones on a pretty consistent basis. I've owned about five at various times and none of them were yellowed at all. Very true... I got mine brand-new when i was 16 and the only discoloration ive had to worry about has been dust and/or dirt
  21. goddamn, thats a killer deal... i remember getting that wheel for 70 when it was NEW.... its a great peripheral for the system, works awesome with "Wipeout", too as for the stick, sorry to hear its broke, if you can find another one, give it a shot
  22. i think around 94 or something i remember seeing in an old issue of EGM (issue 69, i believe... it has earthworm jim 2 on the cover and a thing about doom 3 for the snes lol) that fx fighter was going to come out for the SNES (loooong before it came out for the PC). it had a screen shot, and i remember seeing an extremely short clip of the game in motion a few years back. so, does anyonehave anything on this game, like an actual prototype or something?
