Doom for the saturn... done
-
hi... i got a copy of snatcher for SCD that i'm looking to get rid of (trying to thin out the collection), and i wanted to know what people would be willing to pay for it. the game is in excellent condition with the manual. i recently moved my collection and realized that i have things that i dont even remember getting. as a result, im trying to get rid of stuff that i know i wont play and keep the good stuff.

prolly a couple games and systems... the whole story of that always saddens me.
back when my folks had money, we lived in a big house and had summer homes in NH and on Cape Cod (there, coincidentally, is where we had the 2600 and the 7800... the love affair begins
). Our main home had my original NES (From 1986), Model 1 Genesis (Altered Beast Pack-in), launch game boy, game gear, and SNES. Years later, we had to file for bankruptcy, and had to sell the houses. one of my aunts had about five garages in her back yard, three of which we could use. all of mine and my brother's games were moved into one of those garages.Flash forward about three or four years later...
my constant bitching and moaning to my parents to get that shit out of there FINALLY pays off... we go into the garages to start clearing out our stuff... a good portion of it is destroyed, including all my games, save for "Spider-Man" for the 2600, and "Rolling Thunder" for the NES. apparently, the roof to the garage that my games were in had a deteriorated roof, and the box it was in was pretty much exposed to the elements for all that time (including one of the wettest summers and snowiest winters in new england history). nothing but those two games were salvagable - all 200+ games for my 2600 and 7800 (ALL with manuals!
), 70 genesis games all boxed, my iron tank of a NES (God Rest Your Soul) with 120+ games, the 2600 with the hard plastic carry case, and the MINT 7800. I'm pretty sure i had a few rarities in there, but the one that stands out in my mind the most is "Crazy Climber." I kick myself in the ass everyday that i see one of those going off on eBay for a good amount of money. knowing what i do do now about cleaning and value and whatnot, i prolly could've saved a good 10-20% of them. i wouldn't have sold CC, but that would have been one of the centerpieces of my collection. So with all things, I pretty much had to start from scratch with the 2600 and the NES. luckily, the stuff that wasnt in the garage like the game gear, and the snes and the games moved with me, so if anything happened i would know to save them. still breaks my heart to think back on all those fucking games that i had, knowing that some of them were pretty valuable.
the last couple of years, ive been buying the games that i used to have pretty much from memory, so i could at least try to get a good portion of the games that i once had

I think I have a retarded system or something. It's a sixer, but not like any of the ones everyone else is putting up here.
The label says "Manufactured by Atari-Wong LTD, In Hong Kong
Model No. CX2600"
the serial # is 568438945.
A nine-digit serial... could it be a bootleg?

IMO, the console wars ended with the end of the 16-bit generation. I liked the whole "smear campaign"-type of advertising that the companies did to each other. Who else here remembers the "Genesis does/Nintendon't" campaign that Sega had in the early 90's? that shit was classic. companies don't do that anymore. I work in a video game store and I've come to notice one thing: consoles have pretty much become a status symbol.
Example: when the 360 first came out, people were buying whatever new crap-smeared-on-a-disc game that came out. Rockstar Table Tennis is a horrible game, but shitloads of people bought it to try to justify the money that they spent on the system. Those same people have long since gotten rid of their 360's in favor of the PS3, which has less games out for it now than the 360 had when it first launched. They want to be the "big boy" in the neighborhood and show off to everyone that they got the ridiculous amount of money to plunk down for the system. It's the equivalent of two men pulling out their penises to prove that they have the bigger one.
If I had that amount of money to buy new systems to show everyone how much better than them I was, I'd have my 2600 dipped in solid gold and hire a coked-up asian porn star named "Miko" to play it for me. It doesn't get any much more of a status symbol than that.

I remember, I came to the 2600 quite late (1997) so it's always interesting to hear the views of another player who isn't in it for the nostaligia.
...sounds kinda like me
Laser Blast FT-fuckin'-W -
yeah... they'll actually put out a *good* game... but probably not

I am beginning to feel my interest in actually playing classic games, 2600,INTV,CV,slip away, and this I am pretty not happy about.I am now beginning to get more into the nostalgia of it all,and reading old articles from the 80's about that period, guess it must be age, pretty crummy thing to say,I know, but i cant help the way i feel!,I hope its just a phase, and my interest will come back. But i STILL treasure my collection of games and consoles though!
How old are you? I ask because if you didn't grow up with an Atari, you're likely never going to really appreciate or enjoy the games as much as you do those of modern consoles. Me, I've been playing Atari since age 8 (well over two decades ago). The nostalgia factor isn't what keeps me playing it today; it's the fact I really enjoy playing Atari games, moreso than I do anything on my PS2, and likely will even when I'm 70 years old and this whole trendy "retro" phase has long died out.
I am old enough to have purchased pitfall when it first hit the shelves, and i dont think that just because you grew with something, necessarily means you'll never get tired or outgrow interest in it,people change, thats one reason why the divorce rate is so high.
I've been playing atari games since i was about 7 or 8... Being that I'm only 25, it really doesn't seem like that long a time compared to some other people on this site. I played atari games because i thought that they were fun. i liked the simplicity of games like Laser Blast - it's a hulluva lot better than some of the crap they have out now on the newer systems. i get more excited when they release compilation games (namco museum, atari anthology, etc.) then when they release something like halo 3.
as far as collecting, i made the decision a long time ago that i wasn't going to get too involved in it, because i know i wouldn't have the resources or means to get as heavy into it as i would really like. i'll go through spurts every now and then, but i don't think i'll get to the point where i'll throw up my hands and say "fuck it" and get rid of the whole 2600 collection

i picked up a complete copy of Kool-Aid Man not too long ago... Does that count for anything?

Vanguard and Missile Command were the shit... many many hours of my young life (I'm only 25
) were spent trying to beat my brother's then-ridiculously high scores.I think it's odd that in a post like this, there is absolutely no mention of space invaders. based on what the system can do, i think that was a pretty damn good port. not the best, by far, but very impressive for its time

Subterranea is ruining my life.
