    Just posted on Facebook:

"Hey Everyone! It’s clear, in its current state the RETRO VGS Indiegogo campaign is dead in the water and thusly will be shut down early. Once the Indiegogo team explains to us how we can do this, the plug will be pulled and all of you who have contributed will receive a refund post haste. Or you can go in and request a refund from Indiegogo right now.

The good news is we aren’t giving up and have made some adjustments to our hardware team, which includes the involvement of other hardware gurus who were part of our venture in the very beginning. We will also be lowering the price while maintaining most of the cool features you all want.
We will be back in the near future with a prototype RETRO VGS system, front-and-center playing our games on our cartridges and with our USB controller. Sit tight, be patient and RETRO VGS will return.
Thanks again for your support, patience and understanding while we regroup and prepare for the relaunch of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter."
I think this is the second chance that they need, and I look forward to them coming through on these promises of a working prototype, clear goals, etc.

    LOL

    Good riddance.

  2. Wow. Kevin ?!?!

First off, we were going to pay Kevin his asking price for the licensing of the cores and this was build into our funding goal ($10K/core) and had another $50K +/- in our funding budget to pay him for the 16 bit cores he has yet to develop. And these could have been shared with the community or whatever, not exclusive to us. And I could care less if Kevin used these cores to sell his board in addition to ours, he could have had both opportunities. We are selling two entirely different kinds of products. It really is amazing how everything gets turned around in these forums.

We are just three legitimate guys who want to bring a cool product to market. It's as simple as that. And set up it up as a real sustainable business that can continue to support the platform for a long time.

As of this post, I am going to chime out here as there is nothing that even remotely comes in the form of meaningful constructive criticism. And Kevin, I guess we will look elsewhere for our core development.

You're asking for money for a prototype - something you should have had to begin with. Why do you need so much money for a proof of concept? All you have is a controller. Congratulations.

Honestly, the best thing you ever did was purchase the Jag shells. You could have made a killing selling custom cases for that hardware. That could have funded your prototype.

Instead, you're now claiming that we're poisoning your project. AA brought you to the point you're at today with Gamegavel and such. So much for not shitting where you eat.

    Off you go.

EDIT: i hope people don't think I'm trying to be "OUTRAGEOUS" again... :lolblue: :lolblue: :lolblue:

  3.

Not necessarily. There will be people who haven't gone through the forum debate cycle (mostly here and NeoGaf I assume) and will get notice of the Indiegogo and perhaps not know to ask the critical questions. We all can't be informed about everything, so I can't say those people - who likely had their own good intentions much like the Retro console people themselves (no matter how botched to this point) - deserve anything negative. In any case, I think we can all agree that a simple prototype with final specs - even if it's not what the manufactured/refined version would be - would have headed off a lot of the vitriol and realistic concerns.

Instead of actually PRODUCING a working prototype, hes asked for money. If someone will still blindly give him money, knowing full well that the only tangible thing thats been produced has been empty shells and some 3D renders, then I have a fantastic bridge to sell them.

Hello Everyone! The time is finally now and we will be activating our Indiegogo Campaign tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9 AM Pacific Time.

Indiegogo had been courting us to use their service the past few months and have extended to us some accommodations that were very enticing. In addition, we have also had discussions with Kickstarter about their policy which requires hardware campaigns to show off explicit demonstrations of a prototype. We have since found a few running hardware campaigns on Kickstarter that show nothing of the sort and have questioned them about it, only to find you really don't need to show a working prototype, just to be clear and upfront with backers so they know exactly where you are in the development process. We asked if they would then reword their policy to reflect this and at this point they have not done so.

Since we didn't want to confuse anyone where we were in this process, we feel we just can't use Kickstarter while that policy is worded as such and thus have moved to the other very large crowdfunding company, Indiegogo.

There has been some confusion with how Indiegogo operates as they offer both a flexible and fixed funding option. We, of course, are using their "fixed" funding options which works just like Kickstarter, in that, we need to raise our minimum amount in order to fund the campaign. If that is not reached any of you who back this project get a refund right away for the amount you pledged. Here is a link on their website describing that process: https://support.indiegogo.com/hc/en-...526876-Refunds

In any event, we are ready to take RETRO VGS to that next level and put all of you on the front lines with weekly updates and videos as we enter the costly prototyping phase and eventually the production and shipping phase.

We hope to see you all on the other side! And thanks again for all your support and feedback.

    Sounds to me like:

"Its Kickstarter's fault, so we're moving to Indiegogo. We'll give you weekly updates about our inkjet PCBs. Don't forget to give us money!"

This is for Mike Kennedy/Parrothead (honor system, folks, for HIS EYES ONLY)

    LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  4. If this thing was ANYTHING worth while, Mike and company would have invested there own money to have at least a working prototype and some hello world code running on it from a "year" plus of this "hard work". If they are not willing to seriously invest in this console why the fuck should anyone else?

Why invest their own money when they can take it from everyone else?

Mike Kennedy/ Parrothead's silence here is VERY telling.

  5.

Can't you assume for a moment that $300 is the bare minimum a low production run console (i.e., production in the thousands rather than hundreds of thousands) with the targeted specs can be sold by them for? You can't reasonably expect them to sell it at cost (which as far as we know could be close to that figure once all is said and done), particularly since they're not a business with lots of other products to help subsidize production (which is the vast majority of other hardware makers).

Frankly, you're the one being completely unreasonable here (perhaps that was your point, though, to be "outrageous"?). The price is the price and if you or anyone else doesn't want to pay it, then the Retro VGS team failed to put forth a sufficient value proposition, which would be their only real failing. Otherwise, to complain about it because it's not the price that you personally wanted to pay (or perhaps can afford) is your failing.

Welp, you got me! Just trying to be OUTRAGEOUS again! Ol' Giltygear's got that stick up his ass! Who's jimmies is he trying to rustle today?????

Give me a break. This wouldn't have even been a blip on my radar until those pictures showed up and they cleared their FB page.

Where did they state $300 is the MSRP? It's a Kickstarter pledge, with the reward being a console. It's Kickstarter 101.

This project has nothing to do with ebay prices on old games, and frankly, neither do the "shelf queens." You are divorced from reality, because the REALITY is that games like Tecmo Bowl are not rare, but they are less and less likely to be dumped on ebay by people who are selling their childhood games like the old days. In reality, ebay listings are mostly made by people who buy and sell. They are often NOT collectors at all, and sell movies and toys alongside games. Furthermore what's wrong with buying a homebrew game (always a limited run) to both play, and perhaps later sell? It's not like the sellers take the money and run off to the Bahamas! They continue to BUY and SUPPORT future homebrew with the money.

Lastly, complaining about the exact day that the KS starts? Really, who cares? Gamester81 is a nice guy who makes excellent video reviews, and yet people shat on him for no good reason. I have serious concerns about the feasibility and longevity of this project, but your spouting off really doesn't answer any of those.

    Good day.

I come from a place of frustration - frustration that now I have to pay top-dollar for a game thats creeping up on 20 years old. Modern games (save for very few) are not fun. They're devoid of any sort of originality.

I love to shoot the shit about games, just like all of you. But within the last few years, these conversations turn into a game's "worth" or "value" and it makes me sick. Does this not frustrate anybody? That the thing that you derive enjoyment out of is being marketed for a premium price?

Then maybe I'm old. Maybe I'm seeing this through rose-colored glasses. I should just let the profiteers come in and take advantage of the marketplace. You all can find justification for their actions. I'll just keep calling BS because thats ALL im seeing.

  6. 500 @ $299 - Early Bird Black RVGS Only

$349 is our base price during the campaign plus choice of Legend or Jewel series colors. These are unlimited exclusives made for the campaign only.

Thats it? Thats all you have to say about this? $300 for a "base price"? Clearly, you're not doing this for any "community". Everyone's gotta eat, I guess, right?

    So much for "transparency."

Why? You enjoy seeing people fail? Doesn't that say more about you than anyone else?

This has become a thread of snide, negative douchebaggery. Why waste your time? If you don't think you're going to like the thing, why bother paying attention at all?

Because THIS is what this HOBBY has turned into - everyone wanting loads of money for a niche product because its part of the "trend." I don't take joy in watching people fail - I'm tired of all this bullshit "retro gamez are hot right now! big $$$ to be made!"

I enjoy classic games. i enjoy games that PLAY well. This is my taste in games. Now, that taste has become a commodity, like some fucking cash cow that everyone is taking pieces from. The term "retro" gets slapped on EVERTYTHING that doesnt use 3D models so all you hipster sheep can throw your disposable income at it.

It doesn't stop there. This is why the secondary market is so fucked. Collectards and shelfqueens buy everything up, hoard it, and call it an "investment". You know why common games are hard to find now? Blame the flippers, resellers, and "collectors" - they would rather put it on a shelf and beat off to it than see it go to someone who will actually ENJOY it and play it. Not time for playing games! There's money to be made! Last time I was in a brick and mortar store, these two douchbag collectards were arguing over how much profit game boy games would fetch in another year. They then proceeded to buy 2 large stacks of them (many of them multiple copies). When I asked how much a copy of Tecmo Super Bowl was for NES (because there was no price on it), the guy behind the counter proceeds to go to EBAY for a price, and quotes me $25. Tecmo Super Bowl is nowhere close to being worth that much. Its not "teh rarez", its a common as shit game, but because its for the NES (which is now along the lines of a boutique system apparently) that instantly drives the value up.

This "RGVS" is a complete joke. This mysterious KS that Parrothead keeps touting is supposed to start "around" the 14th? Whats next, "The KS will start when I mention it in passing to my wife around the 14th, but not after mid-october..." Really? All I've seen you do is ask for money. You've shown nothing more than a shitty empty case with an inkjet-printed PCB. Congratulations, you're doing a helluva job. Money well spent on those Jaguar molds. But I'm sure you'll recoup those losses by jacking the price of the system up, or making a "limited edition" version for twice what you were already raping your supporters for to begin with.

Oh, the "Gunlord" makers are making games for this? Out come the fucking vultures already. I'm sure the bloated costs of those cartridges will make up for the lack of invention and quality in their games.

I can't wait for sacks of shit like Gamester81 and Pat the NES Turd to make videos of this crap. Just another hunk of plastic put on a shelf behind them to show off on youtube. I'm sure that'll be some free advertising for ya, right Mike????

Fuck the shelfqueens. Fuck the collectards. Fuck all the sheep that buys into this crap looking to make money off of us.

And if you don't like what I say about it, then fuck you.

  7. What would you expect? It's not GOG's fault that Bethesda does not offer free GOG keys for owners of other versions.

GOG doesn't do this for any of the games that they sell that you may already own. i have a lot of the games that they offer for sale with legitimate CD keys, yet I would have to re-buy them to be able to use them in the client or put them in my library. No thank you.

  8. i normally play ps3 through rca. but the tv in my bedroom only has coaxial input, and i want to play ps3 on it. can i use a rf switch made for ps1/ps2 (i already have that)?

    :?

What year is this? How do you not have a TV with a composite input?

  9. I don't collect, as a matter of principle. I buy games I actually want to play, and for no other reason. I throw out boxes. Collecting games for their "worth", especially to flip them for ridiculous resale prices seems to me like some kind of exploitation of mentally ill people who lack self control.

That said, yeah I don't know which is worse, the snobby affluent collectors who buy up everything to brag about it on these forums and look down their nose at people with "inferior" collections - of the exact kind of detached, sarcastic exuberance for retrogaming from hipsters, who mockingly pretend to enjoy retro items in some kind of bizarre smug one upsmanship contest to see who can be more annoyingly outgoing and attention whoring when everyone is looking at their retro 80's cosplay crafted look.

Why can't it just be about the games?

    Because money.
